[speedtouch] pppd and knoppix
Hi All, I'm a linux newbie who's trying to get speedtouch working on GNU Musix 0.5 distro, which is based upon Knoppix (info: http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=musix) - it has been installed and works like a dream on my laptop. I've tried searching the FAQ and archive but still a bit lost, so please bear with me. Having read the notes on the site I have done the firmware-extraction and installation, and my system now appears to be 'speedtouch aware', in as much as that the usb-viewer shows a speedtouch modem connected. And if I try apropos usb or apropos modem (as suggested by friend) .. I can read man pages for commands that know all about Speedtouch, (modem_run and pppoa3 etc.) but I do not understand them. The problem is, I don't really know what to do after this. I can see there are notes for other distros... Fedora, Ubunto, Suse etc.. and they all give rather similar, yet differing accounts of PPPD configuration. So my problem is .. i think ... How do I go about configuring pppd for my distro? Are any of the listed distros on the Speedtouch front page close enough to my own to be able use their howto? for reference: My ISP is UK, virgin.net IP Addressing: dynamically assigned IP address VPI: 0 VCI: 38 Connection type: PPPoA Encapsulation: VC-MUX Authentication method: CHAP Many thanks for any suggestions, pointers, or help given. [speedtouch] pppd 2.4.3 - persist option not working
Hello all! Im using 2.6.10 kernel and the kernel driver for my Speedtouch. Everything works fine but my ISP resets connection every 24h and i get new IP. And here comes the problem - pppd does not reconnect, it simply exists: Feb 24 02:54:04 serwer pppd[2579]: LCP terminated by peer Feb 24 02:54:04 serwer pppd[2579]: Connect time 1448.6 minutes. Feb 24 02:54:04 serwer pppd[2579]: Sent 246187504 bytes, received 143411644 bytes. Feb 24 02:54:08 serwer pppd[2579]: Connection terminated. Feb 24 02:54:08 serwer pppd[2579]: Exit. I was not having this problem while using 2.4.25 kernel with the user-mode driver and ppp 2.4.2. My option for pppd looks as follows: defaultroute noipdefault noauth noaccomp nopcomp noccp novj holdoff 4 maxfail 25 persist updetach usepeerdns lcp-echo-interval 10 lcp-echo-failure 3 user [EMAIL PROTECTED] plugin /usr/local/lib/pppd/2.4.3/pppoatm.so 0.35 As far as I know the persist option is responsible for reconnecting. Is it some kind of bug introduced in ppp 2.4.3? Anyone having similiar problems? Maybe i should go back to previous version of ppp (2.4.2). Id be really grateful for any help. Thanks in advance. -- Moim programem pocztowym jest Opera: http://www.opera.com/m2/ Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se dsinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[speedtouch] pppd ?
Hi! I've problems connecting to my ISP using pppd with my alcatel speedtouch USB. I compiled all the necessary options into the kernel like ppp over atm and asynchronous transfer mode and I also use a ppp (2.4.3) that supports atm. The pppoatm.so plugin is also there, but when i start ppp it just prints plugin init and connect 8.48 (which is my vci/vpi pair) but i get no ip or a default gateway ... the options are also correct and chap and pap-secrets are also ok. does anybody know what i can do? tia Gernot Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

[speedtouch] pppd problem
Hi! I have a problem with configuring my Alcatel Speedtouch USB ADSL modem. I've already read all the howtos that were about it and made the necessary steps to get this stuff work. OS: Debian woody I've compiled a new kernel according to the howtos: kernel-2.4.21 (I did't have to apply hdlc patch.). hotplug-2003_05_01 speedtouch-1.6 kernel modul speedtouch-1.2-beta1 driver for the Alcatel USB SpeedTouch modem. [speedtouch] pppd won't start.
I am trying to configure my SpeedTouch USB DSL modem to connect through 8.0. I followed the directions in the howto, and seem to have most everything working. I get through all the steps with no errors until I try to start pppd. This is what's in my /var/log/messages file regarding it: pppd[1220]: ioctl(pppiocgflags): Inappropriate ioctl for device then pppd exits and I can't browse. :( Any help is appreciated, Mellissa Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe
[speedtouch] pppd not doing anything??
Bonjour a tous, I'll write this in English so everyone can read it. I am rebuilding my Gentoo linux system now after a HD crash. Connecting to BT openworld works fine under Mandrake, but with Gentoo, after modem_run, pppd does not do anything. I have checked and re-checked the config files for ppp, they're identical to the ones Mandrake has. (speedtouch-1.1, ppp 2.4.1). The modules are loaded correctly, usbdevfs and /dev/pts are mounted correctly as well. modem_run goes as far as obtaining the line sync ok. And that's the last line I can see in /var/log/messages. When I launch pppd I am immediately returned to the prompt, and no extra lines are added to the log/messages. ppp.log is created but empty. So is connect-errors. Therefore I am stuck :( Has anyone got ideas to help me investigate this issue? Maybe this has occured before? I know other Gentoo users don't have that problem, but then there's few of them using the speedtouch usb AFAIK. English or French (or any language for that matter) are not a problem. One thing that might help, the ppp-2.4.1 in Gentoo is automatically patched with pppoe support, is there a conflict there? (I don't know if this was the case the last time I built a system) thanx/danke/merci for any help! [speedtouch] pppd doesn't connect with redhat 7.3
hi, I've got a Red hat 7.3 with the default kernel 2.4.18-3(so i think that usb, hdlc and ppp are correctly configured).I try to setup my speedtouch modem and it doesn't work. I have installed the Benoit's driver and the Alcatel's microcode.I modify also the different files(I follow the How-to instructions to modify /etc/ppp/option,/etc/ppp/peer/adsl,/etc/ppp/chap-secrets).I also add ppp's modules and hdlc's modules in /etc/module.conf. I try to launch speedtouch with: #modem_run path_to_mgmt.o #pppd call adsl The modem seem's to be running(light's modem seem's to be correct) but pppd can't connect to my ISP. I try both pppoa3 -m 1 -c and pppoa2.
[speedtouch] PPPD does not reconnect, only after reboot!
Hi I am using Redhat 7.2 with the default 2.4.7-10 kernel. I am also using the speedtouch / USB hotplug combination. Whenthe link fails, it can never reconnect. The only way Ican getback online is to reboot the machine.
[speedtouch] pppd dies :(
Hi, I succedeed in initializing my modem (i think), as the leds goes off, then blink red, and finally switch to plain green. But when I try to launch pppd it dies with Illegal instruction What's wrong, i used a precompiled .deb version, as i can't even compile it. I think that's because I didn't succeed in compiling atm-0.78 Is atm-0.78 really mandatory to run pppd? Could you send me the source tree of atm, so I can "make install" Thanks __ ifrance.com, l'email gratuit le plus complet de l'Internet ! vos emails depuis un navigateur, en POP3, sur Minitel, sur le WAP... http://www.ifrance.com/_reloc/email.emailif Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se dsinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe
