This is bound to be a bit confusing, but "aptitude" is not the same
thing as "apt."

Since you have already used dpkg and the new version was installed, but
not configured, I suggest you just run this command:

Code:

sudo apt-get install -f

(Note: that's "apt-get," not "apt" or "aptitude"!)

The apt-get command is largely deprecated, now that "apt" is available,
But that version of the command should fix a broken installation, if the
dependencies are available. That's the way I installed the new beta of
LMS 8.4.

You mentioned earlier, "I might have to update my Raspberry some time in
the near future." What OS version is it currently running, and do you
regularly update packages?

Usually running latest beta LMS nightly on Raspberry Pi OS with virtual
players (Squeezelite and Airplay bridge). Occasionally using SB Radio,
Boom or Classic.

I see Paul has responded to your question

Here are the two links I sorted for you

https://linuxhint.com/ubuntu_dpkg_installation/

and

https://itsfoss.com/apt-get-linux-guide/

It's been so long since I used dpkg that I had forgotten the command to
repair a broken install

Code:

sudo apt -f install

a quick look on t'inernet suggests

Code:

  sudo apt-get install --reinstall logitechmediaserver_8.3.0_arm.deb

Might work, it you have not yet deleted the download, but don't take it
for gospel, I have to research a lot of stuff :)

I admit, I didn't try your way of installation, because my currently
installed version 8.3.0 runs and I don't want to change a running
system.

But I downloaded the 8.3.1 files you pointed to and they files are
identical (beside the indicated plugin update). So why should your way
of installing solve my dependency problem? I'm not an installation
expert so I try to learn and understand.

If I press the 'Start Server' button, it goes through the same looping

The Mac's firewall is off. Do I need to allow any extra ports in my

allow 49250 - 49255 (TCP/UDP)

Hi, sorry for not following this up, other stuff intervened
I am really confused as the LMS used to see the NAS drives ok, I have
changed nothing in the settings - this only came about due to a
scheduled rescan for updates. Windows sees the NAS drives and their
contents ok, so does everything else on the network (TV etc).
Is there a different way of installing the NAS drives so that the LMS
can recognize them? They currently look like \\diskstation\Music2\Albums
for example as a network drive. If I enetr that manually in the LMS as a
media folder it won't recognize it

The legacy version gives the following information:

I've attached the relevant server logs for 'release' and 'legacy'. Do
they help? Do you need anything else from me?

Thanks,

I think you should try putting the files onto the QNAP using WinSCP
instead of Windows then check and change the permissions as necessary,
rescan and see if LMS can find them.
Also try different versions - flc, mp3 etc

This is worth fixing, you have a lot of 10cc in your library :). One of
my fav's...

I have never owned a NAS and know nothing about them, but, as a test, if
they have a USB port, put the music on a USB stick, and see if you can
browse to it? That would least isolate it to the troublesome drive (and
perhaps attributes?) or the whole NAS itself.

As @slarti pointed out, if you can't browse to it, LMS won't find it to
scan it.

This issue (scan cannot find music) has come up a lot, for example with
picopreplayer and attached older USB drives (dug out of the closet :)).
Sometimes it's the power to the drive, etc. But most times it's reported
that "it works when attached to the PC". You reallly can't come to a
conclusion based on that, it's not apples to apples.

I don't know anything about your NAS, or how LMS connects to it. But, in
general, '0770' permissions on a file or a directory will prevent
"world" (i.e. third party) access. Might "permissions' be the root of
the problem ?

It sounds as if the problem is limited to some new folders that you have
recently added. Are there some steps still required on the NAS to make
them world/LMS readable ?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 8.3.0 released

2022-11-05 Thread tw99

In case it helps others, upgrading from an older 8.2.1 nightly on arm
Debian buster, I had to install an additional dependency:
libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl

Unfortunately only one NAS I'm afraid - rebooted, rescanned several
times. At a complete loss despite everyones suggestions. Fairly
comprehensive library and all albums accessible and playable except
several new albums added over recent weeks. I'm loathe to rely Windows
10 version of LMS(which accesses and plays everything), as copying
folders from NAS to Windows PC has reduced my storage space dramatically
and means my PC has to run to listen to my music. From my perspective,
it almost makes my QNAP redundant and reduces it to a back up drive.

Something has obviously changed on the NAS, but I don't know what or
when, despite following everyone's suggestions. It's driving me to
distraction
