Window came up and immediately disappeared. Well, let's go step by step here... ipconfig is a command-line utility. So, in order to be able to read the output, it's advisable to open a command prompt first. So, type CMD in the Run box first. Then, in the DOS-link box, you may type ipconfig. The reason ipconfig/flushdns did not work is probably because you forgot a space. Try ipconfig /flushdns -- yes, that's a space before the slash. Works fine for me without the space, always has (I first learned about it on Windows 2000, I've also had WinXP and Win7). If ipconfig produces a disappearing window, there's something else going on. -- War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left. -- Paul B. Please follow instructions, don't make up your own: Holding the Windows key, press R. This will open a little window asking you what program to run. Enter cmd (without quotation marks), hit Enter. This works on lots of versions of Windows, at least as far back as XP. Focus on the second sentence, get it right. THEN after you've opened a command prompt: Type ipconfig/flushdns Hit Enter. Windows replies Windows IP Configuration Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache If annoyances IS down, then all this is Futile. Yes. DoctorBill wrote: Last, I believe, question. What good does it do to clear the DNS Cache ? As noted in my original post, Rationale: DNS lookup means that when you ask your browser to access a website by name, it needs to look up the IP address (12.34.56.789) and request that. As a time-saving efficiency measure, your computer stores a list of name/address equivalencies so it doesn't have to keep looking them up. Sometimes this list can become corrupted or errors can creep in. By clearing the list, you force the browser to look them up fresh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System Would it be a good idea to do that very often ? Generally a waste of time, but if your computer cannot find websites that it should be finding, it's worth a shot, especially since it's quick and easy and does no harm. -- War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left. -- Paul B.
