Remember, an attachment is binary data converted to ascii text... an 8-bit to 7-bit
conversion. Binary files increase in size by 14% when converted to text. Your 10 MB of
attached text is equivalent to a typical shelf encyclopedia, like Britanica. In binary
form it would be 8.9 megs. So, yes, it would be a slow process to convert an
entire encyclopedia back to binary.

Re: Odd Characters in Sidebar Search

2010-02-26 Thread Dean Scott

when you actually do the search, does it return millions of pages
that have some in them, millions of pages that have thing in them,
etc, etc or just the pages that have some thing with spaces in them??

In other words, is the % a magic connecting character??

Daniel

That test didn't use quotes to contain the phrase so no pages with those words
in that exact order were returned, so yes, lots-o-pages with individual words
highlighted (bolded).

Upon the second search using the string that had the spaces replaced with %,
the results were identical, so Google ignored the %.

If I put a search phrase within quotes, such as walt disney world, the same thing happens. After
clicking the search button in the sidebar (or hitting Enter key), the spaces are replaced with %, per
walt%disney%world, and of course, the webpage returns hits with the highlighted phrase Walt
Disney World. etc. etc.

Re: Progress Window Mockups

2010-02-26 Thread Dean Scott

Ah HAA! So THAT's where the old launch or run button that appeared after download completed hid itself! I was so
missing that feature. Yes, I understand the need for security for the more naive in not presenting them with a big,
fat run button out in the open like it was previously, BUT this seasoned veteran had absolutely NO visual indication
that you could click on the filename in this dialog box and access these two open and open containing
folder options. I was just about to write a complaint to have this option brought back.

So, back to this thread, Yes, I like the slightly more clear indication (via the tiny
triangle arrows) that the filename can be clicked (oh, AND the 'From' location just
below it), but it still would have pass me by if I hadn't known such was the case.
So, maybe make these two items look like buttons, but only slightly, if that makes
sense, like making the background color just a shade lighter and surrounded by a
slightly darker 1 pixel stroke. OR, just add an actual small button the size of the
window min, max, close gadgets at the end of each line. shrug

Odd Characters in Sidebar Search

2010-02-25 Thread Dean Scott

Ever since 2.x, the sidebar search entry field turns spaces into % symbols
after a search is performed.

For instance, I have Google as the default, and when I type in some thing with spaces and hit return, the
entry line becomes some%thing%with%spaces (that was a direct copy/paste) while the actual Google website
page search field contains some thing with spaces UNTIL I click the sidebar search button again, then the
web page field is populated with some%thing%with%spaces

Any idea why?

Character encoding is the default western (ISO-8859-1).

Running SM 2.0.3 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
