I wish the world was a different place.

Sadly John, the world is a different place. It became one at 0946 EDT on
 September 11, 2001.

Bill John and all,

Bill and John and all:

To make the world a different place is exactly the goal of I don't want to
know how many people who want to turn this planet into Allah's. These
fundamentalists are the minority in the islamic world (let's hope), but I have no
idea what could be a cure against people who are willing to kill themselves
and take as many non-believers as possible with them, believing that if they
die in the holy war that they would go to heaven directly.
What worries me most is how apparently easy it was for them to take out the
US, without the use of weapons or even bombs. Realizing that each plane
fueled up in the sky can be abused as a weapon that easy is scary, and who knows
if the terrorists even had to smuggle any weapons on board? What will be a
security improvement that could prevent this from happening again?
Will it be enough to take out Bin Laden, if they could ever hunt him down?
Where is the enemy? How much of a threat are all the people dancing in the
streets when they see the US in chaotic, burning disaster? Are most of those
pictures propaganda and in real life those fathers, mothers and children know
better?
It is scary. I just heard that military forces in San Diego are on 'delta 3'
alert, which is one level below war status.
I wanted to schedule the Cessna over the phone this morning to go on a cross
country flight when the flight school told me I probably won't go anywhere
in a plane today or maybe even the next couple of days, I should just turn on
the news. Ironically when I was on my motorcycle going on the 101 towards
Ventura, I thought Well, I have not watched the news today, although I am a
little worried about those couple of small earthquakes in LA within the last 48
hours which could be a sign of a bigger one coming soon. I wonder how the
freeway would look like if the big disaster really happens... Little did I know
that a different kind of disaster had indeed happened.
May the victims and families find peace, and may there be justice for the
culprits. May it be over with the violence and may the judges have wisdom to
not make matters worse.

We have communicated via email and I have been on the phone all morning

Unfortunately it has always been a different place, but our
generation is just beginning to get a glimpse of it.
Our nation has been relatively free of these horrendous acts, and
hopefully will stay that way. Pray for those who are immediately
affected and for our leaders to use wisdom in the way they handle
this.

You are of course correct. Yesterday most Americans would have
bulked at being photographed and fingerprinted before being allowed
to board an airplane. Perhaps not today. Regis

too late. there is another war. As several Senators and Congressmen said,
this was another Pearl Harbor. Remember what happened to the attackers
there?
-

Today's events were far, FAR worse than the Pearl attack. Civilian
structures were targeted; civilian blood has been spilled.

I'm still waiting for the Day... that will live... in infamy reference
from Bush.

There better be a reaction. A reaction appropriate to a situation where
someone comes into my country and kills tens of thousands of my countrymen.
I would expect that it would involve the use of force.

[RCSE] Another day that will live in infamy

2001-09-11 Thread Scobie Puchtler or Sarah Felstiner

I was
flying my smallcessna just yesterday afternoon, thinking what a priviledge
it is.
Today,
the entire nation's air traffic is grounded.

John
Roe was saying he wished the world was a different place.
I
couldn't agree more.

After
today, it will be a different place, of course, but not the one either of us had
in mind, I'm sure.

Now I'm getting on a bicycle to go feed a friend's cat,
a friend who can't get home from Oregon because hissmall plane is grounded. The details of life can feel so absurd in the face of
events this large.

I'll
spend the ride praying for todays victims, andhoping for peace for this world we live
in.

It seems almost wrong that it is such a perfect
beautiful late summer day here in Seattle.

Breathe deeply, everyone. Every lungfull is a
priviledge.

Lift,
Scobie
in Seattle.

A co-worker has been trying to get in touch with her sister all day -
her sister worked in the WTC.

Another co-worker got a call from his girlfriend who worked across the
street from the WTC. She told him of watching people jump out of windows
to certain death.

I'm just numb. Everything was so normal yesterday.
