Which version of SM? 32 or 64 bit? I am not finding it being slower
with newer versions. Quite the contrary.

Give this candidate build a whirl and see if it improves your

The "windows32" would indicate, to me, that it's 32 bit. A 64 bit might
have something like "x86_64" in the link!

No!! Of course I'd be wrong!! . Try this one

Thank you! I downloaded the installer. Still thinking about
installing it.

I'd probably not use an aurora build since it's very alpha. Stick with
release builds if you want stability.

https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-release-windows64/

Where did you see there an OFFICIAL release of SM 2.39 for 64 bits ?
You show always UNofficial versions.
Would you say that SM 64 bits is unofficial ?

None exists because 2.39 is based on 32-bit Firefox. 64-bit Firefox
didn't become official until v43 or v44 which is not what SM 2.39 is
based on. 2.40 was cancelled. I'm running 2.42 beta myself after
having run 2.41 for a while. 2.42 is based on FF 45.0. 2.41 is based
on FF 44.0. You'll be waiting until you're old and grey before the
build system is fixed. You can run the ones from ~akalla as they're
the closest thing to release you will get presently.

I am old and grey! Does that mean I'll have to wait until I'm dead and
buried (or in my case dissected by med students) before the build system
is fixed. ;)

At this point, yup. Those builds in the akalla folder are being done
on a loaner machine set up to keep things limping along until the
build system, if ever, gets straightened out. It's been about a year
since it broke so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Umm, what is the issue with hardware here? Who's providing it and why
is it broken for a year? Who owns/provides it?

And what exactly constitutes a "build system"?

I understand SM is a volunteer project but if there is a need for help
with this please be specific.

I uninstalled the new Seamonkey and re-installed the old version
(2.26.1) that I had been using and now it loads the weather super
fast. I can't understand it but something fixed it.

Thank you all for taking the time to try to help me. It's nice to
know that there is a community of users out there willing to spend
time helping an old codger like me.

Clarification: Before initially uninstalling 2.26.1 I copied all the
files in the Seamonkey directory to another place, also copied the
files from Users/appdata/ low and roaming.

Then I installed the new version without any change in behavior. I
uninstalled this but DID NOT install 2.26.1 again. I simply copied
the above files back to where they were and made an icon to start
Seamonkey and it works great. But according to Control Panel
Seamonkey is not installed. Browser brings up things faster than ever
before. Is this weird?

Sure, it's easy. If you click Help > About Seamonkey, you'll see the
(Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:45.0) part.

If yours is 32-bit, I think it will say WOW64 instead of Win64; x64.

I am under 32 bits and my "help"-"about" did not show WOW64 . here
it is:
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:41.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/41.0 SeaMonkey/2.38

Are you running your 32-bit SeaMonkey on 32-bit Windows? If so, you
wouldn't have WOW64 (G. Ross had already said he has a 64-bit system, so
I guess Thee Chicago Wolf was only giving details relevant to that case).

"WoW64" used is for running 32-bit Windows applications on 64-bit
Windows (WoW=Windows-on-Windows). Hence the rather confusing situation
on 64-bit Windows that 32-bit libraries go in %SystemRoot%\SysWoW64
while, for other reasons, 64-bit libraries go in %SystemRoot%\System32 :S

Which version of SM? 32 or 64 bit? I am not finding it being slower
with newer versions. Quite the contrary.

Give this candidate build a whirl and see if it improves your
situation:

How do you tell if 32 or 64 bit? My computer is 64 but only saw one
version of 2.39 and installed it. Note: I am 75 and my brain is 2 bit.

The "windows32" would indicate, to me, that it's 32 bit. A 64 bit might
have something like "x86_64" in the link!

No!! Of course I'd be wrong!! . Try this one

And what a goose!! Tonight I'm on Linux, so of course the link I gave

Try running in Safe Mode and see if there's any difference.

Yes, even slower.

Then it's time to bite the bullet and create a new profile.

I cleared the cache and now it times out on weather.com without
loading anything. It will load other websites. I chickened out on
clearing cookies.

The only thing you lose by clearing cookies is if you want
persistent authentication from session to session. Personally, I'm
fine with authenticating myself on a new session (especially with
using the Password Manager), but you may prefer not having to do
those logins. I'm doubtful that clearing cookies will clear this
problem, but if you can handle having to authenticate yourself once
to all the sites you log into

Many sites also store user preferences there. For example, when I visit
weather.com (which BTW loads instantly), SM prompts me with a notice
that the site wants to know my location. Obviously, different weather
stories will be of interest if I'm in Boston or Honolulu. Similarly, if
I visit YouTube and turn off Autoplay, the site saves that pref in a
cookie so I don't have to keep turning it off every time I view a new
video. If I clear the cookie, YouTube forgets my preference and resets
AutoPlay to the default ("on") value. YouTube and many other sites also
save things like volume settings in cookies, so if I play several
videos, the second and third ones start at the same 60% volume that I
chose for the first one instead of the default 100%.

I could go on all night. The point is, there's a lot more to cookies
than logins and NSA/Google tracking. If the OP tries clearing them, my
bet is it'll solve his problem because something got corrupted. But I
won't hold a gun to his head.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I will continue to use SM for
everything except for the weather. My wife uses the same version of SM
and gets the weather fine.

My guess right now is that a firewall or anti-virus program is causing
sites to load slowly.

Are you seeing slowness in other applications (especially if Seamonkey
isn't running)? If you're seeing no apparent improvement in Safe Mode
(and it's also worth seeing how things behave with a different profile),
it may be that Seamonkey is not the problem, but what's showing the
symptoms of something else.

Over the last couple of years, I've seen several computers with chronic
slowness issues (and nothing that could be attributed to tuning issues).
In each case, I found that when I ran a tool that checked the SMART
status of the hard drive, I got a report of relocated sectors.

If that happens, then that's indication of a hard drive that's in the
process of failing, and you want to get the drive replaced.

The tool that I most often use to check SMART status is Crystal Disk
Info, but I discovered recently that recent updates in Piriform's Recuva
tool will also check that, as well.

Well, if you're afraid to clear all cookies (don't wanna annoy Big
Brother?), go into the Cookie Manager and clear the weather.com cookies.
You can always enter your zip code and mother's maiden name the next
time you visit.
