I've enclosed the log files here. Both the memory-eating issue, and the
client "Searching..." issue might have clues in them. I'll examine them
myself after I've posted them here to see if I notice anything that
tells me something (I haven't yet).

The memory issues happened earlier on, and stopped after I killed the
processes and reinitiated a scan.

2018-08-08 Thread Michael Herger

If you add (cant really remember the exact number) something like 5
without a scan that can happen.

Thanks for the tip! There's quite a lot of folders - do you know why
adding a bunch at once would eat up so much memory? The only reason
that comes to mind (as a programmer) are that the scan is done
multithreaded, and each thread is allocating lots of memory per tree
descent. But even so... seems a little much.

As bpa mentioned LMS isn't using that much memory. You're not running
low. And what DJanGo presents as a fact, is just something he wrote.
Don't take it for granted.

LMS is single threaded. Before you haven't provided more information
(log files) it's all random speculation.

Hi,

the media folders... how many ?

My advice for this step is

- just add one folder
- do a scan
- repeat until all your wanted folders are done

If you add (cant really remember the exact number) something like 5
without a scan that can happen.

Lookingh at log again - what sort of player are you using ? I quickly
assumed Plugin:UPNP was Phillip's UPNP player but it's not.

arecord has a lot of memory not LMS (in fact it look like Plex is using
more memory than LMS) - what is wavinput playing to ? Has it been
paused ? Did you have an player playing and then turned it off and the
"power off" setting are "pause at power off ". This shouldn't be a
prpblem as normally the Linux pipe buffer limit kicks in but you haven't
given any info on your setup.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] My server locked up with playing from WavInput.

I think the UPNPplayer doesn't like some streams - I've seen something
like this with BBCiPlayer plugin. The UPNP player tries to collect as
much data as it can but wavinput is infinite.

Get onto Phillip - there are UPNP plugin settings to avoid this.

When you have problems like this - break it down to components - does
the problem happen with real SB player is usually the first step.

Not at all: it didn't even start swapping. It reports 987M out of 3.8G used.

What I see from your server.log though is that you have a networking
issue. LMS doesn't find any valid IP address, falling back to 127.0.0.1.

About a week ago I installed the plugin WaveInput (v1.04) seems to work
good. But 2 times now don't know why my server just locks up and I have
to turn off the power and back up. It's a Ubuntu server.

Looked at the LMS error log and here is the last part of it if this will
say why it locked up not sure.

It's been a while and I can't remember what you tested. Did you try
1. Playing the podcast with player connected to LMS and LMS player using
"proxied streaming" setting
2. If using DHCP with leases - either make lease very long or use static
IP address for end point of twit stream (i.e player for non-proxied, LMS
server for proxied streaming).

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] First Linux install attempt - server consumes all available memory and system crashes

2018-08-08 Thread tbessie

Hey all, folks...

So I recently bought a small fanless PC (Zotac CI549) to run LMS on.

I wanted to run Linux on it, as that generally is faster and uses fewer
resources than Windows.

So I finally got everything set up, and when I set the media folders to
scan and pressed "Apply" on the web interface, the web interface hung.

I checked the process, and the server was quickly gobbling up all the
memory on the system (I installed 16gb) until it had used it all up, and
the whole system froze.

I rebooted my system, and tried this again; it once again started eating
up all the memory, so I killed LMS manually; the system restarted it,
and this time the media library settings stuck. I clicked "Rescan", and
this time all the music was rescanned successfully and LMS didn't use up
all the memory.

Has anyone else seen this happen? I've never seen anything like this
happening on Windows, so was surprised this happened on Linux.

Anyway, after all this, I try to connect to the new server with my
Squeezebox Radio and also with my Duo Controller; they both find the
server, but when I enter user and password, it sticks at "Searching..."
forever.

I would think if it were a firewall issue, it wouldn't be able to
connect at all, and wouldn't get stuck at "Searching...".

Any advice or suggestions for both of these issues would be greatly
welcomed. :-)
