[RCSE] Need Timer For Visalia

2006-08-22 Thread Terry Mickle
Anybody going to Visalia and need a timer? I am on ch. 29 if you want to
share timing with me.

Let me know ASAP so we can get our names in before they set the flights
this weekend.

[RCSE] Need Timer For Visalia

2005-08-26 Thread Terry Mickle
I don't have a timer for Visalia this year. Does anyone need a timer? We
can time for each other and if we hurry we can get our names to CVRC so
they can separate us in the lineup.

Thanks,

Thanks Daryl for your comments. Sounds like your very happy with the
Insanity. Supra must be pretty good too.

Could someone tell us more about the Juniors - where they're from, their
ages, what other stuff they've done etc.

[RCSE] Need Hi-Load 60 Source

2005-01-06 Thread Terry Mickle
I am in Oregon and can't find Hi-Load 60 locally - I can't even find
anyone that will order it for me.

Recently someone with the email address of [EMAIL PROTECTED], posted a
message on RCSE relating a source of Hi-Load 60. The source was
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I sent an email enquiry to this source but it
bounced.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might get Hi-Load 60 at a
reasonable price?

[RCSE] Sorry About All The Hoopla

2004-10-11 Thread Terry Mickle
I'm sorry to see all the fuss in response to my question about the JR
9303 Radio. As I said I was just curious. I knew there was a fly-off for
something or other but I wasn't really paying attention.

I don't want anyone to think I was complaining or that I felt I deserved
anything. I'm happy someone won the radio and I would 100% rather it be
by merit that just blind luck - the person that won the flyoff really
won much more that a radio don't you think? I don't need a radio. I have
a nice radio and a backup. I think CVRC made a great choice to have a
flyoff.

I flew in a flyoff once and it was great fun - since I happen to win it
was even greater fun. I didn't win anything but I flew very well and
that's why it meant something to me. To be honest I don't get much
satisfaction out of winning if I don't perform well. Aren't the most
memorable times those that we did something special, even if we don't
win? Winning and performing well is the absolute best of course.

I would hope that we would be more understanding and not complain about
these things so much. We all know how good the Fall Festival is and we
know that they try very hard to make it a great contest and I think they
succeed very well. Sure they have some hiccups now and then but just
look at all they get right. I have been going to the Fall Festival for 8
years and for me this was the best one ever. I got to stay under a nice
shade (thank you Craig) with some nice people , I got to talk to people
about sailplanes and flying, I met some new people and generally just
had a great time. Oh yah, one of my flaps quit working before my flight
so I had to turn my flaps off. My plane launched almost as good as with
flaps, I made my time, and a did a pretty good landing, maybe a little
conservative but on the grass. I was suprised how I was more focused on
the planes energy than when I use flaps (after all I didn't want to kill
anyone and certainly did not want to land off field!) and I could see
that even when you use flaps you should really look at your energy more.

Now... Darwin, would you please tell us about your flight with the
broken wing! I heard the story from you but there were a lot of people
watching that flight (and cheering you on) and I'm sure they would like
to hear what happened!

[RCSE] What Happened to JR 9303 Radio?

2004-10-09 Thread Terry Mickle
There was a posting before Visalia that there would be a JR 9303 given
to the pilot finishing in 100th place. What ever happened with that?
Since I finished in 100th place I'm just curios.

[RCSE] Thank You CVRC

2004-10-08 Thread Terry Mickle
Thanks to all of you at CVRC for putting on another great contest. You
do such a great job every year and I hope that you realize how much we
all appreciate your efforts. The contest is so well run that it is truly
a pleasure to participate. I don't think a contest can get much better
than the Visalia Fall Festival, and that is due to a tremendous amount
of effort and hard work on your part.

Thank You All,

[RCSE] 2003 Montague X/C Challenge Results

2003-06-18 Thread Terry Mickle
This year's Montague X/C Challenge was held on June 14th and 15th at the
Siskiyou County Airport, a full scale glider airport near Montague
California. We had 15 teams show up and perfect weather.

This was my first year to actually fly in this event and it was a big
thrill for me. For those of you have never tried this, you are really
missing out. Granted there are some difficulties getting started but it
is well worth the effort. It's hard to describe what it's like to be
sitting in the back of a truck with the plane speeding across the sky at
high altitude and your navigator telling the driver to speed up because
the plane is outrunning you. And then getting down to telephone pole
height thinking you are going to have to land out but then finding a
thermal and off you go again. Ron McElliott told me he once got so low
his wing actually touched the tall grass but a dust devil came along and
he was able to get back up and spec out again. When we asked the winning
pilots to relate their flights, they all had some exiting moments during
their flight to tell about. I'm telling you, this stuff is FUN.

As in the past the first day's event is a distance task. There are
marked turnpoints and you may choose which turnpoint to go to from the
turnpoint you are at, as long as you don't go between two turnpoints
repeatedly. (You may go from A to B and then from B to A but you cannot
then go back to B).

The second day's task is a speed task. You go as far as you can in a 2
hour time period using the same turnpoints as above. Your speed is then
the distance you travelled divided by 2 hours. If you were not in the
air for 2 hours your speed is still calculated by dividing by the 2
hours. If you go over 2 hours, your distance is divided by your time.
This means you have to go much faster to increase your calculated speed
if you go over 2 hours. Look at the Rich Spicer and Mike Gervais results
for Sunday. Mike Gervais's team went .2 miles farther but it took them 4
minutes more and moved them into 3 place. The maximum time you are
allowed is 3 hours.

The results below should line up if you are using Courier or Courier New
font. If you have a problem, you can always copy this message into
WordPad, highlight it and change the font to Courier New.

[RCSE] Visalia Planes

2002-10-18 Thread Terry Mickle
I collected (or at least tried to) the list of planes being flown at
Visalia. I've been busy since I got back but will try to make some time
this weekend to type it all up. I will post the list to RCSE and
hopefully someone will also volunteer to put the list on their website.

[RCSE] Torrey Pines Petition!

2002-08-15 Thread Terry Mickle

I have just emailed all members of the Southern Oregon Soaring Society,
asking them to go to the online petition site and sign the petition.

Since many members of your various clubs may not be subscribed to RCSE
they may not be aware of the current battle. I would like to suggest
that someone from each club (who has all the email addresses) email all
your members and encourage them to sign the petition.

You may want to mention that they can look at the "View Current Signers"
link at the top of the page to see what comments other signers have
written in case they want to write something in the comments section of
the petition.
