[RCSE] 3110 Motor

2006-04-21 Thread George L Meyers
I just learned the meaning of the saying that "if I didn't have bad luck I
wouldn't have any at all". I mounted the 3110 motor in my winch frame and
ran it so I could sand the shaft like you would in a lathe. I had to sand
the entire length of the shaft. The end by the brushes was harder as I had
to remove the armature and be very careful. I finally got it all done.
When I tried to mount the Real Balls to the motor, the bolts will not go
thru the slots in the heat sink. Now I have to go buy new bolts. I'm
stubborn enough to keep at it until it's done.

The original (remanufactured) starter motors had a wide tolerance. I
had one that was too short. The new starter motors made in India
have a much better tolerance. Try http://www.injoy-1.com/catal_sail.htm

If it is not much, put it in a lathe or drill press and use some
Crocus Cloth to work it down a bit.

If your supplier will not trade your motor for one with the needed shaft
size, you may be able to solve the problem by buying a new/remfr armature
(with
the right shaft size). We obtained a quantity of those a few years ago thru
a local auto starter/alternator service/rebuild shop for about $45 ea to
support maintenance of club & ESL winches. Good Lift!

I'll assume you are talking about the bearing for the shaft. you can
heat the bearing up in an oven and press it over the shaft You don't
need 400 about 150 should expand it enough without harming the seal.

Check the fit of the drum I'll bet it fits ok to the shaft. You don't
want to turn the shaft if it fits.
