Geoff, where did you get the preference
"general.useragent.extra.seamonkey" from??

If you enter "about:config" in the browser address bar, and, then, after
accepting the warning, if you enter "useragent" in the Search: bar, you
should see all the preferences which include "useragent" in the preference.

On that screen, do you see listed a preference called
"general.useragent.extra.seamonkey"?? I don't!!

If you do see that preference, in the column labelled "Status", does it
say "default" or "user set"?? If the later, you (or someone at your
computer) have set up a specific useragent to be displayed to a 'seamonkey'.

'www.whatis mybrowser.com' is not 'seamonkey' so your SeaMonkey is
displaying its real useragent.

It is also possible that when you installed Lightning, it reset your
general User Agent string to show SeaMonkey/2.53.1 and then added in the
Lightning/5.8.1

On this Laptop, I dual-boot Win7 and various Linux OS'. As Linux can

my SeaMonkey Profile so both OS' can "see" it!!

Considering other points in this thread, this setup is not just "to have

different purposes, but want to have that possibility).  Also, this

When I first implemented this, I knew that some files in the Profile

any OS in any order, I hoped that SM/FF would automatically handle this

work flawlessly (except for a few Extensions) so far.

About the only problem I've had with my Dual-Booting set-up is when I
want to download a file onto my Hard Drive, my Win7 might be trying to
save the file to '/Downloads'. The '/' indicates that the download was
destined for a Linux partition which Win7 knows nothing about so,
more or less, responds "HUH!!"

The statement that "SeaMonkey was never designed to work that way"
brought this back for me, since I also imagined that this was true, but
see that nevertheless it DOES "work that way" for me -- and, since I
have never seen any information about this, I'd like to know if anyone
can furnish any, and warn of any potential problems with this setup.

Part 1:  I really thought that I was dealing with a virus or malware on
my computer; but I didn't want accept this thought, since I have had my
present virus scan software (WebRoot) on my system for years; and it has
never let me down.  As I stated in one of my messages, I did want to
weed a virus or malware possibility out of the picture...thus, I did a
complete scan of my entire system (6.5 hours of scanning); and no bad
things were found on my system.  I then sent a message to the WebRoot
people, and they had me forward the results of my scan to them for
analysis.  They informed me, after their scan was completed, that my
system did not have a virus or malware problem...it was completely
clean.  They suggested that I contact Verizon (which remains a part of
my email address) for help.  I thought about it and decided that a
conversation with Verizon might take less that a few minutes; however,
the wait to talk to somebody might take hours of waiting.  I then turned
to the internet for help.

Part 2:  The second part pertains to what I found on the internet.  Here
is that information:

Verizon Email Retirement

2020-04-11 Thread Frog
Some you have given me much help with an earlier thread relating to
this the subject of this message...Subject: Not able to send messages.

Here is a list of things I must learn about to make the change from
Verizon to AOL> ISP.

I now I want to continue using SeaMonkey in the same manner as I did
while connected to Verizon.

I know that I must take steps to configure things so that I continue to
have access to old Verizon messages, while adding new AOL messages to
this system (if that is possible).

For sure, I don't want to lose anything I previously saved on my
computer that originated via the Verizon days.

I believe there will be a need to reconfigure MailWasher to work with
AOL. This MailWasher software permits me to weed out unwanted messages
prior to downloading messages to my computer...I have found this
software helps to keep from introducing virus and malware software on my
computer.

Have I forgotten anything?

I will continue using the same Verizon email address on the AOL system.

I would welcome any help or guidance with the above that comes my way.

Hello group,

since switch from 2.149.5 to 2.53.1 official, i have a strange behavior in
mails.
Clicking on a folder (say inbox) does not show the folder content: i have first to
click on mail account (say: mymailmyprovider.com) then on folder to see it.
My profile is on on NAS so i accessed it from two computers (not
simultaneously, of course)
I have 3 mail account and follows news.mozzila.org / m.s.seamonkey two.
All same problem.

What i can say (and suspect this is the root cause) is :
Before switching from 2.49.25 to 2.53.1 on computer "A", i made a copy of my
profile on NAS.
Then i remove 2.49.5, install 2.53.1 and point at NAS profile(editing
profiles.ini with text editor).
I think the problem starts when i open computer "B" and forget to migrate from
2.49.5 to 2.53.1: i open Seamonkey and i get the message of profile migration.
Returning on computer "A " is OK. Since this; i have both computers with
Seamonkey 2.53.1 so this specific problem will not occur any more.
But now i still have the strange behavior described a begin of this message.

Does any one knows how to fix it? I do not want restore from my copy of 2.49.5
profile because i will lost emails from this date, new bookmarks and new
passwords stored.

Forgot: win 10 pro on both computers.

Lightbird 0.7.1 usually seems to cause it.

The SM Data Manager on my wife's machine isn't working right.  When it's
called up, there's a long period of not allowing any entry in the
'Search Domains' field, followed by more time where it says (Not
Responding) when it goes dim, then after about 45 seconds, allowing
entry in the 'Search Domains' field, and everything is working.  This
happens every time it is called.

Any ideas?

From the release notes
:

If you experience a hang and/or get a message box that a script is busy when
opening the Data Manager try deleting the webappsstore.* files from your
profile folder when SeaMonkey is not running. These files contain data stored
by web sites and will be recreated during the next start. If you are unsure if
the information is needed please back up the files before deleting them. The
problem is tracked in bug 1305624 but so far no coding error has been found.
This problem is been reported frequently when trying to manage passwords. But
the problem will generally happen just after you open the Data Manager, because
this component is also used for managing cookies, site preferences permissions
and other settings.

I have solved the problem.
You have to make in Preferences under Mail@Newsgroups SM the default
application for Mail.
The same for the browser.
Then it will be avaible in the Windows App settings.

I have 2.49.4 on this machine, another one with 2.49.5 behaves similarly.
My experience with Data Manager is that it takes a while to start -
probably because it is setting up a "view" or two - but then works fine.
The big difference is that yours takes a lot longer. I just timed it
here and came up with a figure of 7-8 seconds, this is not enough to
trigger the "Not Responding" either.

Looking at my profile:
- cookies.sqlite is 2MB
- kinto.sqlite is 2MB (what is THAT?)
- permissions.sqlite is 1MB and a year old
- places.sqlite is almost 42MB
- webappstore.sqlite is 44MB and probably irrelevant here
Everything else is either old or smaller.
My machine has enough processor capacity and enough memory (8GB). My
data is on a rotating disc rather than an SSD, an SSD would presumably
be much faster.
