Re: [RCSE] Two meter gliders
Is it the overall weight that matters or the wing loading? Reason for asking - my LAR 2M will come in at 5 oz/ft^2 at 36 oz. 21 oz. will be unobtainable. Airfoil is the AG36 thinned to 90%. Thanks. RVC My 2-meter Aegea weighs 21 oz, with a 6.2 oz/ft^2 loading, and I wish it was a bit lighter. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). RE: [RCSE] Two meter gliders
I calculate your model's wing area is 7.2 sq ft with an aspect ratio of only 6. Are you sure of the wing area? Big span and low wing loading mean low induced drag, but all that wetted area (if correct) will increase the profile drag. IMO for pure gliders (rather than electric ones) weight isn't important, wing loading is. [RCSE] Two meter gliders
I've been flying HLG/DLG (~11oz AUW, 4oz/ft2 wing loading) for some time and I'm considering upgrade to a 2m floater with 6-servo full house capability. I'm not sure what AUW or wing loading should be for a 2m floater that feel like (in terms of thermal capability) a HLG/DLG while maintain a reasonable penetration capability (possible light wind slope soaring). Following is some of the choices available on the market with fully- or partially-molded, winch-launchable 2m floaters. Renny 20 oz 5.9 oz/ft2 Organic 30 oz 7.4 oz/ft2 Enigma 32 oz 8.0 oz/ft2 Mini Graphite 37 oz 8.3 oz/ft2 Start lite pro 34 oz 9.0 oz/ft2 Any recommendation for the right wing loading. Or there are some other choices available on the market that can meet my needs. Thanks, HS RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Two meter gliders
Have you considered just going to a larger unlimited class full house ship? I know it seems like there is a logical progression from 1.5m span to 2m span, but... Not much difference in cost, a larger model will be easier to fly and easier to see, and you will have a lot more model options to choose from. If you have to have one from your list it would be the Organic.
