Afternoon, I am doing some testing with your pidgin application with our company's Jabber system. I'm able to authenticate, communicate, and transfer files. However, it will not change my presence settings. It will show I am set away but other people still see me as available. Can you be of some assistance? Trillian with Pidgin
Hi there, I LOVE pidgin and would like to continue to use it. I currently use it with AIM but with AIM going away, most of my contacts are moving to trillian. Window Docking / Maximize Issue
Is there an open ticket for window docking / maximize issues? When Pidgin is open it is effecting other applications by not allowing them to maximize to the full resolution of the monitory occupied by Pidgin. Even if Pidgin is minimized, the other applications will not be allowed to maximize to the full resolution of the monitor. Only if Pidgin is closed will the other applications be allowed to maximize to the full monitor resolution. Version 2.10.9 (libpurple 2.10.9) running on Windows 8.1. Need absolutely get my attention notifications
I need some more emphatic notifications of new messages in a minimized or background Pidgin. Current notifications flash the icon a few times, then give up. I need a notification that can not be missed, and can only be ignored by deliberate decision to ignore it. I've searched the mailing list, pidgin.im wiki, and help files, and haven't found anything that does this. I already have the Message Notification plugin enabled, with Raise conversation window and Present conversation window checked. It doesn't do what those words seem to say. I also have New messages checked on the Libnotify popups plugin. New messages arrive in existing chats, new chats start from people desperately trying to get my attention, but the Pidgin window stays hidden behind my web browser. PIDGIN virus (omg IS THIS REALLY YOUR PIC?)
Could it simply be a virus/trojan/worm that's designed to send messages using the IM URIs (like aim:, etc.) - and if Pidgin's set to handle those URIs, it's used to send the messages? Need strong notification of new messages
I've been using Pidgin for a while, and I think it's the best IM client out there, but there's one feature I really need: Un-missable notification of new messages in a chat window -- Get my attention, NOW! Ideally, bring the conversation window to the front, or pop up a (large) notification that never goes away until it is manually dismissed. Is there any way to do this? This is becoming a critical issue for me. I already have the Message Notification plugin enabled, with Raise conversation window and Present conversation window checked. It doesn't do what those words seem to say. I also have New messages checked on the Libnotify popups plugin. This is on Ubuntu Oneric with the Unity window manager, Pidgin 2.10.0. We use XMPP/Jabber at work, and I have a groupchat window open at all times, for communication with other members of the team scattered around the country. But as I'm working on various things, that window sinks to the bottom of the stack, and important communications get ignored for far too long. Audible notifications aren't an option. Hello, I am trying to use Pidgin for the first time and cannot connect with a friend. I have tried added my windows live messenger and also my yahoo.com ID's. Their ID shows as msn/n...@yahoo.co.uk. I get various errors at times. unable to add buddy to server list is one. When I am able to add my yahoo account, the person can send me a message and see I am online. I can see they are online but my messages are not being received by them. When I 'im' them, a window opens with my messages on my computer, but they see nothing. Any idea why not? Disable Rollover Contact Details in Buddy list window
Hello, I am using version 2.7.9 on Windows 7. There is a feature where if you mouse over a contact in the buddy list a window pops up and shows the contacts details. I would like to disable this feature. Does anyone know how I can go about accomplishing that? I need help
I’m Oracle user and we’re using our pidgin. I’ve the problem bec’ I can’t see my on-line colleagues in my list. What I’ve to do is I’ve to show all off-line colleagues. Facebook XMPP with Pidgin
When I set up Pidgin to use Facebook's XMPP chat, pidgin always asks for plaintext authentication, saying it requires this over an unencrypted connection. if I click no, it will ask again. if I click yes, I get an error at the bottom of pidgin saying disconnected 503, service unavailable. can someone please assist me in setting up pidgin to use facebook chat? ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Guys: I was an original Beta tester for AppleLink in 1988 and have hated AOL ever since, I've tried to avoid it as much as possible. Unfortunately, I have some IM traffic I need to conduct so I'm trying to connect Pidgin to a new AOL account I'm setting up. Pounces in IRC aren't triggered
Hi all, while pounces work nicely on several other IM protocols with Pidgin 2.6.5/Ubuntu for me, none of them is triggered on IRC. I've configured a pounce using the accountn...@irc.freenode.net (IRC) in the Account: field, and have entered a chat room participant's nick into the Buddy name: field. Then I checked every single check box under Pounce when Buddy... and checked Execute a command and entered the full path to a script there (which works fine on other protocols). Also, Recurring is checked. Is there a known issue with IRC and pounces or am I doing something wrong? I'm not the brightest person in Ubuntu, but I'm having troubles that I hope you can help with. I just got my Mini 10 with Ubuntu from Dell. I was having problems with the update manager not working. We fixed the problem, but I found my Pidgin button was missing from the applications tab. I went on-line and found a suggested fix in the synaptic package manager. I did the search as instructed, and didn't find Pidgin. I then went on-line and downloaded Pidgin. I got the program working, but it appears to be an older version or something. I put in both my Yahoo Messenger addresses and tried to log in. It gives me two error boxes. One says that it wasn't able to log in and the other says I have an older version that is not supported. In any event, i just want my Pidgin back. I promise to feed it and care for it if you can please get it back to me. How do I get the most current version and get it working? I have a htc magic running the android os. I'm trying to connect up with an internal messenger system we have at my work which we all use pidgin on our laptops to connect to it. Private, Permanent Chat Room
