[RCSE] RE: Vulcan

2008-06-15 Thread Gregory A Stewart
Mark,

If that's the 2 meter, V-tailed Vulcan, I have a partially-completed kit and
the instructions. Confirm that we are talking about the same glider and I'll
dig them up and scan them to you.

Looking for plans or drawings and any other information on the Sleger
Vulcan. Purchased partially built kit at auction and would like reference
information to aid in completing the build.

No luck with internet search.

mark

[RCSE] Old DJ Aero Monarch 2M...

2006-07-10 Thread Gregory A Stewart
Talk about blast from the past... I've had one of these kits haunting my
basement for years and I thought I've finally apply enough sandpaper, epoxy,
and servos to it to make it fly.

This is the original with the funky wingtips made of an upper and lower
fiberglass molding that are joined poorly. I intend to use them as models
and carve a replacement set out of balsa, then glass them.

Besides that, any other cautions or suggestions?

Anyone have a spare set of those wingtips that are reasonably constructed
that they want to get rid of?

Re: [RCSE] Old DJ Aero Monarch 2M...

2006-07-10 Thread Gregory A Stewart
Bill,

That story makes me even more eager to get it going. I hate to admit it, but
it will be my 1st 4 servo wing and my 1st few winch launches with it will
put me over my 1st 10 winch launches! I'm a competent pilot with fast
aerobatic, 3D, DLG's, park fliers, pylon racers, rocket boosted gliders,
helis, electric duration gliders, various slopers, etc, but I've never flown
medium to larger gliders... Should be fun.

I got the wing servos and horns mounted yesterday and got the transmitter
programmed up. Tonight was mounting the wing and tail. Tomorrow's the tail
servos/linkages and towhook. I'm trying to get it flying to go push it
around in a local contest this weekend... I won't do well, but I'll learn
bunches!

Hey I had one of those! I love that thin, low aspect ratio wing with those
huge flaps.
SNIP
I looked for the rest of that day, and most of the next. A farmer found it
a year later. Bummer. I liked that thin, low aspect ratio wing and those
nice big flaps. I don't suppose anyone has one in a box just sorta lying
about

[RCSE] Wanted: Hotliner/Sloper Wing

2001-11-11 Thread Gregory A. Stewart

I had a shop accident with an NSP Sparrow Composite wing that I'd gotten to
use for a hotliner. I'm looking for a replacement... need a roughly 60
span,
7 root chord hotliner/sloper wing with an RG-15/RG-14 or similar airfoil.

Please respond to me at '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'.

I'll be bringing a few electrics/slopers/micro helis. Where to fly, what
to do, any events to visit?

TIA!

[RCSE] NSP Omega as DLHGL?

2001-05-26 Thread Gregory A. Stewart

Has anyone considered converting one of the NSP Omega's to
DL?

I picked up one of these last summer later in the season and
didn't get around to putting it together then. Now, DL is the
rage and I have one very obsolete HLG.

Reading some of what others have said and looking at it, I
have hope. I think that the original v-tail may work ok as it
is an aileron ship, but more likely I'll need to shorten the
fuselage slightly and put on a regular rudder/stab combo.

As for the wing, I think the composite LE/TE may be sufficiently
strong... this is why I'm thinking this way at all. I'd expect
I'd want to glue together the center section (instead of just
bolting it onto the fuse) and add some sheet-fill reinforcement
around the throwing peg area, perhaps filling in 2-3 tip bays
with light balsa, along with a kevlar patch top and bottom.

Thoughts?

TIA!

[RCSE] RE: Gentle Lady

2000-12-01 Thread Gregory A. Stewart

Steve,

The GL will require some noseweight over a minimum RC setup. I strongly
recommend you leave the nose the stock length and add weight as needed to
get the recommended balance point. The noseweight is not a problem for
performance... the reduced damping and increased tendency to oscillate in
pitch that you'll get from lengthening the nose will reduce flyability.

To minimize the amount of noseweight needed, install the servos as far
forward as you can, extending the pushrods as needed. Put the receiver
just ahead of the servos with just enough room for the battery ahead of
it. Then increase the capacity of the battery using 1400 MaH to 2400 MaH
cells... this will add weight where you need it, but it will be useful
weight rather than dead weight. Remember these cells will take a LOT
longer to charge with the stock system charger... 2-4 times longer.

If you do these things, the amount of noseweight you'll need to add will
be minimized and the overall weight gain will also be minimized because
you'll be putting the mass of your RC system where it helps the plane
to balance.

I am building my first Gentle Lady and I was wondering how they balance out
on the average. I do not want to have to add nose weight later when I could
extend to nose now if needed.

Thanks for you help!

Not quite. It won't do single stick. Guess I will have to go back to RES
only when my single stick Micropro finally quits so I can use my 1971
Proline single stick. Now if my vision was as good as it used to be, I
could work on printed circuit boards and install modern electronics in one
of my old Proline transmitters. Haven't built a transmitter, receiver, or
servo in almost 20 years but I might have to try.

Sorry Jim, I didn't make it to the nats (at least, not the U.S. Nats), so
you'll have to ask about as to who had the electric that so impressed you,
as you didn't recall the name right.

However, you'll be happy to know that though you didn't meet me at the
nats, you still DID get the "really nice guy" part correct!
