After you have composed your mail in the SM mail client (not the SM
browser client, nor the SM composer client) -> Click on the "Attach"
button - then navigate to find the file you want to attach - select it
or select a fews - then click on "Open" ...

Repeat if you want more attached files.
There is no need for a plugin to attach files at a mail.

Seamonkey auto-opens

2012-09-21 Thread S Quinn

Hi,

I have SeaMonkey 2.7.1. Recently Seamonkey has begun to open itself to remind
me to check for updates. I've got nothing against updates but I don't want the
application to open unless I explicitly ask it to open. I haven't seen how to
turn this off in the forums, but I just may be looking in the wrong place. Can
you tell me where to find the setting that will prohibit SeaMonkey from opening
for any reason without me opening it?
Thanks.

Question about newsgroup message filters

2012-09-21 Thread chicagofan

I am still using SM 2.8. Is there a file for message *filters* by newsgroup,
that could be copied to another news server?

If so, could someone tell me it's location and the process? If I knew the locations, would it just be a cut and paste
operation?:) TIA.

Since you are on Win you may have to replace '/' with '\'. ;)

Is there a file identified as the filters, or do you have to copy everything
that is in .dat?

Each newsgroup has its own filters in a file with the suffix dat. For
example the filters for de.test are contained in the file de.test.dat.

Thanks so much, Hartmut! I have one newsgroup that can't be easily read without a 100 or so filters, and it's so time
consuming to rebuild that file, every time something messes up the news server message numbering system. :)

Your profile can be found by about:support and clicking on 'Open

or you could rename it to "Other Languages\Unicode".

AFAIK, Seamonkey does *not* auto-opens. If it appears to be doing so,
there's probably a hidden instance of Seamonkey running in the
background. That's also *not* normal behavior.

Some possible causes to be investigated:
- something broken in your setup that keeps Seamonkey from completely
closing when you ask it to close (possibly a broken extension).
- Some utility to "preload" Seamonkey in memory so it starts faster, OR
to "minimize to tray" (instead of closing) Seamonkey so it still
downloads mail and stuff without cluttering the taskbar. I think there
were a couple extensions to do that, perhaps you are using one of those.
Check your extensions list.
- A virus, running Seamonkey in the background in order to use it to do
stuff. Personally, I think this one is unlikely; the viruses I have seen
that do something like this always target IE.

Re: Delay opening and closing FaceBook

2012-09-21 Thread Stan
I want to make sure my problem is clearly understood and also ask for
advice about how to seek a solution:

1. SM 2.12.1 is running.

2. I click on my Facebook entry in the personal toolbar and the starting
FB screen appears.

3. At this point, the pointer is not "released" and cannot click on
anything. The Task Manager has the SM entry but says it is not responding.

4. After about 45 seconds the pointer is released and I ca proceed to
use FB without any further problems.

5. When I am through, I close the Tab containing FB, The FB screen goes
blank and once again the pointer is frozen for about 45 seconds. After
that no problems.

6. By the way, when the pointer is frozen, it affects any other
applications and the Mail/Newsgroup window.

7. It all runs fine on IE.

8. I have checked for viruses. I have turned off Add-ons. I have
Defragged my disk. I have no idea what to do from here.

I need suggestions as to how to proceed from here. Can anyone give me
some clues? Is this likely a SM problem, a FB problem, or something else.

Stan

When I am ready to exit FB, I click on the 'x' in the Tab and nothing
happens, the screen does not clear, and the pointer stays busy for about
45 seconds.

Anyone know what causes this? Thanks. Stan. (I'm using SM 2.12.1)

Additional option is some spamware/spyware/adware that attempts to
launch ad sites. [or similarly legit software that tries to open a
website for some reason], could also be trying to launch SeaMonkey. And
depending on your options for the Update Check, it could be prompting
you on each launch.

That said 2.7.1 is quite old, I highly recommend updating to 2.12.1 to
fix many issues, including security issues.
