Have you tried the "Show Parent Folder" extension?

Hadn't heard of it,
But in the meantime I've been working on a Tcl/Tk script to
create a customized bookmarks.html formatted the way I want. It
lists the folders in the same order as SeaMonkey's Bookmarks menu
item. Today's task is to flag duplicate URL's.

I'm partial to standalone apps rather than "improvements" that
modify an existing installation.

It adds a folder column to search results in the bookmark
manager, letting a user locate and move bookmarks right in the
standard bookmark manager, without exporting to HTML. (I had to
convert it to make it work in Seamonkey.)

CheckPlaces can find duplicates. It works in SeaMonkey as well as
Firefox. It is no longer at the Mozilla addons site, but it is
obtainable from here:
http://daniel-lange.com/archives/71-SyncPlaces,-SortPlaces-...-preserving-these-and-other-excellent-Firefox-add-ons.html

Another tool that may be worth looking at is AM-Deadlink, to find out
how many bookmarks resolve to invalid URLs:
http://www.aignes.com/deadlink.htm

The caveat on this one is that it's no longer supported, and with
Mozilla browsers using a database, rather than a flat file for
bookmarks, you don't want to use it to delete bookmarks directly
(instead, use it to identify dead bookmarks, and delete/modify from the
bookmark tool).

AM-Deadlink is an application that is usable only with Windows.

Are you sure all those bookmarks are still valid? I use
CheckPlaces from time to time just to make sure that all the

Some of the URL's may indeed be dated. But I still need the
data they once pointed pointed to. As the last step of my reorganization
I'll search out a current reference or look it up in "The Wayback

You might try creating some folders for categories of bookmarks
that you know you have, and maybe organize 200 or so of them at a
time and do the job over several sessions.
