[RCSE] 60 F3J contest at Dayton Sunday

2008-05-28 Thread Ed Franz
Hello all,

This Sunday I am holding a 60 F3J contest at Dayton Ohio. All flights will
be off of mini Hi-Starts, so it's time to bring out that old javelin H/L to
fly again! The contest will be in an F3J rules type MoM format. So dust off
that old H/L, put a hook on it and come join the fun. The contest will start
around 11, I will be there around 9 so that you can trim out your plane on
the Hi-Starts.

[RCSE] 60 F3J contest

2008-03-29 Thread Ed Franz
Hi Guys and Gals,

Come join us at Dayton, OH June 1st at the DARTS field for a 60 F3J contest
to be flown off of Mini hi-starts. Time to drag out all those old javelin
H/L's out of the basement and fly them again! I know you have a old Monarch,
Logic, or other planes you don't fly anymore. Come join the fun. If you
don't have a old javelin plane , tape a hook to your DLG.

The contest will be flown F3J style rules with varying fight windows. yes,
that means you can relaunch in your round. You can PM or e-mail me for rules
and such if you are not sure what F3J rules are.

Come join the fun June 1st!

I need someadvice from the

I am installing the ballast tube in my Graphite and

Thanks,

[RCSE] 2003 Nats web pages

2003-01-28 Thread Ed Franz
To All,

The 2003 Nats Registration Status page and Frequency Allocation pages are
now up at the LSF web site at:

http://www.silentflight.org/NATS2003/Register.html
http://www.silentflight.org/NATS2003/FreqAlloc.html

You can see there what channels are open, some are almost full and some are
already closed. It would be wise to get your Nats entry forms in to insure
that you get in on the channel that you want. The first batch of conformation
letters have just gone out, you can also see what channel you are on by
looking at the registration page.

I will be updating these web pages every two weeks or so. Many thanks to
Jack Strother for giving me the space to post these on the LSF site.

[RCSE] Hi-start H/L F3J

2002-12-09 Thread Ed Franz
I been thinking about this for awhile and have decided to run this format as
a contest this year in the Cincinnati/Dayton area.

I plan to run a hi-start H/L F3J contest. The rules will be pretty much the
same as in full size F3J except for the fact that we will use H/L's (1.5
meter) on a short hi-start and the landing task will be a little different.
My plan for landing is to have a 25 point, 25 foot in or out landing circle
with a kicker. The kicker is that you can stand inside the circle and catch
your plane if you like. This takes away the advantage of an aileron or
flapped H/L in the landing circle.

It will be run MoM just like a normal H/L of F3J contest, most likely seeded
MoM like most of the contests here in the mid-west. Task times will start at
5 minutes and go from there, maybe all the way up to 10 minutes like the
full size version.

This is a great way to get into F3J on a low budget. Everyone has a old
javelin launch plane they can throw a tow hook on. So dig out that old
Monarch, Logic,
Spectre, Little Bird, or other old H/L that is gathering dust in the shop.
You could even throw a hook on your new DLG if you wanted. This opens up a
new life for your old planes, and there are many ARF's out there that would
be great in this contest.

Well, what do you think? I think it will be a blast! E-mail me if you are
interested and I will keep you updated on dates and such.

[RCSE] Stylus problem part 2

2002-09-29 Thread Ed Franz

A while back I posted about my Stylus having
problems centering. Well, I talked to Airtronics and they knew about the
problem. It seems when the lithium battery in the transmitter starts to go bad
the lack of centering is one of the signs. I sent in my radio and today was the
first time I have used it sense I got it back. What a difference! I had no
centering problems at all the whole day. So if your Stylus starts to act funny
it is probably time to send it back for the replacement of the lithium battery
in the transmitter. I put a small piece of tape with the date I had the battery
changed under the module to remind me when I had it done. Airtronics says every
three years or so.

The only servo I have had fail was a Hitec HS 55, cost me a DLG. Two or
three other guys around here had them fail about the same time. Maybe
just a bad batch.

[RCSE] Bird of Time

2001-05-31 Thread Ed Franz

Guys,

All this talk of the Bird of Time reminded me the a few years back in
Flying Models (I think), Dave Thornburg did a review of the Dynaflite
BoT kit. If I remember right he was not overwhelmed by the quality of
the kit, and gave a few recommendations on how to improve it. If anyone
is interested I could take a look and fine out what issue it was in.

[RCSE] SideWinder DLG

2001-04-14 Thread Ed Franz

I flew my SideWinder DLG from Pole Cat Aeroplane Works this morning for
the first time. All I can say is WOW, this discus launch stuff is cool!
By my third launch I was getting massive launch height. The difference
between javelin launching and discus launching is the difference between
launching a Gentle Lady or a molded plane on the winch.

The plane flies great, very easy to fly. Real nice glass work on the
fuse and wing, good price too. Best part is, after a morning of flying
I'm not sore at all. More than I could say after a morning of javelin
launching. Just too cool.

Re: [RCSE] transmitter crystal changing

2001-01-16 Thread Ed Franz

Am I wrong, or did this Horizon tech just say it was OK to change
crystals in a transmitter module?

 Karl JeriLynn wrote:

I have a JR 8103 transmitter and am currently on channel 17. I want to
get channel 22 crystals.
Do I just need the crystal or. do I need to get another module
which is tuned with a 22 crystal in it?

When in doubt, ask the experts ... as I did (see below).

Andrew,
Thank You for your question. You do not have to send your transmitter or

receiver in to have them tuned. With the ABCW circuitry, it allows us
to
center tune the equipment to a specific channel. You can in theory go
from
channel 15 to 59 and not have a problem. I recommend no more 20 channels

above or 20 channels below the original channel, and then range check
the
transmitter with the engine running and the engine off. If everything is
ok
after that then you should be set to go. If you have any further
questions
please call us toll free at 877-504-0233.
Thank You,
Horizon Product Support Team
