Guys,

I hate to sound like Gordy, but I just read the design article about the
Kinetic in this latest issue and have to say it is the best article I have
ever read in a model magazine. It is very well written, has great pictures
and tons of great history of how this plane came about. This is a must read
no matter what your level of interest is in this great hobby of ours.

See Ya,

We're pleased to announce the September 2008 issue of RC Soaring Digest is
now available for downloading from the RCSD web site
. The issue highlights are now available
at .

This issue has 34 pages and is 6.1 MB in size.

If you are using a dial-up connection and desire a smaller RCSD PDF,
consider downloading the highly compressed version of this issue (2.4 MB)
from the RCSoaringDigest Yahoo! Group Files section. The image quality is
reduced, but download time is significantly less. You must be a member of
the RCSoaringDigest Yahoo! Group to download these compressed PDFs.

If you're using a broad-band connection, you may want to download the
"original" high quality PDF of this issue (12.4 MB) from the RC Soaring
Digest web site .

In the interests of bandwidth and server usage, we ask that you download
only ONE version of each monthly issue from the RC Soaring Digest web
site. That is, download either the "normal" size issue from the main or
highlights page link, or download the "full size" version from
folder - not both.

Thanks for your continued readership!

  Jim,

Buy a cheap set of jumper cables and run the retriever with these
hooked to a 12 volt battery. I ran my Rham that way for several years. If
you
have two 12 volts hooked in parallel, just use one of them for the retriever.

Hello David,

I asked the same question and was told the company that did it two years ago
ripped a lot of people off by not returning their deposits, so they were not
recommending anyone anymore.

[RCSE] RE: 6 volt battery for retreiver

2008-08-20 Thread Robert P Buxton

NAPA #7244 815 CA 650 CCA

Jim I use the above battery for retrieving my winch line at the end
of the flying session. I have a Tim McCann winch and I find the 12
volt battery a bit daunting when reeling in the line when the day is
done. The 6 volt battery is perfect for this task and I must say
much safer. I think it might just fill the bill for what you want
the battery for. Back in the early 80"s I bought a winch from a
company in Idaho(I think) that had 3 solenoids and a 3 position foot
pedal which allowed for 6 volt, 9 volt and 12 volts depending on how
far you pushed the pedal down. It was perfect for different types of
planes and I still have it and always liked the idea of reeling in
the line at the end of the day at 6 volt speed. Maybe, someone on
the exchange will remember the name of this winch. I know there was
an ad in the National Soaring Society magazine back then.

Hope this will help, sorry for the rambling.

Best Regards,

Robert

Re: [RCSE] 6 V battery for retreiver

2008-08-20 Thread DUWorm
Go to an auto part store and ask for golf cart batteries. We ran Rahm
retrievers for years on these batteries. you also need a charger that will do
6
volts. The battery does not need to be very large. About half the size of
the 12 volt battery for the winch. The retriever is under much less load and
the smaller 6 v retriever battery would out last two batteries pulling the
winch.

Jim and Jim,
Another thing you can do to slow or speed up the retriever is change
the gearing ratio of the pulleys being used.
The one I built was just fine for speed, it's the same the TPG uses,
sized from the plans the designer sent me. Sal Peluseo.

Hello All from stormy east coast of florida, I am looking for a model
number and source for a 6 volt battery for our Rham retreiver. It
should have about 50 to 60 amp hours of capacity. This will be a
reasonable sized package - not too grunt heavy! Up to now I have been
using three Trojan T-105 for the winch and retreiver but they are old
and tired. Everyone else around here uses 12 volt winch batteries in
parallel for various reasons. Charging is one of them. So I might
follow suit but I need a smaller retreiver battery since I don't want to
lug a T105 if not required! 12 volts makes the retreiver run too fast.
The new fully automatic retreivers work very well but the club budget
will not stand that this year. Any ideas? Somebody has to make a
reasonable sized 6 volt battery larger than the 20 AH things for
motorcycles. Thanks, Jim
