Just noticed I have this as well. Have not seen before, but I haven't
been a close watcher of the logs. This is also coupled with erratic
operation of the server, for example, non-response to pause command from
the web interface. Players are squeezelite 1.9.

Ok, you are misunderstanding what is happening here. No files are being
altered. LMS is applying the SoX effect in real-time.

Anyway, you have other options described here that might be better
suited for RPi.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?

2019-12-28 Thread whitman

I’m coming to the conclusion that I’m not going to update to Catalina
from Mojave yet.

That’s not so much down to LMS, which I assume from the lack of response
to my question in recent posts here is working and running OK on
Catalina.

It’s more like Michael’s decision to stay with Mojave so he can use
Aperture a bit longer.

For me, it’s about being able to continue using Dragthing, but also my
uncertainty about apps such as Burn and My Harmony working with
Catalina, and my worries concerning the compatibility of my Canon
printer and my Seagate external drives.

Sorry, a bit off LMS topic. But for me, it all says WAIT. And that’s
what I’m going to do. Maybe 10.15.3 or 10.15.4?

DOUBLE OUCH!

With a 57,000+ library, converting all mp3 to flac isn't happening in my
lifetime (roughly 75% are mp3).

You've been a great help, but we can stop this now. I'd hoped doing this
would be relatively easy, but it (as is true of much in life) is not. It
would be far easier to do this with cabling out of my rPi setup. That's a
bit permanent, which I'd hoped a software implementation would avoid, but I
see now given your replies that even a software implementation is neither
trivial nor "switchable" (as in switch from stereo to mono at will).

Makes me appreciate that mono-defeat button on old FM stereo receivers!

Again, your replies are much appreciated.

Ok, if this works for you and you have a lot of mid/low-bitrate MP3
there is in fact a way to do it without transcoding. You have to
disable native hardware MP3 playback and convert all MP3 to FLAC on the
server. However, for 320kbps MP3 transcoding has very little audible
effect.

Roland0 -- downmix to mono. I knew of the Channel output option already.
That that is only Stereo/Right/Left with no down-mix. The situation is
complicated by my use of piCorePlayer, SqueezeLite, LMS, and a HifiBerry
audio card (so, for example, using /etc/asound.conf does not work--at
least, not as I attempted to configure it).

I'd found the sox downmix possibility, but could not figure out how to
implement it (SqueezeLite? LMS?).

apesbrain suggested custom-convert.conf for LMS. Now to figure out the
exact string to make such use the sox downmix.

Thanks for replying!

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Force LMS mono output

2019-12-28 Thread Guy Stalnaker
Curious about the formatting of the custom-convert.conf file. If I want
*all* output to mono, does this do that:

{conf}
#mp3 mp3 squeezebox 00:02:dd:34:e9:62
# ./brute_filter $FILE$ -

* * * *
  [sox] $FILES$ channels 1 -
{conf}

I read the file instructions to support this:

# First line format:
#

# either or both of and
# may be the '*' wildcard

So, if I use * * * * I am specifying all source formats, all destination
formats, all device types and all device IDs. I am not specifying specific
source or destination formats because I'd have to do one for all of them.
I'd hope not to have to do that. The next line follows these instructions:

# $FILE$ is the absolute path to the local source file
# $URL$ is the full URL for remote streams
# [bin] is the executable binary for the encoder or decoder
# - is a special command line that implies passthrough of data

I used $FILE$ because that's in the example (that I show) to force mp3
transcoding to a specific MAC.

Am I on the right path? I can say that music plays (well, the stream I'm
using at present plays). So at the least putting this in the
custom-convert.conf file didn't break anything.

Maybe you could describe what you want to archive - play one channel on
one player, or down-mix stereo to mono (and then do what with it)?
If it's the former, LMS can do it out of the box
(settings>player>audio>Output Channel Mode), if it's the latter, the
aforementioned sox or ALSA methods may work.

Apesbrain,

I'd found the "sox remix -" CLI option. I assumed (!) that it should be
used with a SqueezeLite configuration but I could not see where to use it
(had tried messing with /etc/asound.conf but that didn't work). You suggest
using it as an option in the LMS config by adding a section to the LMS
custom-convert.conf file! Will give it a go if I can figure out how the
custom-convert.conf file syntax works.

Thanks.

I installed MusicIP on my Pi4 using the instructions posted here

My post at the end of the thread details a couple of changes I had to
make.

Bear in mind that all your tracks need to be fingerprinted by MusicIP
and it is recommended to do this on a PC and not on the Pi. The same
version of MusicIP should be installed on the machine used for
fingerprinting as on the Pi. It might be worth trying to fingerprint
some tracks before doing anything else.

It means nothing. Everyone will see that warning at every scan.

I used it for Max2Play based on Raspbian Stretch but have not tried the

If you get this working a simple step-by-step guide would be greatly
appreciated. Never used MusicIP or Sugarcube, and I'm very interested in
seeing what these can provide and having them (do I need both?) running
on my Pi4.

Not sure if this helps, but... I'm pretty sure that SqueezeCtrl uses
'SlimBrowse' to retrieve artist, albums, and genre listings. It probably
then also uses the associated commands in these list responses for the
add-all/play-all buttons. For Material I wanted more control over these
lists - more metadata, and option to change sorting, etc. So, for these
I use the JSONRPC "albums", "artists", "genres", etc. commands. I then
manually construct the add-all/play-all commands - and I add the
appropriate artist_id and genre_id elements to the commands - which is
why only tracks matching a genre will be added.

Deal with one problem at a time.

Enable scanner logging - WebUI Settings/ Advanced/Logging scan.scanner
scan.auto to INFO

Note start time.
do a "clear library & rescan everything"
note time when scan finished.

Look in scanner log (WebUI Setting/Information) between start and end
time and see if any more info is provided about the deleted file issue.

Perhaps you have a file/permission errors and the same file cannot be
deleted and so causes the same error every time. Hopefully the log may
show up more details so problem can be identified.

Mmh, cleaning cache and a full rescan did not make a difference, I was
hoping that cleaning the cache would solve it.
