I take from the message that the mail is getting out of the building but
the Charter sever does not know who we are.  I can send at my account on

Below are the current/long time in/out settings and current suggested by

mail.charter.net 110
smtp.charter.net 587

Suggested:
imap.mobile.charter.net 993
mobile.charter.net 587

pop.gmail.com 995
smtp.gmail.com 465

pop.mail.yahoo.com 995
smtp.mail.yahoo.com 465
also pop.att.yahoo.com 995
also smtp.att.yahoo.com 465

Gmail works OK in and out.  It uses the gmail outgoing server.

Trying to send from yahoo uses whatever sever is listed as default.  But
password fails. "Login to server smtp.att.yahoo.com failed."  "Enter new
password"

Sending from gmail to yahoo gets to yahoo on-line account.

Trying to DL from yahoo gets:

"Sending of password for user raydav94 did not succeed. Mail server
pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: Server error - Please try again later."

Anyone have any help for yahoo?

You are sure that this has nothing to do with the merger/rebranding

that the reason for this change is the merger/whatever.

I have a suspicion, but you'll have to test to see if it's valid.

I understand that you have several Charter mail accounts, let's call
them raydav@c***er.net, rayswife@c***er.net, and rayskid@c***er.net just
for the sake of discussion. You have them all set to use the same SMTP
server, smtp.charter.net, which authenticates with the user account
raydav@c***er.net. My suspicion is that Charter changed their server
settings to require the full email address and not just the prefix when
authenticating outgoing mail.

If you check the settings for their SMTP server under "Mail & Newsgroups
Account Settings," you might find that you've been using the prefix only
(raydav), which used to work, and not the full email address
(raydav@c***er.net) which they just started requiring. That would cause
everyone who tries to authenticate as "raydav" to be blocked. So I would
suggest as a first attempt that you enter the full address in your SMTP
server settings and see if that works.

A second possibility is that they now want raydav@c***er.net to
authenticate as raydav@c***er.net, rayswife@c***er.net to authenticate
as rayswife@c***er.net, and rayskid@c***er.net to authenticate as
rayskid@c***er.net. In that case, you'd have to set up three separate
SMTP servers in SeaMonkey, one for each user. But I rather doubt this
because then only the others should be blocked and you should still be
able to send.

Sorry for the wordy message. Hope it helps.

Before sending, take a close look at your From E-mail address and also
which account is selected. I encounter your problem with Thunderbird if
I try to send E-mail with a From address for one account while another
account is selected.

For example, I see a newsgroup message that I want to send to (not reply
to) my daughter. I select my prinary E-mail account and start composing
a message to her. I then go back to the newsgroup account to copy the
newsgroup message, which I paste into the E-mail message. Then I select
Send. Boom! It is rejected because I am in a newsgroup account and not
in an E-mail account.

I think I have also encountered the opposite, trying to copy an E-mail
message into a newsgroup reply. I select Send while still in the E-mail
account when I should be in the newsgroup account.

Hi Ray,

All I can think of is to create a new user profile with a new email
account and if this works you will know something has changed (or is
corrupted) in your old user profile.

You might download the Thunderbird email program and set up a new email
account as Thunderbird and SeaMonkey share the same email code. I hope
you can locate the source of the problem.

Email Issues

2018-05-30 Thread Dan Wong
Support,

I have been using SeaMonkey for my browser and email for almost 20 years. I
believe I am on version 2.48.

I had been using GoDaddy to host my marketing consulting website, etc. I
recently retired and closed down my website but kept my domain names
(omniface.com & wonguniverse.com), just in case retirement didn't work out. For
some savings I just moved from my existing email servers to their Office 365
exchange server after GoDaddy assured me there would be no complications.
However, it was naive of me and I find that the folders I had originally set up
have not automatically set up in the new email when I retrieve. The contents,
apparently, do still exist as I can access them via browser, but all attempts
to try and create folders/sub-folders do not seem to work.

GoDaddy techs tell me that there probably is a way to instruct SeaMonkey to
treat the Office 365 server as IMAP and fix things. I would like to continue
using SeaMonkey for my email, as you can imagine, I am comfortable and quite
settled. I am being pushed to use Outlook, unless you can offer a solution.
Please tell me that there is a fix. Thanks.

is done, and I do plan to switch to 2.x, but I need to figure
this out first.)

I am having the following problems:

Personal account:

junk mail doesn't go to junk folder -- goes to trash
(although junk filter is set to send it to junk folder)

junk mail is automatically marked as read

the junk filter is obviously not updating with the new junk
messages as junk messages from the same source, or similar
messages from different sources (messages with garbled "from"
addresses pitching various drugs and other medical stuff)
keep showing up in the inbox

David, I've only got SM 2.0 installed on this puter, but I
think the settings are largely the same so see if the settings
for your mail account for the Junk Filter are set in two
places:- 1:- Under Edit->Preferences->Mail & Newsgroup->Junk &
Suspect Mail, and, 2:- Under Edit->Mail & Newsgroup Account
Settings, select Junk Mail settings under your Mail account.

