Uninstall Adblock+ 2.9.1. and use 2.8.2. Currently much better anyway.
Top crasher for Thunderbird too. Some Web extension changes a few weeks

IMCOIMPATIBLE!

2017-08-02 Thread wwelvis
I've had problems all day with opening SM 2.48. It took me literally most of
the day to figure out what the solution was.

I have a MAC macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and it appears as if SM 2.48 isn't compatible
with the Mac OS I am on.

To solve this I downloaded SM 2.46 (after saving my PROFILE) and everything
works fine.

Does anyone know when this will be corrected?

How to clear 2.48 update available message?

2017-08-02 Thread Rich Gray
On getting the release notice, I tried to update. Didn't happen, of course.
It went through the motions and failed. I found out about the need to do
it manually. Now I'm running 2.48, but it keeps prompting me to restart to
install the update. How do I get rid of the downloaded file/clear the prompt?

Obviously the updater needs a "Dde, where's my update server?" function.

Thanks to the SeaMonkey team for all the effort !!

the criteria of the mail filters and it tries to perform a move action, it

anyone else has had such a phantom account icon appear in the mail client
after 2.48 upgrade. I'm currently pondering whether this problem is caused by
the mail filter's logic / action which triggered a new SM mail client bug that
previously didn't exist until 2.48, or simply deleting the mail filters and
recreating them will solve the problem.

I would prefer not to have to move the entire mail accounts e-mail files off
to a temporary folder, delete the entire mail account and then move them back
in to see if the problem will resolve and the phantom account icon disappear.
I can't delete the phantom account either and it appears to be a ghost of the
real account directly below it. I have made a screen capture of this problem
and attached it to this post. For privacy reasons, the details of all the real
mail accounts and newsgroups have been blurred out. However, the phantom mail
account on which the highlight bar is located on, is shown. Only an icon is
show with no annotation on this phantom mail account.

After wasting a couple of hours trying to resolve this problem in SM 2.48 mail
client, I have reverted to version 2.46. This is probably the worst SM mail
client problem I have encountered to date. All previous version upgraded
manually without problems. When in 2.48, I tried to delete the real e-mail
account directly below the phantom account and that did remove the phantom
account. So I thought that the problem was solved. I then recreated the e-mail
account in 2.48 and the phantom account did not appear above it. However,
because my e-mail files for that particular account reside on a folder that is
different from the default mail folder that the mail client uses, I would
change the mail folder path for that account. I then discovered that after
updating this parameter and when SM restarts, the phantom mail account icon
reappeared. Very frustrating.

Furthermore, what's more disturbing is that in the process of deleting the
account and re-creating it, the mail client appears to lose track of and get
confused about which account was deleted, and in fact some other real e-mail
accounts above the phantom account disappeared, even though strangely, when
examining the MAIL AND NEWSGROUP ACCOUNT SETTINGS window, all mail accounts
are still present even though some are NOT displayed in the mail client
itself, therefore there was no way to access the contents of the mail account.

In summary, it appears the phantom mail account icon displayed in the mail
client arises from some confusion of the mail client's tracking of accounts
and their associated mail folder locations. It appears that as soon as a mail
account's file path is updated to the non-default file path, the phantom mail
account appears in the mail client. The reason why I suspect this is related
to the cause of this new bug in SM 2.48 mail client, is because all MAIL
FILTER management window completely loses track of all the available mail
accounts and mail folders, and all existing mail filter rules for the mail
account that is displayed immediately below the phantom mail account, becomes
unavailable to the mail client.

Furthermore, when a mail account is deleted, sometimes the phantom mail
account does not disappear and the phantom account then "plagues" the next
available real mail account below it, and causes the same problem. This issue
and associated problems essentially renders the SM 2.48 mail client risky and
completely unuseable for me. I have over 10 e-mail accounts managed by the
mail client plus half a dozen newsgroups and it's unacceptable that potential
loss of an account can occur because the mail client gets confused about which
account is located where or gets accounts mixed up when deleting accounts and
creating them. I've been forced to go back to SM 2.46 which is completely
stable as far as the mail client goes. This is the very first time I've ever
had any mail client problems

Could the problem be that there is no SM 2.47 for SM 2.46 to update
to on it's way to SM 2.48.

