Re: [RCSE] Virus Alert---HOAX

2001-12-17 Thread Kjell A. Fjelde

it has something to do with converting long filenames and so on.

Check out http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/hoaxes/hoax5.asp?HName=SULFNBK+Hoax
for the full story.
In my many years of being on the net, I have never actually seen a true
virus alert that says you have to do this and that. Always check it you
recieve mails that look suspicious. And yes, virus alerts are suspicious.

DO NOT DO THIS. THIS EMAIL IS A HOAX.
The SULFNBK.EXE is a file that is used by windows and should not be
deleted.

If you searched for it, you all found it. Beacause it´s a windows file and
 not a virus.

I am so sorry to be sending you this alert. Unfortunately, I have
been
  the
unknowing recipient of an email with a computer virus. Thankfully,
the
person who detected the virus is alerting everyone in her address
list
  and
recommends I do the same. I used the following directions to remove
 the
infected file from my computer pretty easily.

   Instructions:
This virus supposedly is programmed to activate after being on your
C
   drive
for a while. Because of the delay in activation, it does not get
 picked
  up
by the antivirus programs such as McAfee and Norton. No one knows how
  long
this virus has been on the system. It is possible that it has been
  around
for several months. When it does become active, it will erase all
files
  and
folders on your hard drive. The virus gets spread when you send out
   e-mails
and filters into C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.nbs=; In order to find this
virus,
   follow the instructions below:
   Click on start
   Choose find
   Choose files and folders
   Select find
   Select C drive
Name of file to search for: SULFNBK.EXE

If you find this file, DO NOT OPEN IT! Select by right clicking on
 your
mouse and DELETE it. Then close the window and empty your RECYCLE
BIN.
  The
good news is that YOU HAVE ELIMINATED THE VIRUS ON YOUR COMPUTER.
The
  bad
news is that you have transmitted this virus to anyone you may have
 sent
e-mails to in the last month. Thus the reason for this message. I'm
  truly
sorry! Please contact everyone in your address book and pass this
  message
   along.

I second that.
I have had my hotmail for as long as I can remember.
It´s been with me thru at least 3-4 different ISP´s.

And with outlook express one can synch the program with the hotmail account.
So you get both the regular mail and the hotmail downloaded into OE. And
when not at home the hotmail is always available thru the www.

I had to do the same a while back. Get a hotmail account, that way
you'll have an email address that won't change if you change ISP's
again later on. (I us both hotmail and ISP mail account).

Don't bash your instincts, you're suppose to grab the handle silly. You
were
just to fixated on the blade.

I'll tell you about dumb instincts and what not to do: when an xacto falls
in between your legs, don't smash your thighs together, spread 'em!

Rick

I had just installed a new blade in my X-acto #2 holder. After a
few
cuts I sat it on the bench, and it began to roll. The first thing
that went throught my mind was, oh no, it will hit the hard floor
and break the tip of the new blade, as I instinctively reached out
to catch it. Instincts aren't always smart.

Ouch! A _very_ deep gash in my finger

Subject: [RCSE] Landings: "a complete waste of time"?

I think the landing is the hardest part! As in full scale soaring, the
landing aproach is a precision manuver. It's very critical! There is a
big penalty paid if you mess up!!
In soaring contests there are several cases where everyone will stay up!
The lift is everywhere... The precision landing aren't nessesarily DORK
landings. They are what you make them.. If your speed and pattern are
correct. It will be a nice low energy landing. I think the DORK landings
are a result of inproper speed. Going to fast makes a pilot drive it in
to hard. They have no choice, if they want landing points.. I try never
to have to drive a model in hard. Besides, the rules for unlimited are
very stricked. You can't loose a part on landing. You can't flip over!
In F3J european event!!! They are allowed to drive them in and destroy
them if they want.. As long as the nose cone stays on the tape, they are
ok!!
I think that makeing a low energy landing is a very hard thing to do
everytime with conditions the we deal with.. The models will take a
slightly hard DORK. But I have seen very hard DORKS.. There is no reason
for that... Well? Except for Visalia. Where they set up for down wind
landings.. Very different comared to what we are use to. But never the
less a challenge. And everyone is on the same page.
I think it is much better to master the landings than to change the
rules... There are many people who would like to see skeggs go away to..
If they do?? Fine!! I will learn to land with out skeggs...

