Re: SM 2.07 Compose mail problem.
chicagofan wrote: Daniel wrote: chicagofan wrote: Daniel wrote: chicagofan wrote: My personal address book is alphabetical as it should be, but when I click Compose then address, I get another order, that makes no sense. If I click on that down arrow it just puts something else at the bottom, not what is highlighted. I thought it would move what is highlighted down, one move/click at a time. What happened? How can I get the names to list alphabetically when accessed in the Compose mail window? I'm using Win XP and Walnut theme with the last update of SM 2.07. bj bj, I just went and had a look myself. Note this was with SM 2.1a2, but I expect this to apply to SM 2.0.7 as well. I normally have my addressbook indexed on the Name column. The only other column I normally have displayed is the e-mail address. So I clicked the little squiggle line in the top right, ticked Screen Name, sorted on Screen Name, then un-ticked Screen Name (so I was back to my normal two column display) and the list stayed as it was when I had sorted by Screen Name selected. Had to click on the Name column header to get things sorted by that column again. Is it possible you've done something similar?? Daniel What I have is a block symbol that I assume is the same thing as your squiggle, and I tried that back and forth until they were back in order... except for the 2 lists... that I use the most [an A-list and B-list], which are reversed. The A-list is a group of friends that I write daily and I named it that, so that it would be first and highlighted when I open the address book. However, now the B-list of business contacts is listed first... and I can't find a way to change it. Far as I know, A should still come before B. ;) I don't understand why the compose window doesn't show the same thing as my address book, and can't see what I could have done to change it. Not saying that I didn't... but can't find it now. :) I'll keep fooling with the Screen Name switch and see if it shakes out. Thanks Daniel for checking, we had the same address book setup... Name and e-mail, so if yours is working, I won't give up hope I can get mine to change back somehow. It may be something in my Walnut theme. bj chicagofan, are you saying that if you clicked Compose and then clicked Address, in the left half of the screen, you get all your contact names and email addresses listed. In the top right of that section of the screen, at the same level as the Name and Email column headers, there is another little Icon, which, if you click on it, gives a listing of the columns you can have displayed. Select another column heading to display, then click on that column header so your address book is indexed according to the entries in this, new, third column. Now click on Name and the addressbook will be indexed according to what you have as the name for the email address. Clicking on the Name reverses the display orderwell at least it does for me! Daniel I'm saying that clicking on Name... the compose address window IS in name order... EXCEPT FOR... the B-List has been inserted FIRST on the list... although my address book is correctly sorted by Name... alphabetically. B does not come first in the alphabet to my knowledge. ;) Can not get it to change by switching. :( Guess I'll have to delete the list, and create another or leave it out. bj I did, at one stage, have a group for my Family members with-in my Addressbook, and it just listed in its correct place, under F for Family, but then I didn't re-index my listing. Re: Education on User Agent Strings

While I have been using user agent switcher for a long time, the need to spoof firefox has gotten so common, I need a default fix. There appears to be no option in user agent switcher to set the default other than by using about:config so, since it reverts to default for each session, need to get educated. Thanks in advance, Beverly Howard Manually setting preference variables to spoof Firefox permanently will cause server logs to report the use of Firefox for ALL Web sites you visit. In the end, if this practice becomes widespread, it will cause Web developers to think NO ONE is using SeaMonkey. It is much better to use PrefBar or UserAgentSwitcher. These provide easy ways to spoof Firefox when necessary and then revert back to not spoofing. However, the current versions of these extensions are not necessarily compatible with SeaMonkey 1.x. If you are not ready to update to SeaMonkey 2.x, you need to search for older versions of these extensions. No plan to update until Seamonkey gets to=2.1 :) TIA The security updates are recommended. I'll have to double-check, didn't recall there were any relevant security patches in 2.0.6 thru 2.0.8 It's a scary internet. Agreed, that's why I'm behind multiple firewalls and multiple filters on email/newsgroups. Also a fringe benefit of being on dial-up, my IP address is not the same between connections. What happened to you is that the parent.lock file, which locks the profile in use did not get deleted when you closed SeaMonkey. If it happens again, you can avoid the restart by navigating to your profile folder, and deleting the file manually. If I read you correctly, wouldn't that lose all my preferences and email? To avoid the issue in most cases, close SeaMonkey by choosing Using the file menu, rather then simply closing all the windows. I guess I was unclear. I meant to say navigate to your profile location and delete the parent.lock file, not the entire profile. To close the program properly on Windows, click on File in the menubar, then choose Exit. This should ensure that the program actually closes, and that the lock file will be deleted automatically. Closing all the windows will usually close the program, but not always, as you have seen. That would be astonishing to me (a nonprogrammer). I've noticed that SM (and Mozilla before it, for that matter) occasionally fails to terminate correctly, leaving a process running that I can see in Task Manager but no visible window or tile in the taskbar. When that happens, it continues to retrieve mail, displaying the tray icon and playing the sound, but the user has no way to access the program. ALT-Tab cycles through all other running programs, but never shows SM. Even Task Manager doesn't show it in the list of running applications. If I force the process to close in Task Manager using end process, I can then relaunch the program normally with no harm done. -- War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left. -- Paul B. Perhaps I should let a more experienced Windows use speak to the efficacy of FileExit, as opposed to the close box. I will note that it has been discussed a number of times in these groups in the past. I would think that ctrl+q would have the same effect as FileExit, though again perhaps a more experienced Windows user should comment.
