ll groups,

since 2000 I monitor a strange sound station with German numbers on 6869
kHz. The sound is a kind of music, which is strangely rising and falling,
and during this, there are German numbers, which sound like 2 8 5 6979
over and over. Never heard something like this before, although I monitor
numbers stations since over 25 years.

Any ideas?

I tried posting a reply this morning, but it doesn't seem to have gone
through... I apologize in advance if it shows up later.

That signal sounds like someone has been playing with Kraftwerk samples.
Chesk out their Web site:

http://www.kraftwerk.com

The title page, the Numbers page, and the Minimum-Maximum page all
contain sounds that might have been used by this particular broadcaster.
I wonder if it's a pirate after all, or a real numbers station that just
happens to be using these sounds? I suspect it's the former...

Nice articles, unfortuntely the mainstream media
insists on calling Cuba Communist when it really is
not.

Most of us had a hunch what the Cuban family of
stations were for, we were right.

 Hello,

I am new to shortwave radio and numbers stations
 (haven't managed to
 hear
one yet!) and picked up what sounds like a periodic
 data burst at 4460
 kHz a
few days ago (5 August 2005, 230900 UTC).

I didn't think much of it, but when I ran the sounds
 through a spectrum
analyzer a very interesting (binary-esque) pattern
 appeared.

Any ideas? (or am I just picking up my neighbor's
 blender?)

Hey, Chris, a brilliant input. I know the band Kraftwerk, and it's really
possible, that it's taken from them, cause they work with such sounds indeed.

Globe Wireless markers on 4459.0 from the Dixon site in north central
California. I have it S9 right now in day time, so the radius is right.

Someone else reported a weird noise on 6431.4 which is also a Globe marker,
but it briefly had their odd failure mode where every burst drifts upward in
frequency with the characteristic little 170-Hz boink in the middle, then
goes back on-channel between bursts. This is WNU in Louisiana and they'd
fixed it last night.
