Re: Home Depot videos don't play
flyguy wrote: Windows 10, SM 2.49.4 The videos on this Home Depot page do not play for me, but they do play if I use Chrome. What's wrong? Best guess is that the developers are only paying attention to Chrome, and don't really care about other browsers, especially ones considered to be "obsolete" like Seamonkey. I tried going there with an untweaked profile in 2.53.3, and no success on getting the videos to play. I also tried spoofing Chrome, and nothing there, either. I did find it interesting that when I right-click and select "view image", I get a view of a control box: https://assets.homedepot-static.com/p/static/images/inlinePlayerDwarfs.png To me, that's something that's happening with scripting. It's entirely possible that the site developers are making use of features that aren't supported in Seamonkey 2.53. All I can say that it is probably related to angular. While doing angular development, now with the newer version of angular, the project will not load in the development server in SeaMonkey. I have to use Firefox or Chrome. Luckily the production builds DO work from the production server, but I fear it is just a matter of time. I have MIXED feelings about angular. It does speed up development, however produces what the Brits call a Dog's Breakfast of code. Being old school, when I roll-my-own the code is much leaner and often less chances of undesirable "side effects". I'm concerned it might be a problem with SM setup and not the version. There are 115 HTML errors and 75 CSS errors in that Web page. I believe your problem is with the Web page and not with SeaMonkey. The phone number for Home Depot's Web site feedback is 1-800-435-4654. These kinds of answers are really unhelpful and, personally, tick me off. There may be tons of "errors" but fact of the matter is that Firefox, Opera and Chrome manage to parse it correctly and work anyway. And since Firefox and SM are both Gecko it really points to SM's issue. So at that point you really can't blame the website, it is Seamonkey's inability to deal with being able to properly parse what is thrown at it while others do it no problem. So nope, not buying it. This is a Seamonkey issue not a website issue. I have the same "problem" as FRG - I can't connect to that website because of geo-blocking - but you are forgetting that a large number of POS websites use Javascript to handle the various browsers+levels and simply don't bother with Seamonkey. Google have a document somewhere showing how things should be done - test for feature-support rather than browser levels - but some of their own developers have not read that particular memo either. There have been enough posts to this Newsgroup telling you how to spoof other browsers on a site-by-site level, maybe that would help. Other posts to this thread already make it clear that Javascript is being used here. * The P in POS in this context means "piece" rather than "point". -- spammo ergo sum, viruses courtesy of https://www.nsa.gov/malware/ ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

This is a Seamonkey issue not a website issue. Just that it is Gecko and works in Firefox does mean nothing. Basically most major websites nowadays are blotad garbage. New features from current Gecko are added all the time but it is a slow go. I use Edge Chromium as a second browser but relevant websites not working are not really many right now. Facebook Youtube and the other ilk are problably best viewed with a Chromium browser anyway and apart some parts work in 2.53.3. 2.53.3 has a few more fixes.
