Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Media scanner not scanning albums correctly
Hi, I have a similar issue, I've just updated from LMS 7.9 to 8.2 due to a hard drive failure on my QNAP (I'm using QLogitechMediaServer). Before this my albums were fine and presented as a single album, since the upgrade they are now split out as multiple albums of the same name. I have tripled checked my Group Album Server Setting and it's correct. This is only affecting albums separated into multiple underlying folders (disc1 / disc2, etc). When I move the files into the same single folder, the scanner then presents a single album and when clicked in shows the track listing correctly even showing it is multiple discs. So it seems the scanner behavior has changed to not recognise albums with tracks split across multiple sub folders? snoopstaa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22701 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114080 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Robert, In my research using Google (for mp3tag function) I noticed some people say that using COMPILATION results in an item in their album list called Various under which LSM puts the albums which using COMPILATION. I see that after every rescan the number of albums changes but in rather dubious way. The increase or sometimes decrease in number of albums does not correlate to the added number of albums at all. I do not think that we should trust this number of albums, provided as an info by LMS. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Media scanner not scanning albums correctly
First, thanks to each of you who responded to my original post about this topic. slartibartfast's comment about Disc number seemed to me correct (why, after all, have such a tag if not for this reason) so I re-tagged files so that CDs are indicated with a Disc number. On rescan many of them now "appear" correctly, but some 40 operas are like the following. Here is the Sawallisch Ring, one folder for the whole ring, separate folders for each CD of the four operas: 33778 Here is what they look like in mp3tag, screen shot shows CDs 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 (parts of 2 and 6), showing they do have correct Disk numbers (which is true also for the discs/tracks not shown): 33779 There are no odd Extended tags: 33780 Yet, here is what these operas look like in LMS :-( 33781 I note there is a second opera in this screen cap, the Turandot, that is also a multi-CD opera, tracks in separate folders, yet with Disc number set "correctly" in mp3tag, that is showing as two items in the list rather than a single Album Is there no way to defeat this behavior? I have a LOT of opera, nearly all of which are multiple CDs (I have 13 recordings of the complete Ring cycle and only four of them do not exhibit the behavior I describe above). It seems bad that I should have to move all of the audio files into the same folder (especially for the Ring cycle where the total tracks exceed 100) for doing this requires renaming the tracks/files so that they indicate which opera they are part of (Das Rheingold, etc.) and their ordering. mp3tag makes doing this kind of editing easier, but it is still very time-consuming. Some collectors have multiple copies of the same > (remastered, ripped from vinyl, whatever). BINGO! I have systematically taken all files in subfolders of an album and uniquely renamed them and moved them so that they are in a single folder named with the album name. For example: Album: Wagner - RotN - Bayreuth - 1970 - Stein First two tracks (of 149 <-- lots of renaming!!): "Wagner - RotN - 01 - Rheingold - 01. Vorpsiel.flac" "Wagner - RotN - 01 - Rheingold - 02. Weia! Waga! Woge, du Welle.flac" On a Library rescan, these 149 tracks now show as a single Album item and not as previously, as a set of 12 items all with the same album name, the 149 tracks in them. What this actually is: a zip of Richard Wagner's Ring of the Nibelungen, which comprises 12 CDs. The ripping software rips each CD to a folder, with tracks in it. The LMS scanning software treats each folder as an individual album item even though the Album of each track is the same across all 12 CDs. I've done the same with another five albums (one of another Ring recording and several other Wagner operas) and on recan all now show as I expect them -- as a single Album. So, a bit of renaming work to get things as I want, but I understand now how the LMS scanning works now and I know what to do. gstalnaker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63504 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114080 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Media scanner not scanning albums correctly
Michael, Thanks! That may be it. I'm working to get tracks in single folders rather than in nested subfolders. I think this may be why my opera albums of Wagner's four Ring operas end up as they do. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Media scanner not scanning albums correctly
Have you tried using mp3tag's View -> Extended Tags option? This was a revelation to me when I discovered it a few years ago. There can be so much unwanted junk tagged away which you never see in the main interface - these days I happily blow away all the tags I don't want. You may well have nothing there if these are files you've ripped and tagged yourself - but you never know what automated tagging may have been applied by your tools. In the end, though, a music library tool can only present its own interpretation of the tags used in your files. And I've certainly seen some software giving quite different views of my own library. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Media scanner not scanning albums correctly
Thanks everyone. Though the example screencap is for a "created" album (sort of a modern mix tape), the issue applies to other albums I have. But you've all given me ideas I can explore. I'll see what mp3tag can tell me. I think ** I ** may be the cause as I have a rather particular tagging scheme I want for my classical/choral/opera albums and thus I use mp3tag to impose this scheme for any newly ripped album before I add it to my LMS library (that is, I do not blindly use musicbrainz/freedb, especially for classical/choral/opera as the tags are frequently quite incorrect). I only use the "normal" set of tags: Title, Album, Artist, Track, Disc, Year, Genre, AlbumArtist, Composer, Comment (the default set exposed by mp3tag's UI). To my knowledge I've not touched any other tag so did not think to "review" them as part of my workflow. I will now review them. Regards. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Media scanner not scanning albums correctly
Can anyone tell me why my LMS v8, even after a complete rescan this afternoon (it did this before the rescan by the way), shows some albums as if they are not albums but individual tracks? Like this (an "album" with 40+ tracks, different artists and NO year, but all in the same album): 33650 I cannot see in mp3tag why the LMS scanner is doing this. mp3tag shows this as a single album with 40+ tracks. And it's not the only album shown like this either. I have multiple opera recordings where the album name is the same for all tracks, but LMS displays them as individual items in Genre - Album view. And it's not Material either - the default skin shows the same. It's something that the LMS tag scanner is doing. It's really baffling. Thanks. +---+ |Filename: LMS_Screenshot_20210304_012903.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33650| +---+ gstalnaker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63504 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114080 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
