Hi.

never saw this in any 1.x version.

I'm on 32-bit Windows Vista SP2 running on an HP notebook with the AMD
Turion dual-core chip, 3 MB RAM.

After about 8 hours of use, suddenly the browser stops working in a
curious way - clicking on a bookmark or an embedded URL silently
presents a blank page, no complaints, just no pages will display.

Email continues to work, until I close all Seamonkey instances while
trying to fix the problem.

What happens then is Seamonkey pops up a box that complains it is
already running, and to close that Seamonkey before trying to run.

But there are no visible instances of Seamonkey running.

Going to the Task Manager, I see an instance of Seamonkey IS
running. So
I kill it in Task Manager.
Then I kill it again.
Then I kill it again ... etc. etc.

The Seamonkey process is unkillable.

I have to at this point re-boot before the browser starts working
again.

What can I do to help get this fixed? There is no crash report because
Seamonkey is unaware it's munged and unreachable.

Help!

Pat,

Download System Exployer:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx

You CAN kill the unkillable. You may also verify files, track their
paths, and
also it's used for stacking logs and debugging.

It's a wonderful little program I've used for a few years now.

oh and there's no cost.

Umm, no joy.

Unkillable Seamonkey is still unkillable.

The sysinternals are just for the most part front-ends to primitives -
and the kill functions call the same kill function that the Task
Manager does.

So the only way to get back the browser is to re-boot. How very 1995
of the developers.

BTW, I'm on 2.0.3 - same problem, the browser dies silently, and if
you end out of all the instances of Seamonkey you are left with an
absolutely un-killable version of Seamonkey still in the process list.

I also am running SM 2.0.3 and have no problem going into the task
manager an killing Seamonkey if I desire, but I have ended out of all
the instances of Seamonkey and it is GONE. I have very few problems with
SM 2.0.3 and like it very much. Perhaps an extension?

I'm on Vista, and I think you are running XP from your header. Different
ballpark as it were.

I think I'll give the latest Opera a look, I'm tired of re-booting.

-Why is it that I cannot find any information about the Go button

conclusion about the source of my problem--possibly a corrupt profile or
an error in the 2.0.3 software download.

Frog, I seem to remember, at one time, somewhere here, you mentioned
that you copied your profile from an old back-up. Might this have been
from a CD?? If so, the files copied from CD's may have been marked as
Read-Only, which might explain why you are getting these results.

Close All versions of SeaMonkey and if you have the SM quick start
icon down near the Start button turn it off as well.

Now open you Windows File Manager and go to the profile that you are
having troubles with and right click on the inbox file and have a look
at its properties to see if it is marked as Read-Only.

If it is, un-check it and do likewise for the other files in the
profile, then go up a level and check and un-check those files, and go
up a leveluntil you reach a level where they are not marked as
Read-Only

Have fun.

Thanks for the message---

As I said in my earlier messages, my technical knowledge is limited.
Before I do something not so smart I will ask my questions. Are you
referring to Windows Explorer when you say Windows File Manager? If so,
all of the entries there from SeaMonkey through all of my accounts are
Read Only. I attempted to change one on them--the change simply
reverts back to Read Only. That is why I believe I must be in the
wrong place to make the changes.

Yes, Frog, I did mean the Windows Explorer when I mentioned the Windows
File Manager. Try going up the chain of files until you find one that
doesn't have the Read Only property set, then go down the chain one
level and see if you can make these files un-Read Only, and then the
next layer down and the next and so on!

Remember, an attachment is binary data converted to ascii text... an 8-bit to 7-bit
conversion. Binary files increase in size by 14% when converted to text. Your 10 MB of
attached text is equivalent to a typical shelf encyclopedia, like Britanica. In binary
form it would be 8.9 megs. So, yes, it would be a slow process to convert an
entire encyclopedia back to binary.

Note that normal left clicking doesn't work in mail+news, not in newsgroups or
mail, but HTML links do work in the browser. If you explicitly right click and
open in a browser{window, tab} that does work from mail+news, although it's
somewhat unintuitive, since http: URLs work on a single click. Oh, and manual
open leaves a window or tab sitting empty.

The O.P. was useful, I long ago decided this didn't work, and when testing for a

Thanks for your help and thanks for not abandoning me.

