Tag, Thanks for the enlightenment. "I say, proper cylinders" as the Queen would say-"That's real proper like" as Jim Bragg would say!!! Geoff. If you have 45mm and 32mm dual gauge you can run "N", 9mm, on the narrow gauge. Robb in MI ||<--Ga 1->|| ||<-- O >||<--N--->|| ||<--Ga 1->||<-HO->|| ||<--Ga 2---||->||

Pete, Great thinking--very interesting! So now I assume you will be ordering the Hornby live steam since you have "track in place"! You caused me to measure my 4-3/4--3-1/2" but since I was generous with the 3-1/2" track to accomodate the Britannia I only have 30mm--or I would be good for 32mm for my friends' N.G 7/8" scale locos. Well, I have lots of HO track, so what is my excuse!--order 2 On the other hand we could all lay an extra rail on our 45mm track for gauge 2 and HO it would serve a dual purpose--'Triple gauge"--sort of!! Geoff ... Bob, Thanks! A unique concept if you ask me. Having the "boiler" and heating in the tender allows for room in the locomotive boiler space for cylinder or cylinders. I suspect they use an oscillator- or oscillators. Well, my first loco was an O gauge Hornby c/w in 1930--so I guess I'll be on the corner begging for pounds sterling to get this Hornby set!! Yes, looked at the website love the Mallard engine and live steam also. Only need to come up with about 750 USD. Just to be pedantic, the scale is "00" - 4mm/ft running on 16.5mm track, the same gauge as HO at 3.5mm/ft. I know a man who knows a man who has seen it running and it really is quite impressive. As the cylinder bore must be extremely small (3/16" perhaps?) it might prove a bit of a handful to control running light, but with 10 or 12 Pullmans behind it, it should be quite a sight. My local dealer has ordered some for Christmas delivery and they're already all sold. I believe the price is about UKP500. Mike

Interesting, I've heard of steam locomotives being built by hobbyists as small as N gauge, but I've never heard of one going into production and actually being manufactured.