Make sure these settings are not contradicting each other.

Business account:

puts junk mail in junk folder but still marks as read

is supposedly set to automatically download messages but does
not (at least not reliably)

posts I make to newsgroups that I subscribe to under that
account don't show anymore. I only know they posted when
someone replies to them, then I can see from the reply that
my post is what they are replying to. (I can't even find a
setting that would seem to affect that). Re-doing the msf
file does not help.

Same as above but for your Business mail account.

I tried SM 2.0 when it came out, it didn't import any of my
settings, email, bookmarks, etc., I didn't have time to try
to figure that out so I uninstalled it and reinstalled 1.18.
This was 4 months ago, things have been messed up at least
since then.

I suspect that I may need to mess with about:config to fix
some of this stuff, but I have no idea what settings to look
at.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Daniel

Thanks, Daniel, but no joy.

The following settings are the same for both personal and
business accounts.

1: Under Edit->Preferences->Mail & Newsgroup->Junk Mail: "Global
Junk Mail Settings" -- "When I mark messages as junk" -- Move
them to the account's "Junk" folder -- IS selected [other option
is to delete them -- NOT selected] -- "Mark messages determined
to be junk as read" -- IS NOT selected -- "Enable junk filter
logging" -- IS selected

2: Under Edit->Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings, select Junk
Mail settings under your Mail account -- "Enable adaptive junk
mail controls for this account" -- IS selected -- "Do not mark
mail as junk if the sender is in: Personal Address Book" -- IS
selected -- "Trust junk mail headers set by:" -- IS NOT selected
-- "Move new junk messages to" "'junk' folder on [account name]"
-- IS selected "other" -- IS NOT selected "Automatically delete
junk mail older than [XX] days" -- IS NOT selected

Another glitch, which I again discovered, is that when I look at
the settings for "2: Under Edit->Mail & Newsgroup Account
Settings, select Junk Mail settings under your Mail account" --
on my personal account the "OK button doesn't work unless I
change something, the only way to get out of it is to hit
"Cancel." On my business account, the "OK button works even if I
don't change anything (the same as how it would work in any other
software).

The settings show as they should be, but they aren't working.
Obviously something is messed up somewhere in my profile. I want
to get it fixed before I switch to SM 2, or else figure a way to
get a fresh profile in SM 2 and transfer all my data over so I
don't have these issues.

Thanks, Dave

O.K., next suggestion might be to try a new profile for your two
mail accounts.

Go to Tools->Switch Profiles and then select "Manage Profile" and
then "Create Profile". Set up a new profile. For simplicity, set it
to leave the mail on your mail server, then you can change back to
your real profile and download these messages again, so that all
your mail is in the main profile.

Set these new mail profiles up to do what you want with the Junk
mail. If this works, then we'll get back to your main profile.

Report back.

As far as junk mail:

In my main profile, the email screens do not have the column between
"Sender" and "Recipient" that has the blue/white asterisk (or

whatever it is) at the top-- the column where you can mark a message
as junk. That column is present in the test profile, that applies for
both the personal account and the business account.

It's a little blue trash can with a white envelope sticking out of it,
at least in my version of SM.

This is easily controlled by the user. At the right end of the column
headings, there's a funny-looking little icon (I never did figure out
what it was supposed to be) with no content beneath it. Click the icon
and you can toggle on/off any of the various column headings; the one in
question here is "Junk status." Your test profile evidently has it
because that's the default. My column headings don't include "Recipient"
because I turned it off; my preferences are Subject, Sender, Date,
Status, Lines. YMMV.

If you want the columns to appear in a different order, simply drag/drop
the headings to where you want them. Resize by dragging the dividers.

I'll leave the rest of your issues for others to address.

for your mail account for the Junk Filter are set in two
places:- 1:- Under Edit->Preferences->Mail & Newsgroup->Junk &

Thanks, Daniel, but no joy.

The following settings are the same for both personal and
business accounts.

1: Under Edit->Preferences->Mail & Newsgroup->Junk Mail: "Global

Daniel

Sorry for not getting back sooner, and for the length of this. I
wanted to give Daniel's suggestion (of a second "test" profile) some
time to work to see if things were working right. In the process I
was able to determine a few things that explain the problems more,
though I still don't know why they started happening.

As far as junk mail:

In my main profile, the email screens do not have the column between
"Sender" and "Recipient" that has the blue/white asteris

Thank you, it was so basic, that it worked. Leave nothing to chance.

Warmest regards,

Hello all.. I Am using SM 2.0 under Win XP Pro. The issue I have as of
late is that when viewing email in some of my folders, after opening the
message and leaving the folder, the message disappears completely. I
have tried compacting the folders and that did not work.

Any suggestions or ideas as to the challenge here?

TIA...
