Henry, there was a change in file format in the move from SM 1.x to SM
2.x. So, to be safe, you might have to install SM 1.1.19 (this should
pick up your Mozilla profile), then install SM 2.0 and the 2.1 to make
sure the file conversion occurs, and then you should be able to install
SM 2.17 ( the latest version).

All these other versions are downloaded from the bottom of
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/#2.17

Password Manager is a component inherent in SeaMonkey. It's still there.

Either:

1. Go to [Tools > Data Manager] on the SeaMonkey menu bar. Enter your
master password if requested. At the top-left where it might say "All
data types", left-click and select "Passwords only".

or

2. Go to [Edit > Preferences] on the SeaMonkey menu bar. On the left
side under Category, select [Privacy & Security > Passwords]. On the
Passwords pane, select the "Manage Stored Passwords" button, entering
your master password if requested.

Unfortunately, you can view the user IDs and passwords for only one
domain at a time. For each domain (even for only one), you must again
enter your master password if you want to see the actual passwords and
not merely the user IDs.

If you want to view all domains at once, see bug #664574 at
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=664574>, especially
comment #6.

of the comments below the article.

This article made me wonder how many of the issues/problems discussed
with Firefox are also problems found in SeaMonkey?

Questions:

1. What are your experiences with SeaMonkey compared to other browsers
such as Chrome, Opera, or other modern browser?

2. In your experience is SeaMonkey a memory hog? is is slow (i.e. slow
to open webpages)?

3. Is SeaMonkey improving or getting worse with each version?

Topic for discussion:
Apple set a goal for Mac OS X Leopard (v 10.5) that this release would
not focus on adding new features to the operating system but would focus
on stability. The result was that when Leopard was released it was one
of the better OS releases, since it was very stable. Should the
SeaMonkey (Firefox?) developers follow Apple's lead and take a pause in
the development of the application and focus for a couple of releases
only on stability issues (and security issues) rather than developing
new features?

I think it is time to pause the development of SeaMonkey and focus the
next few releases on stabilizing the application.

Well, I'm not quite sure of what you mean here, but...

If you don't want to click on a link in a message in Mozilla 1.78 Mail
and the site to be opened on the Mozilla 1.78 browser, I think you are
out of luck. While I remember some talk about an obscure setting to make
Seamonkey open links in mail on an external browser, this old version
might not support it.

Anyway, Mozilla 1.7.8 is quite an old product, I believe about six years
old, give or take. There have been numerous improvements since then,
both in features and security. You really should consider moving to a
newer product.

If you use only the mail and newsgroup parts of Mozilla/Seamonkey, you
might consider trying Thunderbird -- it does not include a browser, web
editor or chatzilla, so those components won't "take over" anything.

May be, may be :-)

You can test your configuration using this link:
https://profiles.google.com/u/0/me?tab=mr

Apparently the server is not only sniffing but also parsing the UA

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.18)

AND it doesnot work !!!

Is that identifier what you see when you select [Help> About
SeaMonkey]

from the menu bar?

Yes.

Hmmm. The Gecko version -- rv:1.9.1.15 -- and the Gecko date --
20101027 -- do not match Firefox 3.6.16. They should be rv:1.9.2.16 and
20101027, respectively.

I can think of two possibilities:

As I reported earlier, Google's server appears not only to be sniffing
the UA string but also parsing it. Perhaps, the mismatch between Gecko
and Firefox versions is causing problems.

Or perhaps the server is sniffing for a particular version of Gecko
rather than for the string "Firefox". It might want something like
1.9.2 instead of 1.9.1.

Either of these two would explain why my spoofing of Firefox 3.6.16
worked while yours did not work.

I cannot change my gecko version with about:config
Anyway ... Google must accept SeaMonkey but g...
they wrote somewhere a sentence like: "We do not discuss about other
browsers".

I use an add-on called PrefBar which allows me to spoof the User Agent.

http://prefbar.tuxfamily.org/

And I was able to defeat Google profile's browser sniff.

Does just the new version of Seamonkey have problems with Google? Should I
install an earlier version?

Each .slt folder represents one profile. AFAIK it's up to you which one
is used on import (the upgrade leaves your v.1 profile(s) intact, but
imports a copy of one profile, conforming it to v.2 specs, and placing
it in a separate folder -- this is called "migration").

But notice that *both* of the .slt folders are under Default, so when I

If you drill down to the contents of the two folders, one will have

you which is current.

2. My *present* ISP is *Comcast*. If you look at the mail.comcast.net

Depending on how your filters are set up, messages can be in any folder,
even the "wrong" account. Doesn't mean they went through tcq's mail
server. For example, you may have moved a folder from one account to
another (within the same profile), and if you did, SeaMonkey would have
automatically updated any applicable filters to point to the new location.

My concern is what will happen if I try to upgrade and import my profile
into the new SeaMonkey?

If you have several accounts but only one profile, you should be fine.
If it sees more than one profile, it will ask you to choose (by
human-readable name, not the alphabet soup used to name the .slt file)
and ignore the other one.

You didn't look at the profiles I posted. My real ISP, Comcast, has email
files dated 7/14/2007, while my old ISP, tcq.net, has email dated with files
dated Dec. 2010 and Jan. 2011.

The one .slt folder has a cache folder with files dated Jan. 2011 while the
.slt folder has files dated 2006 to 2011.

Will moving to SeaMonkey fix the errors that are in my profile and which

If they are truly duplicates -- identical for both site URI, user ID and
password -- yes, you may delete the excess entries.

Normally, you cannot actually have two entries with the same site URI
and user ID but with different passwords. If you find such an entry, be
sure to delete the one with the WRONG password.

