2008-05-11 Thread Jeff Carr
My son and I were both involved in the record attempt too. It was very well
organized and very fun. Even if it only lasted a few minutes. I was on 50
mhz and no glitches at all. I used an old Berg. Makes me feel good knowing
it operated flawlessly in this noisy enviroment.

While flying and looking down both sides of the field it was quite the site
seeing all the planes in the air. It was a site to see

2008-02-24 Thread Jeff Carr
I did the review on RCGroups for the Aerosport. It is a fast build and a
fun flyer. I have let everyone and I mean everyone fly this bird. It has a
little screamer motor and just is a ball to fly. Its easy to repair. Just
keep a few sheets of Depron around and all the pieces when they become
pieces to make new parts. I have replaced the front 4 times. Remember I
let everyone fly it. Scott Detray is from Toledo and a good guy that has a
small hobby business. So Gordy there ya go. Give it a whirl.

[RCSE] Tsunami Tip

2006-07-08 Thread Jeff Carr

I am in need of a Tsunami left wing tip. I broke the joiner box on
this tip. I have a yellow red tip but Im not picky.

At the Midsouth I was on my second flight of the day. Got up to the
winch turned on wiggled everything. Put in the Launch Preset hooked
up. When I threw the plane all I had was elevator and rudder. No
flaps or Ailerons. Well to make it just a little worse since I was on
launch all the servos went to neg reflex. I got off the line but it
kept nosing over. I pushed it inverted and few a few curcuits around
down wind. I could only establish a medium bank because the servos on
the wing were not uniform. It hit pretty hard on the left tip. It
Cracked the carbon joiner rod. As I was taking it apart I discovered
the connector on the bottom of the wing was cocked off at about a 45
degree angle. It must have been loose in there and when I threw the
plane it must have moved just enough to break contact.

So now ya know why I need the tip. I have an e-mail into Bob at
USASoaring and just waiting out a answer.

Let me know

Re: [RCSE] JR 770 receiver problems...

2006-05-22 Thread Jeff Carr

Les

Did you by chance try on a different model setting. If you have
transfered any of the data from 1 xmitter to another it may have
corrupted the data. I have heard of this happening before. Its odd
they just quit working as they are a very good receiver. I would just
try another model setup and be sure its in the SPCM mode

Jeff

On 5/22/06, -Les [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Anyone else having problems with the JR770 receivers?

My story quickly ... installed one into a two meter (nice match) and flew 2
weekends w/out incident. 3rd weekend went out to 'fire up' the glider ...
nothing! Not even a twitch! Checked battery power ... fine. Checked
transmitter against a different plane ... fine. Checked frequency and
swapped out to a different frequency ... no change.

Brought the plane home, pulled the receiver and tried to get it to work on
the bench. Nothing. Ok, at this point I figured well, one went bad so I
grabbed a NEW one that came with my 9303. Bench checked it ...
nothing! Pulled a JR 549 receiver out and bench checked it...works
fine. Installed in 2 meter ... works fine. Even went flying yesterday
that was. But ... these two JR770's ... they're just dead!

Obvious questions answers:

#1 any crash damage? No. I know at least 1 of them worked, as I flew
it. The other was never installed. Not damage by crashing.
#2 Magic Smoke? No. I mean, the first one was installed and working. The
second never had a chance.
#3 Sure you in PCM mode? Yes ... and I tried both modes just to make sure,
but yes, it was in PCM mode.

I have 1 left besides the two dead ones. It works ... but I'm scared to
install it in anything for fear that it might *stop* working.

So, anyone have any strange failures of their 770's? And if so, where did
you send them for repair?

On 4/3/06, Ron Scharck [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
On behalf of the Torrey Pines Gulls and our co-host, Airtronics, I am very
pleased to announce that the International in IHLGF is alive and well
again this year. With strong commitments from New Zealand and Japan, each
with four pilots registering, we are off to a great start for another
outstanding year of representation of international pilots at the IHLGF.

