The motors and accessories for Injoy are great. One major difference between the two applications is that the rabbit (or the dogs) do not leave the ground. The extra 750 feet of loose tow line flowing through the turn around would be a major problem.

Vehicle towing is great where you have the run out room for the vehicle, but like F3J you have little control after the process is started. Some of my club members have tried almost everything, down to a remote control car pulling a hand launched model. It worked until the wheels were lifted from the ground by the model.

So I guess there is no free lunch. If you want to fly, you must have some equipment to do it with.

I remember an article in Model Builder or RCM many years ago where they did a setup like that. The major problem to solve was the extra line drag on the ground.

This was waaay back before Rahm was making winches, and before retrievers were in widespread use.

I guess the first problems that come to mind are:
-The tow lines getting tangled in the turnaround and the winch each time it
passes those points.
-Fixing line breaks...The length of the line is critical. I guess a strap
of some kind could be used from winch to turnaround and back that is far
stronger than the tow line. I don't know, just a thought.
-Line drag??? Is it an issue? Could guide rings be placed along the length
of the returning line to keep it off the ground?
I don't know. I may be w off base.

Just my first thoughts.

Subject: [RCSE] Continuous Loop Winch?

Has anyone here ever heard of a continuous loop sailplane winch? The setup
would look something like this:
http://www.vvsss.com/ezone/clwinch.gif
Continuous loops are used with dog lure machines, which are virtually
identical to sailplane winches, and pulleys made for the purpose are
available from Injoy.
(See S/S Continuous Loop Wheel at http://www.injoy-1.com/catal_1.htm )
This is an obvious idea and it seems certain that someone must have tried
it,
but so far I haven't found anything on the web.

I saw a similar system at a contest in Lakeland Florida back in
1974. Worked great until one of the towlines wrapped around the ground
line loop. You never saw such a mess and we spent more time waiting for
the lines to be untangled than we spent flying.