I seem to recall, in the dime dark days, where a version was missed,
that some magic had to be done on the server, or wherever, to allow
the Update function to allow skipping a version.

You're probably thinking of the time that the SSL certificate on the
update server expired and was renewed in the unexpectedly long time
between one release and the next. When the old version looked for
updates, it didn't get the certificate it was expecting from the server
and concluded that something was intercepting your connection and trying
to trick it into installing something else.

Re: SeaMonkey 2.48 released!

2017-08-02 Thread mozilla-lists . mbourne

My understanding (which may be flawed) is basically:
1. SeaMonkey 2.46 checks a server at a particular address to find the
latest version and therefore whether an update is available
2. That server has been changed and, for whatever reason, now has a
different address
3. SeaMonkey <= 2.46 does not know about that change, and keeps checking
the old address
4. It doesn't find any updates, because the server is no longer at that
address
5. SeaMonkey >= 2.48 has the new address, so once that's installed it
can find and install future updates [*]
6. See 1 (There's a hole in my bucket...
)

The only thing "broken" about the update checker in 2.46 is that it
checks an address which was correct at the time it was released but
isn't any more.

There might be an about:config entry specifying the address check for
updates. But that can't be changed automatically without an update to do
it, so would be a manual change for a one-off update, and would probably
have to be reset afterwards to avoid the override breaking future
updates. Probably easiest and safest just to download the full installer
this one time!

Is there something similar for news messages?

Sure, why not? File | Save As | Draft. It'll show up in the Drafts
folder for whatever account you use to post to the given newsgroup.

I don't have a "Draft" folders in any of my newsgroup accounts.
When I

save a news message without sending it, it goes into 'local folders';
I can open it from there and post it easily

I think that for news ... the draft folder is under "Local Folders"

Yeah, by default unless the user changed it to somewhere else in
"Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings".

Yes, that is true. However the message will not be saved is sending
of the message fails. Even worse, if the message was saved as a draft
prior to trying to send it, the saved message will also be lost.

Just to do a test, I save this message ... The Draft box of the "Local
Folders" contain this message... then I cut internet .. then I try to
send. "***"

The sending failed with my message still on the screen. (and still in
the Draft box of the "Local Folders" - but with the text before the "***"

I reconnect internet then I send this message.

This is a correct sending now, and the Draft folder is empty.
and a copy of this message is in the "Sent box" of the "Local Folders".

The message is not lost.

I have the PrefBar and Flashblock extensions. I do not like PrefBar's
method of blocking Flash; so I created a PrefBar checkbox to enable and
disable Flashblock, with "disable" being the default.

I want to separate the controls of Flash and HTML5 Media. Thus, I set
the option in Flashblock not to block HTML5 Media. Then I created a
checkbox in PrefBar to enable and disable HTML5 Media.

As already cited in this thread, the preference variable for enabling
and disabling HTML5 Media (used by my PrefBar checkbox) is
media.autoplay.enabled. The preference variable for enabling and
disabling Flashblock is flashblock.enabled.

With Flashblock enabled, I am still able to "play" a Flash presentation
merely by selecting the right-pointing triangle in the Flash window.
For HTML5 Media, I generally enable it and then reload the Web page to
"play" the presentation; but I really do not know if reloading is
necessary.

videos will not start even when you click play.

I don't believe I have the same problem in Firefox - I have autoplay

The one thing I noticed in testing this build is that theme wonkyness
happens. I was on Modern and it defaulted to Default theme. When
switching back to Modern, it hangs and has to be killed in Task Manager.
After a restart, Modern theme is applied.

There are others but these are the worst.
