Thanks for all the replys,
BUT, It appears that NO one read my message.
I will be arriving in Muncie day after tomorrow (Our NATs don't start till
August!)and I would like to fly WITH the club at THEIR site. So if any of the
MIST club (I think that is their name) members are out there, I would like a
way to contact them.

This is the first time I've seen the day before soaring, not used by

Actually, this year they might allow it with 2.4 , but haven't in the past.

"Muncie site will be closed to RC flying beginning July 6th through August
10th. Spread Spectrum flying may be done at site 4 and site 8 if not in use
for an official contest. Other areas may be open to RC flying after 5 pm if
scheduled events are finished"

You guys are just kids. I know that Richard can fly a plane too far away for me
to see, because I saw him do it twice. When I was a young whippersnapper like
you two junior flyers I was better at this than I am today. Don't complain

Look at the age range of the flyoffs. Pretty wide. The old guys can't
say

it's a young man's sport and the young can't say it's an old guy's sport.

===

Well, speaking as the oldest contestant (I think), I have to say that all
of the flyoff participants, old and young, flew farther away than I could
see.

I can also say that at a certain point in your life, your timing in the
launch process starts to get less accurate. That doesn't matter much in
benign conditions, but it turned out to matter quite a lot in the strong
and gusty conditions. Moreover, when your visual acuity isn't as good as
it ought to be, you can't pick up the little changes in the plane's
attitude and behavior that you need to see in order to surf in the kind of
air we had.

Actually, although the conditions were sometimes unpleasant, they were
perfect for spreading the field and selecting the real masters. Young or
old, those who scored well did it by outstandingly skillful flying.

three days. It rained some today, so it cooled off a bit. Lots of big

[RCSE] Muncie Revisited

2005-07-31 Thread Jim Deck
OK. so I told my wife about the 909 Grille and Vera Mae's eating spots
in Muncie. A quick look at their menus on the Internet and my wife says,
"let's go down there." So, tomorrow I'll show her the AMA site & museum,
take a look at electric competition, and let her sample Muncie's best
eateries and see where I've been "Summer camping" all these years. I may
even plant a bug in the electric guys' ears about a day of F5J on their
first day next year.
I'll file a report on what I saw in electrics upon our return.

[RCSE] "Muncie was tough today!"

2004-10-02 Thread GordySoar

We started the day with light winds cold temps and light rain.

I battled out the first rounds with Rich Burnowski who was born and bred in
the briar patch of wind and cold.  He flew his new Fazer for the first time
and it really suits his style and the conditions.  Launches were key.

But Steve Siebenaler was the true hero of the day.  He took his Pike
Superior way out over the Museum in real balls move, found a gopher fart to work
and buried a bunch of hot thumbs for a crush and comeback run to second
place.  Easily one of the midwests best thumbs.  He has made
tremendous improvements in his contest soaring skills since I let him sign off
my LSF2 paperwork.

Marc Gellart just didn't have his head into it today, but look out
tomorrow!

Paul Siegel was hot but got buried by one of my Visalia flights and that
threw off his focus.

There wasn't any rockets, foamie night combat flights or races, no spud
guns or all up last down DHLG battles, but there was tough man on man
grit.

Making a notable comeback from some really embarrassing flying this season
was Karl Miller who made a huge run from back in the ranks to third place!
Way to go Karl!

Pilots meeting is at 7:30 again tomorrow, weather is likely to be light
winds, 85 degrees and blue skies again...er sorry thats here in Visalia

:-)

I have pictures, just give me some time... 8-)
The model I saw was a prototype, so it probably will change...
It's size and proportions, it had a very long tail moment, I think Daryl
said something about shortening the fuse a bit so it would fit in his
car. Large wingspan, typical full flying stab and cruciform tail, and I
like what I saw in the air. Great hang, great range, easy to see at
distance. Appeared very stable in flight, and tracked well to the landing
circle. Launches were big, but Daryl always launches big... It displayed
a wide speed range, large models at times appear so slow in flight. I
watched Daryl make a low height save with it in one round, it will wrap
quite tightly for such a big model.

It was a real Muncie model... suited to the large wide open flying site we
have at the AMA headquarters.

You guys should see Insanity 3.7, Daryl's new model. It's the first new
model in a long time that has caught my eye, my "Barney" ICON lite looks
small next to it. Imagine that...

[RCSE] Muncie site

2001-12-07 Thread Dave

I'd like to add my .02 worth to the fray. In 2000, we visited the AMA HQ at
Muncie. It was 5 July. The fields were absolutely the most beautiful
flying sites and terrific facilitiesI have ever seen. AMA did well to
secure this site for all modelers, both present and future.
This being said, Muncie has several drawbacks, namely heat and humidity. I
know there are common detractions in many parts of the country.
I believe that until the AMA or some other large group can locate and secure
multiple flying sites, perhaps a day's drive from one another within the
continental USA, that the thrust should be to have regional soaring Nats
contests at some of the great flying fields currently available. Regional
members of the LSF could officiate and supervise these contests, and
rotating them around the country wouldn't put a great burden on any one
group. perhaps, having somewhat similar events at one location and others at
another at a different time, might work.
This is just a thought, don't mean to step on anybody's toes, apologies if I
have offended anyone.

Re: [RCSE] Muncie Reposted

2000-07-29 Thread Derek Boyer

Yes, the air is "challenging." Hence, my post. But whatever you do, don't
think that Cali is a launch and a speck every through. We can all
romanticize the great conditions, but when the air is hot, the cycles get
really spread apart and the wind is both strong and shifty (as in tublunet,
not necessarily indicating up/down air) you'll indeed remember that the
grass is not necessarily greener. You guys back there enjoy one end of the
spectrum and we enjoy the other. Both will have equally hard times on
eachothers' turf. I won't show up in Muncie without an ultrafloater, and
when y'all come to Poway, you'd better have something that has legs in the
wind.

Yes, we may seem to take things for granted sometimes, like flying against
the top half dozen HLG pilots in the world whenever we want, being able to
work "light" lift with a 9.5oz bird and having a half dozen flight centers
within an hour's drive. But we do appreciate these things as blessings, and
soak up the knowledge and experience while we can.
