Re: Re: [RCSE] JR 8103 lithium battery failure question
I just got my JR back from Horizon, and they changed that as part of their standard procedure. All my settings were intact, so I'm betting that if you have battery power, you can change that out / have it done. Horizon had my (sorry-*ss) radio back to me inside of 2 weeks, for not much money: I replaced my elevator/aileron stick and a switch, about 70 bucks plus shipping. Good luck, Brent RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Does obechi on foam need a glass layer to keep from splitting off the spar ?
I got great advice on doing this, hope it helps you. I would do glass at 45 degrees, 1-2oz cloth depending on your use After cutting your obechi, lay pieces of glass overlapping so that you can squeegee from the tip to the root without lifting the glass... You glass the obechi, put some epoxy/microballoons around the edges, root and sub-ribs, and then put that onto your cores - all this in one step, I'm not implying that you let the glass dry before applying to the cores. If you're doing a spar and you have to cut thru the foam to get it in, I'd also add a long strip of 2oz cloth to catch the razor / protect your 45 degree cloth. As long as I'm on it, you might consider carbon tow on the trailing edge. Good luck, Brent
Re: [RCSE] Contest Participation
Without opening myself up TOO much, I think there is a bit of truth in the complaints raised here As a third year flier, I am still familiar with being the 'new guy' at the field. If it were only for contests, I would have stopped flying before I ever got started. The DARTS went out of their way to make me feel welcome. They showed me their ships, showed me how to use a winch, explained the different contest formats, opened me up to what kind of planes were out there, who sold them, basically opened up this world to me. Without their come on out Saturday, we'll get you up support that finally got my Sagitta in the air, I'd be down at the local gas field flying an Ugly Stik and dreaming of my first Sukhoi It wasn't contests, it wasn't my first landing for points, it was the first time someone handed me the sticks of ship that I'd built that really hooked me. If I wasn't comfortable in that environment, I never would have come on a Sunday and flown a contest. I guess my point is that it's up to us to keep this sport alive - bring a friend out, help somebody learn, explain different kinds of flying, and talk to spectators. Contests are great, but the first step has to be a knowledgeable flier willing to take the time to share their excitement for this hobby. Participation should come from that love of flying. Happy Thanksgiving all, and thanks to all you who have helped me and others. Brent RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Wipers
Hi Bill, I know that I've seen that before, but the closest that I can remember now is the F3x.com site - there's an interesting bit showing repairing a wiper on a Pike (I think) I'll do some surfing, see if I can find anything more to pass on - Brent Darts - www.daytonsoaring.org RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Aero tow info
The 'preferred' release is the one that looks like a tube with a cam centered in it - when the cam rotates, the line is released.. Hobby Lobby has one, John Derstine, Endless Mountain, has one. If your plane has enough room, go with at least a standard servo, but the correct design doesn't really generate much resistance. Make sure to test on the ground under a good deal of line tension - you can always add astronger servo if you have any doubts that it will release. good luck!Brent
Re: [RCSE] thermaling question
This answer was the one that I've latched on to - but, thanks for all the responses!! The information that the list provided was very helpful. Brent ps - I had someone remind me that 'giving up' in a term had at least 2 meanings - I think the 'wrong' meaning makes for funnier responses. This is a nice answer. It answered the question that was asked. Thanks.. --- In [EMAIL PROTECTED], Jeb Bushell [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I have a very basic question - when do you give up in a thermal turn? If your plane speeds up in the turn then ease in some up elevator until it slows to normal speed. You should then notice it climbing rather than flying faster. Speed means kinetic energy, height means potential energy. These two forms of energy are interchangeable, excepting losses from drag. When thermalling, potential energy is what you are trying to gain. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] DARTS contest
I was there sunday we hope to get a newsletter out this month, and we'll post that to the website, but in the mean time The air was very still, no big lift, lots of scratching for times - especially since that evil man Jerry set task times at 10, 13,13, 2 hours and 13 (felt like), and 10. I'm assuming the 10 was the result of threats : ) Well, maybe the threat of a storm. A red Icon won on Saturday (JS), and an abomination of an Icon (do I even need say it?? - JB, just in case you've not seen it*) won on Sunday but not without lots of very tough man on man fighting - many rounds were flown out under 100 feet for what seemed like the whole task. at least that's what I remember most... Anyone else? Someone in the top 10? andWHO WON OHIO'S CUP?? Brent *actually, his ship / the Icons really are works of art 68 oz for that??? wow. Re: [RCSE] question - sailplane related...
wow, thanks for the detail!! i am looking at scale docs, checking out the mfr sites, polling folks with similar planes - this is very helpful one question - the 9 root sounds short to me i am eyeballing / doing some rough guestimates based on drawings, and i come up w/ a cord of about 12 (up to 14) inches... is that number (your 9) from your calculations, plans, what? thanks again, brent RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
