Re: Another SM 2.22 problem with drawing sub-screens

to come out), and even more specifically, on my Win7 install, I've noted

it on my Linux SM 2.22B2 installation.)

At Edit-Preferences-Appearance-Spelling, I have selected to Check spelling
before sending, no problem, except if an error in spelling is found (rare
though that may be ... NOT ;-) ), the Send button is cut in half by the bottom
edge of that window. There is no scroll bar, nor can I just drag the bottom edge
of this screen down.

This may be tied up with a problem I've seen reported here (by MCBasto or Rufus,
I think) for a while with SeaMonkey not fully drawing sub-screens on Mac's or
another problem reported here regarding the font/line spacing in the Accounts
and Threads Panes in SM 2.22. Don't know, but maybe!!

Anybody else seeing this problem??

Short answer, yes, once in a while, and often when I really NEED to see the
whole subwindow. Can't move it, and the scroll bar disappears (sometimes), but
if I just need to click submit I can change font size smaller until I can see
the button. Other times I skip sites which do that, or use Firefox if I must.
All on Linux...

Somehow, I recall a bug report about this. It might have been a
different dialogue window (e.g., Find, Master Password). I have
searched the list of bugs that I am tracking, however, and cannot find it.

You're right, David, it was the Master Password dialogue window, but on

I first noticed this in the Master Password dialog on the Mac in all
releases after 2.13.2 and submitted bug 817318 against SM 2.14.1, but
that one has been resolved/closed as a duplicate - but it's still
broken.

The superseding bug is bug 812050, and is also written against the Mac
version (as I submitted) but the problem now appears to be a bit more
broad in scope.

More and more people appear to also be seeing this in the Win version
and in more places than I've seen the problem - I verified today that I
also see it in the confirmation for Message Send dialog in the Mac
version of SM 2.22.

I hadn't seen this before because I don't generally use the
command+enter shortcut, but I'm starting to think that people who invoke
more drop downs than I do are seeing more of this than I am, and that
goes for both Mac and Win versions of SM.

From what I've read here the fix is to use the Default theme...I'd
switch browsers first.

And it also appears from some of what I've read here that Windows users
are seeing this too, though the problem may have introduced itself into
the Win version at some time later than I first observed it - I've been
the lone voice on the issue until recently.

releases after 2.13.2 and submitted bug 817318 against SM 2.14.1, but
it's been resolved/closed as a duplicate - and it's still broken. The
duplicate bug is bug 812050, and is also written against the Mac version
(as I submitted) but appears to be a bit more broad in scope.

Now more and more people appear to also be seeing this in the Win
version and in more places than I've seen the problem - I still only see
it with the Master Password request in the Mac version of SM 2.22. I've
never tried to drag the box open farther...I'll see if I can even do that.

To get around the problem I've halted at SM 2.13.2 on the machines I use
most.

Rufus,

if you compose a message, and then use the keyboard shortcut CMD-Enter,
does the confirm send this message? drop-dialog-window stop short?

that can't be dragged around, its attached.

On my system, it's easily dragged, like the spell-check dialog.

And FWIW, it's not too small, unlike the spell-check dialog.

If you can put your cursor on the title bar of the Spell Check window

O.K., when next I'm in Win7, I'll try to remember this suggestion, David.

O.K., I typed that garbage and pressed Send and, surprise, surprise,

Now to see if it stays!!

Nope!! The part drawn screen re-appeared!!

You mean in dialog boxes with buttons near the bottom? I have seen that
happen and I can prevent that by editing the dialog.css file in the
global directory in a theme installer. I add a bottom margin (of at
least 10px) after the area that adds a top margin for the buttons.
   That is easy enough since I use third party themes.

...I'd asked if this was possible a *long* time ago...care to share how
you do that? I never got an answer.

In the global directory inside the theme installer there is a file named
dialog.css. If you extract that from the archive, you can edit it and
this section of it has the change I recommend.

/* : dialog buttons : */

.dialog-button {
  margin-top: 3px;
margin-bottom: 13px;
}

After editing, just save the file, then insert it back into the theme
archive and install the theme.
The application I am using to manipulate archives is BetterZip, which is
excellent. It is not free, but the price is reasonable and it is worth it.
Two examples of good up-to-date themes for SeaMonkey are EarlyBlue and
LCARStrek.
