Responding again. GTDInbox doesn't seem to work with Seamonkey, only

Unfortunately, no. I have to see what the interfaces do to know if it's

Upgrading with a non-standard profile location

2010-02-15 Thread John
I'm running Windows XP SP3. I'm planning to upgrade from SeaMonkey v1.18
to SeaMonkey v2.02 as soon as I am sure how to successfully do so.

I currently have two profiles for SeaMonkey v1.18. One is in the default
standard location, but it is not the one I use. My primary profile is in
a non-standard location, in a dedicated Data partition which is not on
my C: drive. This profile includes a very large amount of email, over
10,000 messages, which it is vital that I not lose.

I've read a few reports of upgrade difficulties when there is a large
email folder, and I suspect having my profile in a non-standard location
may also complicate things. Other than backing up my profile, what other
things do I need to do/know to do this upgrade successfully? Thanks!

Yep. Didn't figured we needed 40 copies of it, as most other Google
Apps users likely also already saw it.

Anyhow, I don't think it means anything for SM 2.0.x users. Google had
announce last week that they were dropping IE support.

So I'm assuming, then that SM 2.x has support for all the same
technologies that Firefox 3.x has, that Google Apps claims they will be
using... Anyone working to get SeaMonkey 2.x mentioned in the same
breaths as Firefox 3.x? Maybe I should ask that question via Google

Since support is also being dropped for FF 2.0.x, I would suspect that
there may be a problem for SM 1.1.x users.

I suspect so.

That's because the browser has all your history. The point of my post
was that the References header doesn't always have all of a post's
antecedents' mids. (But I don't know if that's why you don't get the
kind of view you want or not.)

There aren't guidelines about which mids get dropped. There's no
guarantee that the six immediate antecedents' mids are available in the
References header.

Going forward is even trickier, unless the client has indexed the posts
so that there's a database containing a post's children as well. Even
so, threads branch, so moving down them isn't nearly as simple as
moving up them.

Dear Google Apps admin,

In order to continue to improve our products and deliver more
sophisticated features and performance, we are harnessing some of the
latest improvements in web browser technology. This includes faster
JavaScript processing and new standards like HTML5. As a result, over
the course of 2010, we will be phasing out support for Microsoft
Internet Explorer 6.0 as well as other older browsers that are not
supported by their own manufacturers.

We plan to begin phasing out support of these older browsers on the
Google Docs suite and the Google Sites editor on March 1, 2010. After
that point, certain functionality within these applications may have
higher latency and may not work correctly in these older browsers. Later
in 2010, we will start to phase out support for these browsers for
Google Mail and Google Calendar.

Google Apps will continue to support Internet Explorer 7.0 and above,
Firefox 3.0 and above, Google Chrome 4.0 and above, and Safari 3.0 and
above.

Starting this week, users on these older browsers will see a message in
Google Docs and the Google Sites editor explaining this change and
asking them to upgrade their browser. We will also alert you again
closer to March 1 to remind you of this change.

In 2009, the Google Apps team delivered more than 100 improvements to
enhance your product experience. We are aiming to beat that in 2010 and
continue to deliver the best and most innovative collaboration products
for businesses.

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

The Google Apps team

In my SM 2.0.2, when looking at this group (and, I guess, other
groups as well), the header area of messages has a line called
"References" which lets you click on the reference number to go back
one, two, or several levels at once.

In some of the threads here, the number of levels can get large, e.g.
the thread called "Goodbye Seamonkey" gets close to thirty levels in
some branches.

However the reference number does not increase beyond 21, i.e. the
22nd msg has refs 1 to 21, the 23rd msg has refs 1 to 21, the 24th
has..

Is there some setting that limits the reference string to 1 to 21??
Can it be changed to allow 2 to 22, 3 to 23, 43 to 63, etc to be
displayed??

When the References header becomes large enough, some clients start
removing some of the message-ids from it, but what you describe should
never happen. The 23rd message in a branch should at least have the
mid of the OP and the mid of its parent (the 22nd message). Some of
the mids in between may be dropped.

Why ever drop any mids? A line of a message sent via NNTP can't be more
than 1000 characters (998 plus the CR/LF). To stay within that limit,
clients that put the entire References header on one line have to throw
away some mids once there are too many of them.

If some have been dropped, there's no way to get to them from the
current message -- you'd have to go back up the thread to a post that
still has them in its References header.

There is a better solution, header "folding", which allows a header to
span multiple lines. Until TB/SM implement that, they're going to have
to keep throwing away mids when References gets too big.

Example of folding:

SM/TB actually have a bug that prevents them from handling folded
headers correctly -- when they unfold the headers, they leave a lot of
whitespace that shouldn't be there. Example:
.  (At least one
other client's author has had to update his code to deal with those bad
headers SM/TB sends.)

Q, in the browser window, after a days browsing, you could go to the
Back Buttons Drop Down and, at a hop, go back up to ten or a dozen
pages, and then go back another ten or a dozen pages, and then go
backwell, I'm sure you get my point.

On those few occasions when a thread goes on and on, a similar set up
would be o.j if I'm 46 messages deep in a thread, maybe across the
top SM could show "40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45" and then when I select
message 40, across it's top it could show "30, 31, 32, 39, 40", etc,
so I could go all the way back in several steps.