I am part of a group that has an online chat room. The moderators aggressively control the benign content of the room. We would like to set up a private chat room with a permanent URL. What services are available that do not require a particular email address to become a member, like Google, AOL, and Yahoo? A reasonable annual fee for such a service would be fine. If I can find that source, I'm going to advocate that each member use Pidgin to access the group. There are plenty of chat rooms with web interfaces, but the ones I found require a separate web page interface for user authentication. Since I don't know how to create separate web pages, that option is not very helpful. The members use Windows, Mac, and Linux. Hi, My invisibility status doesn't work for Gtalk on Windows vs. 2.62. Multiparty Chat
I subscribed to this list to learn more about Pidgin so that I could ask intelligent questions, but most of the discussions are about topics that far exceed my understanding of Pidgin's capabilities. Currently, a number of people in my group chat on a BBS using the site's internal flash client. Not only does the board require a monthly or annual subscription that is too expensive, but also the moderators are getting extremely restrictive in what can be chatted. Therefore, I want to set up a chat room that requires a login to access (membership required, but not paid membership.) Some people would want to use a web interface, but I would want to use Pidgin, as some others probably would. Can you recommend a service to host the chat? Is there software that I can install on my cPanel-hosted shared server account? Pidgin is my current IM client for AOL and Yahoo, but it is amazing to see how much more it can do. Logging Conversations
When I was using GAIM, I had it configured so that when I closed GAIM and came back later, the previous conversations were still viewable in the upper window. Pidgin is not doing that even though I have logging turned on. What am I missing? Also, how do I configure Pidgin to participate in the #pidgin IRC chat channel? Since the settings and all were not imported from GAIM when I started (all I get on Pidgin startup is a prompt to set up accounts), I presume that the .pet file (Puppy Linux' distribution file) simply dumped the program files into the appropriate places and did not run an install routine. So I'm back to where I started. The program is in place, but no data has been copied/converted/moved/whatever from GAIM. In a regular Pidgin install routine, would the files simply be copied from .gaim to .pidgin? I note that there is presently a /root/.gaim directory but not a /root/.pidgin directory. I'm presuming that I will need to move the data over manually, but don't know if importing is a simple drag-and-drop or if there is a file format conversion involved. Where do I go from here? If someone's able and willing to walk me thru the process off-list, I'd appreciate it. I have AIM, Y!M and MSN accounts so we could talk thru any of them. Sending one msg. to users listed in a single group
Is this possible? I've created a group called 'Treatment'. I right clicked on 'buddies' entered individually and moved them to the group I created. Upgrading from GAIM
I've been using GAIM 1.5.0 for some time (it came with my copy of Puppy Linux) and have been quite content with it. Up until now, I've seen no reason to upgrade to Pidgin. I am presently running Puppy Linux 3.01. Now there's a reason. I'm getting messages from Yahoo! that support (I presume protocol support) for the Yahoo! Messenger (hee hee hee) I'm using expires August 15. I'm presuming Pidgin will take me back into the supported realm, and have installed it. However, I've not seen any notes on how to make moving to Pidgin an actual upgrade in the sense of my accounts, settings, logs and such from GAIM being imported into Pidgin. May I simply drag-n-drop my GAIM data directories' content into the corresponding Pidgin data directories, or is more required? Are there things that have changed so much (such as the settings files) that I cannot simply use the GAIM files, but have to set it up from scratch? Any help along this line will be appreciated. Removing Buddies
I removed the offline group from the original aim buddies list. I'm not quite sure how to get it back, I've tried simply adding the offline group but nothing happens. There are quite a few users that I do not talk to anymore that I cannot see on my list and can't simply right click and remove. I guess it's not that big of a deal but every time i mess up on an aim address I've added that to my buddy list. Just wondering if you knew any other way to remove buddies from your list. connection problem with Yahoo
Does anyone know of a problem with yahoo today? I can connect fine to MSN AIM, and people in my office are connected to Yahoo fine if they use Yahoo Messenger, so I don't think it's a change in my office's network. Nevermind, it must have been my office network after all. I changed my Pidgin proxy settings from Use Global.. to Use Environmental.. and I'm connected. Same fix worked for other Pidgin users in the office. SameTime missing with PIdgin 2.4+meanwhile
Hi, I'm running: meanwhile-1.0.2-5.el5 pidgin-2.4.0-0.el5 And my SameTime account is showing up as unknown. I also don't see SameTime listed as an option for new accounts in the drop down menu. Do I need to relink a library? I tried grep'in the list and didn't see anything. Thanks... Accounts blown away?
Hi, I had to restart my machine since it got into a funky state (not because of Pidgin), and now seems Pidgin can't find my accounts anymore! It's as if I've just launched Pidgin for the first time.