I did as you suggested, and nothing was changed in the Go drop-down

I noticed that the box in front of Read Only can be changed to a check

During the process of making the square blank in front of Read Only

Confirm Attribute Changes window (where I chose Apply changes to this

disappeared. All of the other sub folders to Frog had only the
Confirm Attribute Changes window.

Can you tell me why, and how I can fix it?

Have you tried Subscribe from the context menu of the Inbox folder? Do
you see the other sub folders there? Are they checked?

me believing that my problem could be profile related.

I believe you are right. Considering you did your current installation
in a roundabout way, I'm not surprised it should mess up something in
your profile.

What I'd recommend is, uninstall 2.0.3 and then delete its profile
altogether(be careful to remove *that* profile, and not 1.1.18's!)—it
won't matter since you haven't used it and whatever it contained is
still in your 1.1.18 profile. Then reinstall 2.0.3 and it will create
a new default profile, offering you once again to import your 1.1.18
data.

Well, my report is not good. I removed 2.0.3 via the Add\Remove
process. I next made a visit to Windows Explorer where I removed
SeaMonkey on from the following string:

C:\Documents and Settings\Frog\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey...
I then reloaded 2.0.3 back on my computer. I did not modify any
locations or anything else---I just let it do what ever it wanted to do.
Sadly to say, the same gray elements in the Go drop down window
were still there. I am now at my wits end...what do I do now or what do
I do differently?

Frog

I have taken two additional steps since my last message. I made the
2.0.3 version my default browser. That did not fix the problem. I then
created a new profile (that included my Inbox)--the letters in the Go
drop down window remained gray. I am now out of new ideas...short of
removing 2.0.3 and continue using 1.1.18.

Are there any other recommendations or thoughts?

Do you use the three-pane layout for the Mail Newsgroups application?
If not, can you try it? (in SM 1.1.X it was at View - Layout - Classic
View).

With this view, do you have anything listed in the left-hand pane? This
is where Accounts and News Servers are listed.

Are you able to click on the tree entry representing your e-mail
account? Does it show the set of operational links in the display
window (with links like Read messages, Compose a new message, etc.)?

Can you expand that tree node entry and see a list of your mail
boxes (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, etc.)? Can you click on these and
view their contents?

Can you expand the tree node entry for a news server and see the
groups to which you are subscribed? Can you click on one of these

The only way I was able to it to half way stay was to make the left pane
smaller but you can not close it all together [by placing the cursor on
the vertical bar that separates the folder pane from the message pane
and left click your mouse and hold it down when there is a double arrow
and drag it left --it gets to about 1 before it suddenly goes all the
way left and you have drag it back0-it may be a bug but I do not know.

Well, if you wish to disable the warning for *all* messages regardless
of where they come from, you can go to Edit/Preferences/Mail
Newsgroups/Message Display and untick the box besides Block images and
other content from remote sources.

For a more limited version, you can authorize remote content from a

Re: Remote Content

2010-03-04 Thread FDVS

Thanks
It wasn't in Mail and Newsgroups, it was in general preferences. Not
sure why but I found it.

Thanks for the help.
Dave

How do I tell the Seamonkey email browser to accept all remote content,
instead of asking me if I want to show it or not on each email? It is
time-consuming to respond to each email in order to removed that info
banner.
Thanks

Well, if you wish to disable the warning for *all* messages regardless
of where they come from, you can go to Edit/Preferences/Mail
Newsgroups/Message Display and untick the box besides Block images and
other content from remote sources.

For a more limited version, you can authorize remote content from a
particular sender... *if* the sender is in your address book.

Re: Mail in the In box just disappeared

2010-03-04 Thread Lee

No, I have it all set up for all. I had a notice from face book
that one of my 2d cousins daughter had posted on Facebook and
I clicked on the link and then all my mail in the in box disappeared.

Using Vista and SM 2.03 and I clicked on a new email and when
I did they all disappeared. Any ideas. Tried to restore but
also no luck.

You say the messages disappear after you read them? You are probably
with the display options set to show only unread messages.

Go to the menu View/Messages and select All.

2010-03-04 Thread mindjoy
Hi there,

This is weird, I just realized that the button Manage Identities is
missing from all of my mail accounts set on SeaMonkey 2.0.3 (on

Any help is greatly appreciated.
