It's been in the kernel for a long while now. It is as effective as the hardware fix, possibly more so. With a favourable satellite constellation I get ~40s TTFF from cold, even with SD activity. Any recent distro should have it. With FSO/SHR you might see problems related to loading almanac, ephemeris and time when powering up the GPS. The docs suggest that even with incorrect or outdated data the TTFF should be no worse than an unaided start, but in practise it seems that it can cause significant delays. Some versions of ogpsd have had significant problems in this respect. Make sure your time and timezone are set correctly as this can slow things down too. > 2. Thanks. I actually hope to get wifi working, since wifi here is more likely to be evidence that wifi will work in Israel, while gprs may be harder. TangoGPS works great (as long as your clock is correctly set, including timezone) and phone functions work acceptably well. Wifi seems broken in the most recent (Jan29 IIRC) images, hoping that is resolved again soon. "notepad" - there're a handful of simple text editors around, I can't suggest one offhand. I've not yet managed to get navit working with SHR-unstable though, so GPS location and mapping works but maybe not directions. Openvpn works fine, but doesn't cover the same scenarios as vpnc... I've not seen vpnc for the FR yet. So I cross-compiled it a few minutes ago (from svn) and it seems to run on my FR, but I've nothing handy to test it against. If someone wants to do so, I stuffed the config and binaries in a tarball at http://newkirk.us/om/vpnc.tar.gz - it depends on libgcrypt, shouldn't need anything else. The only alterations required were commenting out "CC=gcc" and "./makeman.pl" in the makefile (no man on FR anyway) and "opkg-target install libgcrypt libgcrypt-dev". j -- Joel Newkirk http://jthinks.com (blog) http://newkirk.us/om (FR stuff) ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support

I finally received my Freerunner and it's been exciting. I am trying to use the Freerunner as my primary phone. My First goal is to start with a stable phone distro. One where I can make/receive calls, send and receive text messages. The Qtopia build seems to be OK, however, there is that echo issue. Qtopia does seem to be removed from a lot of the feature developments for the FreeRunner. I have tried a couple of the distros out there and the Qtopia one seems to be the most stable. I was wondering, which distros have the Echo bug resolved? Also, is the debian distro stable? I am a debian/kubuntu user so I definitely would like to use debian provided it can provide a stable phone for me. I need to buy a new sd card from the sound of it though.
