[RCSE] Lithium Ion batteries

2006-10-19 Thread Chip Willis

FWIW,

I haven't seen many people discuss it, but I have been using Li-ion
batteries for a while. I flew the entire two day contest at the Fall
round up, on a single charge. I use Fromeco 2400 two cell batteries,
and I checked the voltage periodically and I had plenty to spare. I
could have flown for another two hours I estimate. Again, this is in
a 3 servo Ava so not too much draw there. I use a MPI 6v regulator to
step down the volts, and so far so good.

I am building a Supra now, and It is quite an investment, so i'm
thinking of running dual batteries in it. I was flying giant scale
and running dual rx batteries is almost standard over 30 percent
airplanes, and with the sizes available, redundancy kinda makes sense.

Anyone else doing this or thinking of it?

[RCSE] Fall Round Photos

2006-10-09 Thread Chip Willis
I put up the photos I shot on Saturday and Sunday atwww.chipwillis.com/fruCheck em out. I have some video of launches I will get edited later this week also. I want to thank all the guys at LOFT for a superb contest. Marc G., Steve S, and whomever else I might be missing. JR Radio for their support and sponsorship. This was my first contest in over a year and a half, due to some health issues and I must say, it was great to be welcomed back by so many people whom I have met before and by new friends. Going to contests isn't all about winning, or the competition itself. Going to contests is really about hanging with guys who love Soaring. Gals too! I had forgotten how much fun it is to sit back, and watch, talk and joke around with people who love the hobby. It is really cool to watch other people flying. When we are on the sticks, we know what we might do, but watching others is a whole new ballgame. Sometimes people do exactly as we would and others, they do things radically different. Seeing these approaches to common goals is great. I will write some more later, and post some of my zlogs from both days. The Zlog is an interesting thing, and it is great for re visualizing each flight I had. Some were just launch and boom, specked out, and others, the really memorable ones, were where you can see, "I need Two minute Air! Bad", and then actually find it and make time. It was a great weekend! The only thing that would have made it better, was a few puffy Cu's.Chip Willis

[RCSE] F3J stuff....

I just got some 150lb mono line in from Memphis Twine, thanks for the
referral guys on RCG.

Anyhow, I need to fashion some sort of handle for both 1 and 2 man
tows. Any ideas?

I figure it will have to be made from common materials, but right now
i'm at a loss as to what to use.

Thanks in advance.

I've read it all before...

A guy looks at the LSF task set and they seem daunting so he figures he
will redesign them.

Instead of actually joining LSF and figuring what its all about its much
easier to attack it from the computer on the forums, e-lists, or where ever
it may get attention. Not face to face.

Go after the topic many find daunting, contesting.

Discover through the debate that this takes many people to pull a new
organization off so maybe the LSF could help them out? Right, you started
out against us.

The thing I find strange is that level based system is sort of contest in
itself, you obtain levels so you can compare your skill set to others. Yet
some folks just don't want to do that face to face.

When will some people realize almost all the hobbies you will entertain
yourself with are about the people, not the toy. It's about going out and
having fun with friends, it's simple as that.

Are you serious?

All of the loss of life and property and we

I challenge everyone to send money to www.redcross.org

This is not to say that helping a fellow modeler

Thanks for the Rant.

I'll be sending him my Organic, ready to
fly, but likely he'll need a RX andTX.

I won two JR 368's for High Point Champ
at MidAm this past weekend in Lexington Kentucky (Thanks Paul for providing the opportunity for me to
brag about that once more! :)

So I'll be installing them in the
Organic, but he'll need a TX and RX, a new 9303 would work I think pretty well.

I'll bet you that one of the OVSS Series
High Point Champs who would normally get a JR9303 would be just as happy to get
a Thankyou from JR for pre donating theirs to Paul.

Just a thought, what do you think Marc
Gellart and John Diniz?

Well guys, I was looking forward to this contest, but my eyes had other
ideas. If you didn't know, I have had two surgeries on my left eye over the
past months. All should be well, but I won't be able to fly perhaps any this
season. Guess there will be next year.

Have fun everyone.