Re: [RCSE] Constant trim drift with new radio set

2000-03-30 Thread Kjell-Arne Fjelde

Im having this excact problem with my HS85MG servos. Great servos for the
buck, but theire accuracy is "what you pay for".

The best way to reduce the problem is to make the linkages so that you use
the hole (or at least as much as possible) of the servo travel to get youre
preferred throw. This makes the problem smaller, but I have to adjust the
center pos on mine each time I go flying.

Kjelli

What brand servos are you using? A lot of us
here in NZ are having this exact problem. I'm
pretty sure it's not the Rx as some use Futaba,
some JR, some PCM, some FM. The one thing in
common is that all the servos have blue cases...

I have 4 hitec HS85MG servos in the wings, and two hitec HS85BB servos
in the fuse to drive the V-tail via dubro cables.

Any chance that your flaps have some slop in the linkages? I am assuming
that they are gap sealed with tape? On launch its quite possible that
your
servos do no thave sufficient torque to maintain the flap as you set it.

This kit (Sierra 2.5) uses the hitec universal housings, (short round
cylinders that insert into cylindrical wing cavities)...the linkage on
the wings is very short (about 3 inches)... and there's no slop...
HS85MG's are supposed to be reasonably strong...

Re: [RCSE] Constant trim drift with new radio set

2000-03-30 Thread Kjell-Arne Fjelde

Then maybe you got a good "batch" of them.
In our club we have around 50 of these servos (as I know of), some got the
problem, some don´t. We have just accepted this for a fact with these
servos. And use them for smaller planes and 1,5m slopeplanes. Use the whole
servotravel and the problem is minimal.
Put som Zap in those linkages to remove slop.

Most of us in our club have the same TXs and RXs.
Fact is, cheap servos are cheap for a reason.

I have to disagree, I have no less than 12 Hs-85s in service (about half
metal gear) for about a year and a half withou ever having this trouble. I
fly them in everything from electrics to Scale to TD ships without any
problems.

RE: R: [RCSE] 4 vs 5 cell battery

2000-03-30 Thread Kjell-Arne Fjelde

This is really taking off. Everything from voltage regulators to discharge
5% of the pack before flying.

Is it just me or does all this sounds silly?
The original question was about a Futaba RX who acted crazy with a 5 cell
pack. And it has been established that some RX´s can´t handle the 7.5 V a
fully charged pack gives.

If you want to use a 5cell pack in youre plane you cant use a RX who is not
designed to operate on a 5 cell. Simple and easy. Forget voltage regulators
and discharging some of the pack´s capacity.

Take the RX and put it in a plane who uses a 4 cell pack.
As for the plane with the 5 cell pack, use another RX who is designed for a
5 Cell pack. There are many.

Of course this is only my humble opinion :)

[RCSE] Re: [RCSE][F3B][F3F] Ellipse 3 CAM radio problem

1999-10-21 Thread Kjell-Arne Fjelde

Brass when in contact with other metals and/or brass, will NOT make any
radio interference. Thats why they use brass and not steel or aluminum in RC
equip..
Isn´t this right? Meant I´ve read this somewhere sometime.
As long as brass is always in contact the radio interference will be
minimal. Look at the new Hitec servos with aluminum gear inside, the
aluminum gear is newer in contact with anything else but brass. And there is
only one gearwheel that is nmade of aluminum (if I recall correct).

I was just thinking, one thing it might be is metal to metal contact.
The 3cam's come with brass aileron and flap horns, and then with the
metal clevis's. As a matter of normal course, I will always use a
good plastic clevis with any metal control horn and visa versa, I
will always use a metal clevis with a G10 or wood horns.

This would also explain why a PCM receiver would work. Using one
would also cure this.

The only other explanation I could think of, is once I had a 6 servo
plane where it had a bad pot in one of the 141'. Moving this one servo
would make the others jump.

[RCSE] Range on RX

Hi All!!

As always if I have a question i go to the RCFS. I would like to thank you
all for the great replyes I have gotten on many of my questions on this
list.

I was wondering, what sort of range can one expect on the RX. I assume the
TX is in "as new" condition.

Is there difference on single and dual conversion range. And I mean only
range, not interference supression.

Anyone got any experience with range? Any brands better than others?. Please
send me youre facts and experience offline. As I have the Digest version.
