So, to be safe, you might have to install SM 1.1.19 (this should pick up your Mozilla profile), then install SM 2.0 and the 2.1 to make sure the file conversion occurs, and then you should be able to install SM 2.17 ( the latest version). Re: Is it time to focus on a SeaMonkey stability release?
It's time for Seamonkey to just do security and stability releases like IE8 does instead of having to update new versions all the time. It's confusing and scary. I'm still back at Mozilla 1.78 for my email and newsgroups and use IE8 for my browser because after following this group I'm afraid to up grade. Henry Paul Bergsagel wrote: I was reading this Firefox article http://mashable.com/2011/09/27/firefox-7/ "Firefox 7 Is Here: Will It Stop Hogging Memory & Let You Browse Faster? What are your experiences with SeaMonkey compared to other browsers such as Chrome, Opera, or other modern browser? 2. In your experience is SeaMonkey a memory hog? is is slow (i.e. slow to open webpages)? 3. Is SeaMonkey improving or getting worse with each version? Topic for discussion: Apple set a goal for Mac OS X Leopard (v 10.5) that this release would not focus on adding new features to the operating system but would focus on stability. The result was that when Leopard was released it was one of the better OS releases, since it was very stable. Should the SeaMonkey (Firefox?) developers follow Apple's lead and take a pause in the development of the application and focus for a couple of releases only on stability issues (and security issues) rather than developing new features? I think it is time to pause the development of SeaMonkey and focus the next few releases on stabilizing the application. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

If you don't want to click on a link in a message in Mozilla 1.78 Mail and the site to be opened on the Mozilla 1.78 browser, I think you are out of luck. While I remember some talk about an obscure setting to make Seamonkey open links in mail on an external browser, this old version might not support it. I can think of two possibilities: As I reported earlier, Google's server appears not only to be sniffing the UA string but also parsing it. Perhaps, the mismatch between Gecko and Firefox versions is causing problems. Or perhaps the server is sniffing for a particular version of Gecko rather than for the string "Firefox". It might want something like 1.9.2 instead of 1.9.1. Either of these two would explain why my spoofing of Firefox 3.6.16 worked while yours did not work. My concern is what will happen if I try to upgrade and import my profile into the new SeaMonkey? If you have several accounts but only one profile, you should be fine. If it sees more than one profile, it will ask you to choose (by human-readable name, not the alphabet soup used to name the .slt file) and ignore the other one. You didn't look at the profiles I posted. My real ISP, Comcast, has email files dated 7/14/2007, while my old ISP, tcq.net, has email dated with files dated Dec. 2010 and Jan. 2011. Mozilla to Seamonkey question
Dell 2.8GHz computer with 3G RAM running WinXP Pro SP2. I'm still using Mozilla 1.7.8. Should I upgrade to 1.1.18 before I go to 2.03? What problems will I have doing this? Making new profile for SeaMonkey
I'm now confused about making a new profile for SeaMonkey from my Mozilla profile. I read the "How do I import my profile info from the Mozilla Application Suite or Netscape7?" section and am still confused. My Mozilla profile is now in C;\Documents and settings\Henry\application\Data\Mozilla\Profiles|Default User. I get to the part in the Create Profile Wizard that wants me to Enter a new profile name: I'm stuck right there and I don't know what the next question will be and I'll be stuck again. Looking at your User-Agent string I guess you mean Firefox 2.0.0.11. and want to upgrade to SeaMonkey 1.1.17. I'm confused about whether I have to un-install Mozilla first or if I can install SeaMonkey and will be OK if I don't open both programs at the same time. I'd like to be sure SeaMonkey has picked up my profile before I un-install Mozilla. You can run Firefox and SeaMonkey in parallel without any problem. You can install/uninstall either one without affecting the other. SeaMonkey won't pick up the Firefox profile, though. Instead you have to transfer it manually: <http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_SeaMonkey> In case you are really talking about Mozilla (a.k.a. as the Mozilla Application Suite): SeaMonkey will pick up and continue to use the Mozilla profiles you have. As long as you install SeaMonkey into a different location than Mozilla and stop using Mozilla after first having used one of its profiles with SeaMonkey the change should be smooth. You can then uninstall Mozilla at any time, the profiles won't be touched by that. HTH Jens There was a Mozilla ver. 1.8.1.11 and I'm running it using User Agent Switcher to make it look like I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.11. So I guess the last part of your answer applies. Are you saying that if I install SeaMonkey and use the Mozilla profile even one time that I can't use Mozilla again without screwing up the works? The purpose of my query was that I want to make sure SeaMonkey works before I un-install Mozilla. If it doesn't work right what should I do un_install it and try again? For instance, on some sites, you will have a page just for your user name first, then on the next page will be your password. So, in SM, that will be 2 entries. If you want then do this: make a backup copy of the .s and key3.db files. The .s is the password file, and the key3.db give you access to the file. Once that is done, then visit those sites, and see what happens. If nothing, then go ahead and delete them. You won't cause a problem, cause you can always replace the password file.
