yeah I tried that,
its half baked, suse support cant figure it..
got benoit up at last, but now find that ipforwarding is bl*** well hidden

rave reviews all over the shop for yast2, but nothing about setting up a
gateway, unless you want to pay £10 for a cd that reboots every 8 hours.
no thanks!

anyway struggling on, may have to return to RH, but didn't fancy the
upgrade path, or purchasing the next minor revision...

thanks again

[speedtouch] Re: problems with alcatel modem and suse 8

2002-07-10 Thread Greg MATTHEWS

i've found redhat pretty much a breeze to update using the up2date facility. i
dont think theres much need to upgrade to a whole new distribution (i.e. 7.2 -
7.3) if you've got up2date running regularly. i *believe* that recent
versions of up2date will even upgrade the kernel altho i havent tested this
personally having been burned by this in the past (easy enough to sort out tho
by booting with a boot disk).

granted RH sucks in a cpl of other areas tho (kickstart is a painful learning
process to say the least), i used debian (woody) for my adsl gateway.

I am running alcatel modem with SuSe8 using Benoit's drivers with no
problems.
My ISP is Wanadoo.

If you have a standard SuSE PRO installation then you ***must first***
install the following packages:
auto config, build and make from Develop\Tools\Building as well as gcc from
Develop\Languages\C and C++
so that you can compile Benoit's drivers. The process is fairly straight
forward after that unless you make a typo!

yeah i wrote an install bash script for bt and suse/ redhat and debian, he
used that but hes on nildram so had to change some things slightly if your
using bt, it should just work, it uses a script that brings the connection up
as the machine is booting,

check http://www.vnet.ndirect.co.uk/linux/btFAQ/

and download the suse script, its using an old version of the benoit drivers
though i gotto update it i aint had time.

any one else here im pretty much a newbie at bash scripts if u can download it
and give advice on how to improve it i would be greatful, or add changes /
take it over

thanks

No I used this
http://benoit.papillault.free.fr/speedtouch/index.en.php3

As I already said, you can't do the : make
And as root: make install without adding the packages I listed below.

The only other problem that I know of would be your motherboard and/or bios
settings (for example if the bios are set at safe your PPP support is non
existant).
