Suggestion to simplify interaction with the list :

The current configuration of the list shows the poster as the sender.
So if someone replies to a message, by default it goes (only) to the
sender, and not the list. (reply-to-all also goes only to the sender.)
To correct this, there should be a reply-to line, which means a reply by
default (only) goes to the list.
With a reply-to line, reply-to-all will go to the list + the sender.

I read this via newsgroup in Seamonkey. When I choose to reply, I'm offered a
choice
of replying to the newsgroup or sender only.

If I pick reply all I can send to newsgroup AND sender.

Which means that I get emails from people that are referring to messages
that I might never have read in the newsgroup/list. A real waste of
time trying to sort out. Or,if threads I'm involved in, I now have TWO
points of involvement when I only want one.

Just post to the list/newsgroup and leave it at that. REPLY *not* REPLY
ALL. Please!

Sean, that's because you post direct to the newsgroups, not via the
list, which, as I understand it, means that those who view these group
via the list, effectively, receive one e-mail containing all the
responses to the newsgroup.

Because they then reply to the list, their replies go directly to the
original poster, and not to the news group.

If everyone was able to subscribe to groups-google (cough! cough!) or
directly to the newsgroups via the news server, we wouldn't be having
these problems, but not everyone is willing to do this.

To each their own!!

Are you confuzing a ListServer with a NewsServer (which is what THIS is)?

This forum is both. The newsgroup is bidirectionally mirroring the mailing list
and
Google Group.

How could one see that from this side only?

My SM 1119 reader shows both a To: support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org
and a Newsgroup: mozilla.support.seamonkey

I only see that when I expand headers :-) SM2.22

Thanks for the explanation.

Thank you for the heads up on the header expansion / compaction.

No.  This (support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org) is a LIST-Server;
you may choose to read the messages via Usenet News; others do not.

Using Reply to Newsgroup goes to the newsgroup, list and the GG

That Reply-to: indicate to where replies /to the reply/