As I have my SM set up as "View, Sort, Threaded", I can just as easily
click up the thread in the messages pane, but for others that may be set
up unthreaded, having this means of going back, and forward, could be
useful.

Several times, over the years, I have suggested that there *SHOULD*
be a clickable link as part of the Mail& Newsgroup splash screen,

The alteration would have to happen in
"chrome://messenger/content/start.xhtml" but I don't know how to do
it.

If you ask how to do it for yourself only:
1. Go to your SeaMonkey install directory
2. Open chrome/messenger.jar with a ZIP program (e.g. 7-Zip)
3. Edit content/messenger/start.xhtml
(
4. Open chrome/en-US.jar with a ZIP program
5. Edit en-US/messenger/start.dtd
)
Your changes will be overwritten whenever you update SM.

If you ask how to do it for everyone:
1. File a
bug
2. Describe exactly what you propose
3. Find someone to implement it
4. Get the module owner (Karsten) to accept it

Yes, Jens, you are right, I should put it in through Bugzilla.and if
I can remember my password, I will!!

On the given page ...
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=SeaMonkey
... you have the possibility to retrieve/create a new password based on
your email adress: it's written:
"If you have an account, but have forgotten your password, enter your
e-mail address below and submit a request to change your password."

Ray, I've got myself in a messfirst time I wasn't sure of my
password, tried several, until bugzilla barred me, then I located my
real password and tried to retrieve/create my password, but, because I
was barred, I cannot even change my password, so now I guess I'll have
to make a new profile.

Andrea, Phillip's message, in which he claims New Windows are ten times

So, you are referring to this [1] message.
Well, by reading that message (ALL the message, even the quoted text)
it's clear to any reasonable person that Philip Jones statement about
SeaMonkey being ten times faster than before is about opening links in
the *same window* as opposed to opening them in *new windows* ("as it
did before").
If you still cannot understand it, even after re-reading that message, I
give up trying to explain the obvious.

[1]

Andrea, are we talking about the same thing??

Two situations. Whilst you are reading here, you also have your browser
open set to whatever your home page may be. You then click on the above
link to make sure it is the right message.

In one situation, the groups.google page opens in a Tab of your browser,
sharing the browser with your homepage. In the other situation, a second
browser opens to display the groups.google all on its own.

One browser window with two tabs open or two browser windows each with
one tab open.

Upcoming Thunderbird testing activities

2010-02-15 Thread Ludovic Hirlimann
Thunderbird, Seamonkey, Calendar, users come and participate to our
testing activities, this is the easier way to push the product you use
and care for forward.

We'll be having two releases in the coming weeks, and are organizing a
few testing relates event.

The first release we are going to work on is 3.0.2, this should start
this week as only one patch is missing from the release. This release is
focused on bug fixes and on making sure that people updating from 2.x,
still can send emails and access their emails properly. That Release
doesn't bring any new features. Testing is going to be strait forward.
What I need from those of you using 3.0 or 3.0.1 is to update to
3.0.2pre as soon as possible
(http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1/)
and use it for the coming week or so. I'm also looking for one Linux
user to do some smoke-testing on the beta builds. I'll send an email
when the beta builds becomes available.

The second release is going to be Lanikai 3.1b1 - As I wrote previously,
usage on that branch is low - so we're going to have two activities,
we'll be having a testday. We'll use that testday to make sure the
refinements that are getting here are there. These should be mostly UI
related (Activity manager receiving some, search some too) - with a few
backend change. While a test day is good to test the new features and
polish in b1. It's not enough so I'm looking for volunteers to work on a
complete test using litmus. These are the areas that need to be tested :

* Install, shutdown, uninstall
* Folder Views
* Migration
* Updating Thunderbird
* Import
* Window configuration
* Toolbars and menus
* Account settings & Preferences (Options)
* IMAP accounts
* POP accounts (exclude Global Inbox)
* Gmail Accounts
* .Mac accounts
* Global inbox
* Mail composition
* Spell checker
* RSS account & subscriptions
* Newsgroups
* Message Aging
* Navigating and displaying messages
* Downloading and saving
* Image blocking
* Return receipts
* Proxies
* Offline, disk space
* Moving, copying, deleting messages
* Views and labeling messages
* Message filters
* Message search
* Address search
* Virtual folders
* Message Grouping
* Quicksearch
* Address books
* Junk mail
* Extensions
* Theme management
* Help
* Printing
* Master Passwords & password management
* Phishing, spoof detection
* Secure connections
* Digital signing, encrypting messages
* Software Update
* Find as you type (FAYT)/Quickfind
* Windows Search and Spotlight integration

Like I did in the past, can you send me a private email, telling me on
which os you would use to participate and three areas you would like to
test ( I suggest that you make your choice in that way , 1st area
something you care about and are eager to test, 2 area something you can
easily test, 3rd something you never used before ) so I can organize
things. The last two times this worked pretty well - except for some
people ending up testing things they didn't care about. So i'm trying
to make this better by letting you choose before hand. I still need to
aim for 100% coverage so you still might end up testing areas you didn't
ask for.

I'll be away the week the testing is going on (I had scheduled to visit
Denmark that week - before we changed a few things in the schedule), so
the person you'll be able to talk to and who will do the final
coordination will be Wayne Mery.
