Look in Helper Applications in the Browser section of Preferences.
You can specify what application will be used to open any file type.

Appreciate your reply and suggestion, but that did not change the
situation.  Any other ideas??  The browser seems to work just fine,

So you receive PDF attachments and they don't open in the browser?

It opens in the browser, but not in the MAIL component.

What did your Helper Application indicate they should be opening with?

It initially said to choose, but I set it to Acrobat Reader DC.  That
did not solve the problem.

I think if you have a working PDF Viewer extension the Content Type
should be "Portable Document Format(PDF)" and the Action "Preview in
SeaMonkey" (Maybe Firefox).

I've never had any attachment open in the Mail window.

The Helper Applications preferences appear to apply to browser and mail
even though they are in the Browser section. You may need to adjust the
settings for 3 Content Types: Adobe Acrobat Document, PDF file
(application/download), and PDF file (application/x-PDF). Mine
defaulted to Always ask. I clicked Use other, and selected Adobe
Acrobat Reader DC from the list of choices. Double-clicking or opening
a PDF attachment now opens the file in an Acrobat Reader window.

Interesting. If you or anyone ever remembers it, then please kindly

will run into another HTTPS web site with this issue again which
happens once in a while. :(

https://badssl.com/

Thanks, bookmarked, and nice duplicate posts. https://expired.badssl.com
worked and showed the one I was looking for:

"This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked SeaMonkey to connect securely to expired.badssl.com, but
we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, websites will present
trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place.
However, this website's identity can't be verified.

What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this website without problems, this error
could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the website, and you
shouldn't continue.

Technical Details

expired.badssl.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate expired on Sunday, April 12, 2015, 4:59 PM. The current
time is Friday, May 08, 2020, 3:16 PM.

Error code: SEC_ERROR_EXPIRED_CERTIFICATE
I Understand the Risks

If you understand what's going on, you can tell SeaMonkey to start
trusting this website's identification. Even if you trust the website,
this error could mean that someone is tampering with your connection.

Don't add an exception unless you know there's a good reason why this
website doesn't use trusted identification." with its "Add Exception"
button option that I was looking for.

However, you said HSTS earlier which I saw a few in https://badssl.com's
list. I tried its red https://subdomain.preloaded-hsts.badssl.com which
was probably the closest to the one I ran into last night, but it also
let me add an exception. It didn't show "This site uses HTTP Strict
Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that SeaMonkey only connect to it
securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this
certificate... uses an invalid security certificate Error code:
SEC_ERROR_EXPIRED_CERTIFICATE".

Hmm! My SeaMonkey must be possessed or something! :O

You need to clarify what you mean by "upgrade"?
I thought the install process on Linux was just to extract the x64
binaries, so the upgrade process would be:

1. Write down the profile location
2. Back up the profile
3. Back up the old SeaMonkey binaries
4. Extract the new SeaMonkey binaries

Is there an add-on that blocks Twitter promoted tweets?

2020-05-08 Thread Jonathan Wilson

Is there an add-on for blocking Twitter promoted tweets that actually works
I tried a number of different ad-blockers and other things claiming to
block promoted tweets (both on SeaMonkey and on a copy of Firefox I had
laying around) but nothing out there seems to be able to block them. Does
such a thing exist? (for SeaMonkey ideally but even something for another
browser that works would help since it would give me useful info on where
to start in terms of blocking these things)

Or has Twitter finally made it impossible for blockers to tell the
difference between a promoted tweet and a regular tweet?

Basically only the browser works right in 2.57. Various problems with the

Thanks for the feedback.

I will go with separate profiles, because I do want to monitor status with
extensions.  I found that to be really useful when watching Firefox, then
Thunderbird make the transition to WebExtensions.  I'm not making any use of
Lightning, so I'm not concerned about that.

From the developer meeting notes, I do know that mail/news is not working in
2.57, but that's one of the things I want to keep an eye on, so that when the
notes indicate there's changes, I can see the effects.

And somewhere along, I may be able to do some bug reporting, as well.

Actually sending mail got fixed in the last 2 months. Just the 3 pane is
broken but without it pretty hard to see what is going on :)
Tested by copying my 2.53 profile into a 2.57 one. Then sent myself an email

SeaMonkey doesn't make the portable versions.