Introduced by the Japanese team manager, Yoichi Kajiro, as the very top
pilot in F3K in Japan, Mr. Asazuma, at age 28, appears to be the next
Buzz Tokunaga. For those of you who don't remember, Buzz was the Japanese
version of...well, now, Phil Barnes, but then Joe Wurts. Buzz was not only a
great pilot, finishing in the top 10 in both of his appearances here, but
also as one of the all-time IHLGF favorites among those with whom he
competed. We truly look forward to Mr. Asazuma adding some stiff competition
to the already pretty good group of IHLGF Top Ten regulars.

Team Kiwi will be returning under the management of Mr. Chris Tank. Chris
and his band of very talented, very friendly (and only occasionally rowdy)
pilots from New Zealand are always very competitive and great fun. With each
year this team gets better and better. We are always happy to hear that they
 are invading Poway.

I would love to hear from any other International pilots that may be
thinking of attending the IHLGF 2006. If you think you might be interested
in attending a great contest, competing against some of the best pilots in
the world and having a great time doing so, I invite you contact me or just
go to the IHLGF 2006 website www.torreypinesgulls.org, and click on the
IHLGF 2006 banner. The entry form, tasks, rules and other information
regarding the event, including local motels, may be found there. We really
appreciate our international pilots and do everything we can to make their
participation in the IHLGF event as pleasant and easy as possible.

If you are considering entering the IHLGF 2006, there are three requirements
that we always advise our international pilots about: 1.) You must be a
member of your national aero club; 2.) You must be a member of the Academy
of Model Aeronautics (AMA); and 3.) You must fly on the 72 MHz radio
frequencies (72.01 - 72.99, also referred to as Channels 11-60).

The AMA membership that applies to international pilots is the
Affiliate-Non US Citizen membership. For your convenience, we will have
this form at the event and you may complete and pay for it at that time. The
cost is $28 US. PLEASE NOTE: You must be a current member of your national
aero club to qualify for this membership.

Regarding the 72 MHz radio frequencies, if you currently own any 72 MHz
frequencies, please let me know what they are. If not, then I will be happy
to suggest the channels to buy. I will work with you to make sure that you
 have the proper frequency assignments.

I have mentioned team a couple of times. Please note that you are NOT
REQUIRED to have a team to enter the IHLGF.

We hope that you choose to compete in the IHLGF 2006. Please feel free to
contact me at anytime for assistance or to answer any questions you may
 have.

[RCSE] Covers

2006-03-09 Thread Jeff Carr
Hi Guys

I am in need of 2 flap covers for the top of the wing on a Tsunami. I
was changing the servos over to DS-368 and was using the heat gun to
release the servo rails and they deformed. There not real sturdy. So
I am looking for some. Can anyone help. These are the small covers
on the top side of the Tsunami's center section. Yellow is the color
but Im not picky

[RCSE] Re: Model Aviation

2006-03-02 Thread Jeff Carr
I think we would get more coverage if someone would just learn how to
hover a DLG with a nuclear powered Battery pack powering a micro
processor that would use brain power to transmit what you wanted. 8-)

I think the 2 guys doing the column now do a great job. I wish they
could both be in the Mag at the same time. Lets face it though. If
they ask for help who would step up to the plate. I covered F3J as
much as I could on the RCGroups site. I thought everyone would want
to know what was happening. I just wait on pins and needles for event
coverage. Gordy is pretty fast on this. Jim Bacus another. We are a
quiet bunch. Write AMA. Ill be in Toledo during the show and plan on
asking why or how do we get more coverage. We have a great bunch of
guys some recognition would be good.

OK now practice your 3D

The spelling is bad as I posted them late in the evening.

It was a well organized and run contest.

[RCSE] bad chatter problem fulll scale

2005-08-10 Thread Jeff Carr
I have to ask why someone would deploy SAlots and Flaps above 2'.
I have yet to fly a plane that will let you. Spoilers and speed
brakes have no Altitude limit and on some planes the speed brakes are
only used in an Emergency decent.

My guess is that the pilot did use the spoilers and it will rumble.
Its noisy too at High altitudes
