It does indeed, and if the page to which it took me would
stop wittering on about bl@@dy Firefox and realise that
I am a Seamonkey user (shout it from the rooftops), then
I would be positively ecstatic. Still only three levels
of zoom from Ctrl +/-, though :-(

Well, unless you tell the website maintainers about the issue, you
cannot expect it to mysteriously solve itself automatically, can you?

Still only three levels of zoom from Ctrl +/-, though :-(

From
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.5/changes#fixesB1:

View/Zoom allows to choose from more levels now, which can also be
configured by a hidden preference (toolkit.zoomManager.zoomValues, which
needs to be reset manually once in order to actually have more zoom
levels) (bug 621823).

No difference, Hartmut : in safe mode, and with new
profile, exactly the same behaviour -- no effect when
clicking on Check to see if your plugins are up
to date. Incidentally, this string (and all those
below, in the Add-Ons manager) are not copyable --
this seems to be a new feature of Seamonkey, ever
since its adoption of what appears to be a clone of
the Flash paradigm for presenting information that has
no need of Flashlike functionality whatsoever. I am
afraid that I continue to think that Seamonkey is
blindly following fashion without any consideration
as to whether the current fads are in any way useful
to the end user. Rant over.

Totally unrelated, but Seamonkey is, with increasing
frequency, stalling while displaying (e.g.,) connecting
to l.addthiscdn.com (or thumbs2.ebay.com. or wherever),
using 97%+ cpu, and not relinquishing that cpu on hitting
escape, despite the fact that it claims to have stopped
trying to connect to wherever. To regain the lost CPU
requires a full kill of Seamonkey and a re-start. The
execrable Internet Explorer, on the other hand, has no
such problems, to the point where I am actually being
forced to use it to visit some sites.

Yes, about:plugins does have a link Find updates for installed
plugins at mozilla.com/plugincheck. that goes to
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/. Of 10 plugins on my
system, however, 6 are indicated as Unknown plugin. Those unknowns
include 3 from RealNetworks (e.g., RealPlayer) and 2 from Micro$oft.

More important, going to [Tools Add-ons Manager] on the SeaMonkey menu
bar and selecting the Plugins icon in the left margin shows a list of
plugins. At the top of the list, there seems to be a link Check to see
if your plugins are up to date. This is underlined and in the color of
an unvisited link; hovering my cursor over it turns my cursor into a
hand, further indicating a link. Disabling CSS shows that this is a
button. In any case, this link is a no-op; hovering my cursor over it
shows no URI in the status bar.

Go to about:plugins to get the update status of plugins does work, but
only for some plugins. Going to the Add-ons Manager for the update
status does not work.

Rather disturbingly, no, Jim : it tells me it is checking Firefox
plugins, not Seamonkey ... Same for both 2.0.14 and 2.4.1.

I get that same page, it says Firefox, but it is checking my SeaMonkey

OK, so presumably it's just wrongly-cloned text rather than
a functionally incorrect page : that at least is reassuring.
Now if only I could get there from Tools / Add-on Manager !

That one. Dysfunctional here. If I do a full remove
and re-install of Seamonkey 2.4.1, what is the probability
that it will lose my settings in the process ?

 Jim

It only checks enabled plugins, not disabled ones. It checked only four
of my enabled plugins. Six others, it said Unknown plugin. The
unknowns included three from RealNetworks (e.g., RealPlayer) and two
from Micro$oft.

Disabling CSS shows that this is a
 button.  In any case, this link is a no-op;

 Time for a screenshot.

I wrote about this link 'Check... ' and i do hope that there was no
 misunderstanding by the others. ;)

Well, this link works on my 2.8.a1.

hovering my cursor over it shows no URI in the status bar.

 Same here.

 Hartmut

That is the link that I was referring to that works for me in 2.4.1
and after restarting SeaMonkey it now shows the correct url in the
 address bar ( http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ ) also.

 Jim

Is that via about:plugins? Or is that via [Tools Add-ons Manager]?

AFAIK, it should call up Mozilla's plugin check website and there some
JS runs and analyzes your plugins, telling it newer versions are
available, and if so, giving you links to install those.

When I visit about:addons, the status bar says Waiting for
static-cdn.addons.mozilla.net for the longest time... After about five
minutes, it finally displays a list of available addons. Then when I
click Plugins on the left, I quickly get a list of installed plugins,
plus the link you mention, and that takes me here:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/. This works.

I am send to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ which will e.g.
update my mozplugger. Impossible because that would require root rights
and also i do not want that, mozplugger is handled by my Gentoo. *g*