You get those from

There is a Support link there where you could probably ask for an update.

In the past, portableapps.com has been pretty good about having current
copies of Seamonkey, although at the moment, the most recent version
offered is 2.49.5. I don't know how soon the developer is likely to
update, although https://portableapps.com/development/outdated does

test 2.53 to 2.57 ports.

Thanks for the feedback.

I will go with separate profiles, because I do want to monitor status
with extensions. I found that to be really useful when watching
Firefox, then Thunderbird make the transition to WebExtensions. I'm not
making any use of Lightning, so I'm not concerned about that.

From the developer meeting notes, I do know that mail/news is not
working in 2.57, but that's one of the things I want to keep an eye on,
so that when the notes indicate there's changes, I can see the effects.

And somewhere along, I may be able to do some bug reporting, as well.

Hello.

https://videos.antville.org web site (not mine) currently says:

"This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked SeaMonkey to connect securely to videos.antville.org,
but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that
SeaMonkey only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible
to add an exception for this certificate.

Technical Details

videos.antville.org uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate expired on Thursday, May 07, 2020, 5:06 PM. The
current time is Thursday, May 07, 2020, 9:42 PM.

Error code: SEC_ERROR_EXPIRED_CERTIFICATE".

In the past, SeaMonkey web browser used to ask me to continue or not.
I did not see any continue on it even though I know the risks. In
Firefox v76 web browser, it lets me continue. Why did SeaMonkey remove
this while Firefox still has it?

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

Clicking on your link in my Win7 SM 2.49.5, I get the "Connection
Untrusted" screen with the "I understand the Risks" option and clicking
on that, I can add an exemption.

Is this what you are suggesting has been removed in 2.53.2, Ant?

Seamonkey 2.53.2: Like Daniel i can add an exemption and after this i
access to this web page.

SeaMonkey cannot use the profile "Rick". It may be in use, unavailable or
damaged.

Please choose another profile or create a new one.

Thanks.

Ant wrote on 8/05/2020 12:55 PM:
I noticed forwarding an incoming HTML e-mail gets lots bigger when I
sent it out when forwarding (not as an attachment). Example with a
mailing list e-mail that was about 200 KB in my inbox folder, but it was
800 KB after forwarding (not as an attachment) in my sent folder. Why is
that?

Is anyone else noticing this too? Thank you for reading and hopefully
answering. :)

Hmm! Just this afternoon, I received an e-mail addressed to my sister at
my e-mail address which I then forwarded Inline to my sister.

My Inbox copy 49kB
My Sent copy 3.3kB

I'm guessing the difference is because the received e-mail included HTML
Pretty Picture stuff (or, maybe, BOTH HTML and Plain Text stuff) but
I've only forwarded the Plain Text stuff in my Forwarded message!

Hello all,

Getting tense on this side and not from being quarantined either!!!

I have not been able to upgrade from SM 2.49.5 because the email
module gets blanked out and as such cannot see them unless I place,
at random, my cursor in the box then that particular account filter
will only show the email on which it lands.

On three (3) other computers I have with SM and W10 Pro there have
been no issues with upgrading at all

There may be something obvious which I Am overlooking, now it is time
for another set of eyes and thoughts...

With 2.53.x Lightbird 0.7.1 can cause this. If safe mode or test
profile also shows it check video drivers. Intel ones are notoriously
bad and should be updated to the latest level.

FRG
FRG - Thank you for your suggestion. My video drivers were updated with
the latest version.

I tried to install 2.53.2 and still had the same issue with the mail
module.

Also, Sticky Password which is on the Tool Bar is greyed out, I forgot
to say that.

I have tried dis-abling add-on's as well... to no avail.

Any further suggestions or ideas I need to pursue?

Maybe not related, but i think windows Defender is more and more
agressive from some month ago.
Try tu uninstal seamonkey, disabled Defender, install Seamonkey,
re-activated Defender. Maybe something went wrong first time installation?

I use Seamonkey 2.53.2 on both Destop win 10 Pro and Laptop (Lenovo T61)
win 10 Pro with shared profil located on a NAS.
I was forced on both computer to add Seamonkey.exe to "allowed" program
to Dender. It was worling well but without this addition the start of
Seamonkey windows takes between 5 to 10 minutes. After adding , the
start have normal speed (a pair of seconds due to network).
