artvideoKOELN international is happy to launch on Thursday, 4 September 2014 CologneOFF X 10th Cologne International Videoart Festival http://coff10.newmediafest.org under the motto - Total Art (Gesamtkunstwerk) On occasion of the collaboration with Institut fuer Alles Moegliche Berlin on 4 September 2014, CologneOFF is launching in 2014 its 10th festival edition. Founded in 2005 by Wilfried Agricola de Cologne, director of artvideoKOELN international, the characteristics of CologneOFF were from the beginning to be an experimenting platform for finding the ideal concepts for preseting art moving images to an audience. As a festival travelling to most different venues in an exchange between virtual and physical space, CologneOFF is a global networking project to be realised in cooperation with international cooperating partners all over the world. The festival is not reduced to the usual running time of 2 or 3 days at a single venue, but running all over the year including up to 32 physical venues, and 7 days a week and 24 hours a day via the online component offering viewers/users the videos of the complete festival programs for review. CologneOFF X is standing under the motto of Total Art (Gesamtkunstwerk) featuring 175 works by audio visual creators from 30 countries who follow the ideas of Gesamtkunstwerk in most individual ways, demonstrating the richness diversity of digital video as an artistic medium in the progrms, entitled: Alienated Territories, Alienated Memory, Alienated Identities, Alienated Timelines, One Minute Wonder, Brave New World. For presenting SFC to a wider audience, a presentation context has been created, entitled: A Virtual Memorial - Commemorative Interventions - placing the outstanding collection of meanwhile more than 50 art films and videos into the context of complementary interventions like lectures, a symposium, screenings, exhibitions,performances, a concert, artists presentations, talks and discussions - in order to activate the artists, as well as the audience, so that people can find a personal approach to the Holocaust via self-identification. While each personality is including the dark side of human nature, the Holocaust is considered to be the worst possible manifestation of this dark side, which therefore may happen again at any time at any place, if we are not very careful, and genocides and crimes against humanity happen before our very eyes,even these days. The credo of Shoah Film Collection as a initiative for peace and reconciliation is: The Holocaust must not happen again! Never More! The manifestation of Shoah Film Collection in Lithuania is suffering from the general lack of funding. Due to the internation financial crisis and the fact that Lithuania is a poor country and the hosting institutions in Vilnius - Jewish Cultural Center and - Kedainiai - Regional Museum - have only a small budget available which allows just a minimal kind of project realisation, while for essential parts of the interventions additional external funding needs to be found. Unfortunately the current funding structures in Europe are not made for that kind of internationally operating art project from Germany dealing with the Holocaust to be realised in Lithuania. However as an alternative, the new type of community based crowdfunding is representing a most promissing way to find the required additional funding. But by organising this project, additionally still existing discriminating stereotypes need to be overcome, which is requiring much more power and energy to motivate and activate people to support the campaign financially. For the supporter and donator of this campaign, a lot of gifts in form of art works or art related works are available as a compensation, which makes it very attractive to support the international initiative for Peace and Reconciliation and show solidarity. CologneOFF 2012 Philippines Generation Loss Festival in Manila - 14-28 March 2012 is based on the collaboration between Green Papaya Art Projects Quezon City (Manila) and Cologne International Videoart Festival (Cologne/Germany) and the curators Merv Espina (Manila) and Agricola de Cologne (Cologne/Germany). Generation Loss explores the development of experimental film and video, as well as their contributions to the current and new genres in art making particularly in the Southeast Asian region. Generation loss is a technical term referring to the loss of quality between subsequent copies of data. The project attempts to address issues of archiving and archive-usage, production, distribution, technology, education, piracy and intellectual copyright, among the various creative moving image practices employed in the region today. Call for entries - Festival Miden 2009 - start from zero! Video Art Festival Miden invites all video artists and video creators to participate in this year's events, which will take place, like the past four years, in public spaces at the Historic Centre of the city of Kalamata, Greece, in July 2009. In it's 5th realization, Festival Miden is supported by Kalamata's Historic Centre Organisation, The Messinia Chamber of Commerce and the Municipality of Kalamata. The deadline for the submission of application forms and videos is the 31st of March 2009 (post stamped). This year, along with the main program, Festival Miden wishes to present the following additional special showcases: -- a special theme program entitled Transforming the ordinary -- a special theme program entitled Strange thoughts -- a tribute to videodance -- a special theme program entitled Urban (R)evolutions in the context of the Urban (R)evolutions thematic unit, along with video screenings we invite all artists to submit still images (photos, digital images, photo-montages, collages, drawings, 3D graphics, architectural proposals etc) which transform and alter creatively the urban landscape. Each participant can submit up to 10 images. All submitted works will be screened in the form of a slide-show in open spaces of the Historic Centre of Kalamata. Submitted works must be original. The seven works selected, created in different times, address different facets of the nature of Internet, from the social perception of the self and of the body in relation to technology, to the potential impact that this medium can have on society, mostly when art is concerned. The relationship between nature art and representation of the self with the flow of information is synthesized in the hybrid portrait of Deus Fleurs by the French artist Reynald Drouhin. Generative processes as art are the core of C.J. Yeh's Equal where personal data generate modernist-like paintings. Sound and space in relation to dynamics and energy are the subject of Santiago Ortiz's Sound and Energy where Internet is treated as a canvas for dynamic and interactive sketches. Molleindustria's works, a collective engaged in the creation of original games aimed to rise political concerns are excellent examples of how games, and Internet as a vehicle to foster them, can ease issues otherwise difficult to face. Mc Donald's Videogame is a courageous critique of the McDonald's brand and of the functioning of its corporation, at the origin of remarkable ecological damages. It is through the game that Juliet Davis explores in Pieces of Herself feminine embodiment and its relation to real and virtual space. A game is also involved in Iconoclast Game by Lorenzo Pizzanelli: through irony and play the author gives a critical view of the power of images and of the museums that make them sacred. F.R.U.I.T., engaged in the shaping of an on-line community to encourage cultivation within urban areas, is a project where the network activity is art. It makes clear that net art is action and it is closer to performing than any other art practice. - About the curator Elena Giulia Rossi works and lives in Rome/Italy as an independent curator.