From my own experience, certain sites cause duplicate entries. These
generally involve having form inputs and login inputs both on the same
Web page. The next time I observe this, I might submit a bug report.

Henry, did you also have to enter a "user name" for this site??

In the password manager (Tools->Password Manager->Manage Stored
Passwords), for some of my accounts, I have to enter a "user name" and a
"password", but unless I select the "Show Passwords" button, they just
show as blank entries, just like yours.

Yes I have to enter a password for these sites. It is the same

Making new profile for SeaMonkey

2009-08-23 Thread Henry
I'm now confused about making a new profile for SeaMonkey from my

My Mozilla profile is now in C;\Documents and

I get to the part in the Create Profile Wizard that wants me to Enter

I'm stuck right there and I don't know what the next question will be

You can run Firefox and SeaMonkey in parallel without any problem. You
can install/uninstall either one without affecting the other. SeaMonkey
won't pick up the Firefox profile, though. Instead you have to transfer
it manually:

<http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_SeaMonkey>

In case you are really talking about Mozilla (a.k.a. as the Mozilla
Application Suite): SeaMonkey will pick up and continue to use the
Mozilla profiles you have. As long as you install SeaMonkey into a
different location than Mozilla and stop using Mozilla after first
having used one of its profiles with SeaMonkey the change should be
smooth. You can then uninstall Mozilla at any time, the profiles won't
be touched by that.

There was a Mozilla ver. 1.8.1.11 and I'm running it using User Agent

Mozilla 1.8.1.11 suite

I have no idea what 1.8.1.11 is. Mozilla Suite never went that high.
It was either Mozilla 1.7.13 which was the last official release or
1.8ba which never made it to release.

So, I'm presuming you have the old Mozilla Suite. If so, then close
Mozilla, and click on the windows start button, then run and enter:

mozilla.exe -p

this will start the Mozilla Profile Manager. How many profiles do you
see? If one, then go ahead and delete the .slt folder with the
trash.cache in it. I'm presuming that is when you deleted the cache,
this is the directory that it created.

Otherwise, go ahead and install SM. It will pick up your last Mozilla
Suite profile and start using that.

you can remove whatever you want to remove

I got this reply from Bill Davidson. "I would be afraid that they
are not really duplicates, but you can't see the difference. That is
museum artifact code you have there."

I don't know what that means, but it makes me afraid to delete the
duplicate entries. Can I do harm? Please explain.

Henry

take a look at each entry and make sure they're not duplicates. If
they're dups, then delete them. If they're not dups, and each one is
different, then don't delete them. For example, you may log into
hotmail.com, but the server may be live.2.com or live.3.com or
something similar.

As for "museum artifact code" he's talking about the password manager
it self. The code is ancient and belongs in a museum.

If you want to see your passwords better, then I've attached
something that works great. Just save it to your hard drive, then
use the Browser, and click on File, Open File, find the file, and
open it from there. It will give you a list of all your passwords.
A lot better than the current password manager, imo though!

The program you attached works great. Here are some entries (without
passwords) that I have. Can I delete all but one of each of them?

becareful, cause the password could be on another line. For instance,
on some sites, you will have a page just for your user name first, then
on the next page will be your password. So, in SM, that will be 2 entries.

If you want then do this: make a backup copy of the .s and key3.db
files. The .s is the password file, and the key3.db give you access to
the file. Once that is done, then visit those sites, and see what
happens. If nothing, then go ahead and delete them. You won't cause a
problem, cause you can always replace the password file.

As for the "program" that I attached: its not a program, but a piece of
html javascript.

I found the key3.db file but what/where is the .s file please? Thanks
for hanging in there with me.

The Password Manager examples I gave before were the name of the site
and the user ID as seen, all on a single line. The passwords were on

does Password Manager use more than one entry for some reason?

Henry

you can remove whatever you want to remove

I got this reply from Bill Davidson. "I would be afraid that they are
not really duplicates, but you can't see the difference. That is
museum artifact code you have there."

I don't know what that means, but it makes me afraid to delete the
duplicate entries. Can I do harm? Please explain.

Henry

take a look at each entry and make sure they're not duplicates. If
they're dups, then delete them. If they're not dups, and each one is
different, then don't delete them. For example, you may log into
hotmail.com, but the server may be live.2.com or live.3.com or something
similar.

As for "museum artifact code" he's talking about the password manager it
self. The code is ancient and belongs in a museum.

If you want to see your passwords better, then I've attached something
that works great. Just save it to your hard drive, then use the
Browser, and click on File, Open File, find the file, and open it from
there. It will give you a list of all your passwords. A lot better
than the current password manager, imo though!

*MOZILLA PASSWORD INFORMATION*

The program you attached works great. Here are some entries (without
passwords) that I have. Can I delete all but one of each of them?

https://www.comcast.com wa0...@arrl.net
https://www.comcast.com wa0...@arrl.net
https://www.paypal.com 1
https://www.paypal.com wa0...@arrl.net
https://www.paypal.com 1
https://www.paypal.com 1
https://www.paypal.com 1

This is where I don't know what's safe to delete.

Thanks for you program.

I'm sorry I don't know what a museum artifact code is. I take it you
suggest I leave the duplicates.

When I go to Comcast home page, I can log in OK, but when I click on

Did you try the server
news.motzarella.org
and the group
alt.online-service.comcast
?

news.motzarella.org works fine. I've been using it for some time now.
I'll try posting to alt.online-service.comcast for a solution.

I'm having trouble getting to Comcast Smartzone, which isn't a NG but
their email program.

If people are replying to me, their replys are not getting through.
When I download the NG it shows the number of messages. When I click
on the NG some of the messages disappear. If you have replied via the
NG, please reply via my email address.
