[RCSE] source for black poplar veneer
Greetings Is there any good source for comparison of black poplar veneer compared with other hardwood veneers. I notice that many of the sailplanes I'm seeing with wood veneer wings that are relatively low weight are using black poplar. What is the thickness of these veneers. How does obechee compare to black poplar. How does black poplar compare to other poplar wood veneers. Anyone with experience with this type of wing construction? [RCSE] Repair technique on openclass foam/cf wing
Yesterday I was out for the first time this year. Almost my last flight of the evening I was launching. At the top, I was gaining speed for a nice zoom when bang / wap ! Whats this? . . . My left wing looks like I have a oversized poly bend in it the way my oly 650 looks, only this is a 80/20 cf over foam wing, straight wing. A Friend is yelling lookout! thinking I'm going to be spiraling in at big speed. My plane takes a leap left and then its flying. I guess I lucked out because I had all my controls left. The broken wing went back to a slight poly bend in it & I had all my controls including flaps. I flew it into the wind a while until I was low enough & then kicked in the flaps for a landing. I was lucky. The thing looked like it should have had another poly bend in the other wing. The damage was to 1 wing. I have complete a split on the top of the wing and about 6 -8 inches of delamination on the top side. It looks like the bottom side is ok. The foam on the top side is scrunched a bit. What would be the best way to repair this. I've got 80/20 cf, 3 oz fg, 2 oz fg on down to .75 oz cloth and mylar and vaccuuming stuff. Just looking for ideas on fixing this before I dive in. Thanks for any help. . . Jon _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Reversing Hitec Servo
For those like me that do not know electronics, It would be far simpler to buy a servo reverser. [RCSE] RDS Retrofit questions
Hello Harley, Looks like I had problems with the original post Hotmail has this new richtext format option that must have some bugs in it. Here is the original post. I will cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jon == Greetings . . I am going to be retrofiting my open class ship with RDS. I've read the material Harley M. has on RDS on retrofitting for RDS. I've got some ideas but thought I'd see if anyone else had something to that this as this is my first time at this. The wing I'm working on now is a carbon fiber wing. I've removed the servos and cut the carbonfiber skin back about 1/4" or more in a square around the hole for the servo and then filled the hole with scrap foam. What do you use to fill the slots around the foam that fit it in? just fill it with spackling and sand? I'm then going to lay down a square of cf cloth to fit the square I removed, and then overlap out about 1/2" more with 2 oz fg with an even bigger square of mylar so it is smoothed out. Then I'l tape this in place and put it in a bag with breather over the area. I just wanted to run this by the soaring exchange because it seemed too simple. I've gone through Harley's RDS pages and think I understand most parts of it. I mostly wanted ideas on fixing the old servo holes before cutting new ones. [RCSE] kevlar hinges on carbon wings - aftermarket
Hello, I've been thinking about whether it would be a worthwile effort to put kevlar hinges on a set of wings I've got. Is it possible to put kevlar hinges on a typical set of wings that have already been manufactured and cut out and taped for regular tape hinges. Just wondering if anyone has done this before? I'm thinking the hing would be better than a typical tape hinge but not sure if I wanted to go to the work of doing it. Jon _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. [RCSE] hs85 MG - slop
I have a single HS85 MG servo on a flap that has a lot of slop in it. What is the typical way to fix this? Is there a way to repair it or do I need to replace the gears on it. Re: [RCSE] RV: JR 347 For a full house sailplane..
Fernando, You should be able to do about everything you want to do. I've had guys tell me they didn't like it, but when I checked out some articles on this radio, It would do everything you can imagine. Like; Crow,Flaps with elevator compensation. elevator to flaps programed to take effect when a switch is turned on. full trailing edge camber and reflex, launch flaps programmed to a switch. and of course all the regular stuff like subtrim, trailing edge endpoints, ail diff, eil to rudder and turn the mix off with a switch. I'm sure I'm missing stuff. I,ve never programmed crow however but Sherman Knights article says you can. I'm sure the newer radios are easier to program however but I've no experience to say. FYI - Jon Syvertson For more details here is Sherman L Knights article. This should tell you most things about the radio you would want. http://www.nesail.com/progjr347.html >From: "Fernando Magnetti" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: "RCSE" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: [RCSE] RV: JR 347 For a full house sailplane.. >Date: Mon, 29 May 2000 19:28:50 -0300 > > >- Original Message - >From: Fernando Magnetti <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: RCSE <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Sent: Sunday, May 28, 2000 11:30 PM >Subject: JR 347 For a full house sailplane.. > > > > I have a chance to get a JR 347 but i want it to fly a full house >sailplane > > (six servos, batterfly, etc) > > something like an F3B. > > Its Ok this radio for this? > > It have all the mixes that I need? > > > > Fernando Magnetti > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > > >RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Just curious. . scratch-builder headcount
Hello Harley, Count me in as a scratch builder. However I do not claim to be a designer, I've built a couple of originals of my own in the hlg size using composites. I've built the midget that was published in rcm, it was a bit sluggish with std radio equipment however. Also basically did some kit bash of a saggitta 900 as a composite ship with the help of another builder. You know my current project because it is your design, the Genie. I've only been at it a couple of years now after being out of it for about 10 now. >From the land of Pigs and Corn . .
