Re: Crashes

2017-06-29 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl
Its not a beta but an unofficial community version. The code has release
quality but at least two bugs will need to be fixed for the official
release. Not deal breakers. Geolocation prompting might be broken (was
just fixed for 2.48) and images vanish from mail sometimes during
compose when saved as a draft or a template is used.

As usual there are other bugs you can find :)

Not using Fx superlative greatest release ever her but it should be a
good one and way better than 2.46.

You can upgrade to Adrians unofficial 2.49.1 which will be the next
version after 2.48:

https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-release-windows32/

If you do please backup your profile in case you want to get back to
2.46 or 2.48. When it finally arrives the official 2.491 will install
over Adrians fine without the need to do a restore before.

I did this upgrade on 6/27 based on an e-mail, installing the 64bit
version 2.49.1. So far it has worked flawlessly including the install,
with no crashes after 3 day. I've never worked with a beta before; but
this has been a good experience for me.

Win 10 again. The best fix would be to downlevel (or really upgrade) to
8.1 or 7 :)

2.48 final csets are done. I won't take anything new here for our branch
or ewong would kill me :)

So 2.49.1. An uplift for the bug has been requested. If it is not

Using Win 7 and SM 2.46. I don't really understand the purpose of the
plugin container in SM, but I'm reading you can turn it off if you
want.

If the plugin crashes, the whole browser shouldn't.

With it disabled, the whole browser will crash.

One would have to wonder If the plug-in crashes, how functional
would the browser be? Take it all out?? Just that Tab??

You know how you get the "Activate Flash" box where a video should be in
a web page? Well, when you activate Flash to view the video and Flash
crashes, you see that a message in that space.

The rest of the page or site is still working, the rest of the browser
continues to work.

Oh!! O;K, Walt, thanks for that explanation.

out of memory

Hmmm, I wonder if the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ
errors are in fact an OOM that wasn't diagnosed,
and then we just try to dereference a NULL struct
which gives a small offset...

But I thought that's not possible in C++, that memory
allocation failures raised an exception...

FRG, is it possible that some allocs use malloc?
Or actually catch the OOM exception and keep going?

I agree that increasing the amount of RAM might make
a difference. Worth a try.

Otherwise, Mozilla is known to leak memory. So taking
the habit of closing the session every few hours might
also avoid the OOM situations.

Regards.

Re: Crashes

2017-06-29 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl
This seems to be caused by a core bug but I can't access it because it
is security relevant so not sure if it will be fixed by upgrading to the
upcoming 2.48.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1230817 is a duplicate of
the bug.

You can upgrade to Adrians unofficial 2.49.1 which will be the next
version after 2.48:

https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-release-windows32/

If you do please backup your profile in case you want to get back to
2.46 or 2.48. When it finally arrives the official 2.491 will install
over Adrians fine without the need to do a restore before.

OK, based on the first 10 crashes, you seem to be hitting
two separate (but maybe related) bugs:

In other words, how can someone else reproduce this crash.

P.S. @FRG => can you see bug 1342823
Was it FIXED recently?
Can you unmask it, or have some mozdev unmask it?

Re: New Crash Report Situation (W10 pro, 64b, desktop)

2017-06-29 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl
The last two are out of memory errors. Do you have only 2GB in your PC?
If yes upgrade to 4 GB and see if the errors go away. 2GB and any
recent Windows version asks for trouble.

My crash reports go back to Nov 2016.

TIA for your input and thoughts on what my system requires.
