Metacrawler was a multiple search engine site. You gave it a search
term, and it would concurrently use several search sites with that term.

Don't autoplay sounds, animations, videos

2016-10-08 Thread Gerry Hickman

Hi,

In SeaMonkey there's an amazing feature where you can "ask to activate".
This can be set with the Adobe Flash plugin, and will prevent the Flash
animation from starting until you tell it to. I think there used to be a
similar feature for animated gifs, and sounds.

However, in 2016, many adverts simply start a video with soundtrack
(e.g. HTML5) and it seems that these can start on their own or via
JavaScript. Is there any way to use "ask to activate" so they will only
start when you tell them to?

That works if you also choose View | Messages | All. If you choose View

That is what I did. I have View > Messages > All and View > Threads >

Save HTML5 Video

2016-10-08 Thread Gerry Hickman

Hi,

Most browsers are now able to play HTML5 video, instead of needing
something like Adobe Flash. It's great to be able to use an open
standard instead of Flash and it means the browser can offer it's own
menus for things like Play, Pause, Stop, Save As...

But, some sites (like YouTube) serve HTML5 video as around 100 separate
files, with part 01 pointing to part 02 and so on (ranges). While the
browser is playing part 01, it's downloading part 02 in the background.
This can break the "Save As..." feature, where it will only download
part 01 and then stop...

Where did you find the file userChromme-example.css? It could be that

Never mind found them and they are outdated.

Mozilla removed those files and the chrome folder from Firefox a long
time ago and probably those pages from mozilla.org.

Okay Ed, thank you

My issue is that I Am unable to install SM 2.4 on my W10 machine on
drive e: in my box.

I have dl'd the program, execute the installation, select custom
install, select drive e:, installed, then get the message noted above
about SM not being able to open.

Actually, the message says the PROFILE cannot be opened.

How did you restore your profile onto the new machine and where did you
put it?

How are you launching SM? What shortcut? Right-click the shortcut and
click Properties, then the Shortcut tab. Check the Targe box. Is there
a profile specified at the end of the line?

Try launching the Profile Manager. What happens?

Click Start. Type %APPDATA%\Mozilla. That will open Windows Explorer to
the Profiles location. Verify that your SM profile is there, its name,
and see if the SM shortcut is pointing to that location.

I have previously achieved this, but cannot figure out what incorrect
turn I have made this time.

There is a folder set up on drive e: for SM, maybe I need to delete it
altogether and start again? Or maybe it is possible that I thought the
program was loaded on a different drive when reality that was not true
only the profiles?

Thank you all again and I hope this is clearer...

 Original Message

Are there any entries for userChrome.css will that eliminate a
particular menu heading (such as "Go" and "Window")?

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=3=409734:

You can control this through entries in your userChrome.css file
(located in the chrome folder of your profile folder). Just add this
information below the "namespace" entry:

menu[label="Go"] {
display: none !important;
}

You can also remove specific menu entries (i.e. "For Internet Explorer

menuitem[label="For Internet Explorer Users"] {
display: none !important;
