Ive used the Orion - there was some driver issues - there was some setup
thing that required the an internet connection as well which proved a pain
as the machine was on site and not online

[Sursound] A-format to B-format Conversion and Calibration Files

2018-06-05 Thread Gerard Lardner
What A-format to B-format VST encoders exist that can encode recordings
from an ambisonic microphone for which I have calibration files in the
form of IIRs? I can use the stand-alone version of VVMic; it works well.
But is there a reliable VST equivalent that will use the same
calibration files?

I know about VVEncode; but I am having some problems with it. I think
these may be down to my PC rather than to VVEncode, which is why I would
like to try an alternative.

The mic in question is a Brahma, but it was re-calibrated in VVMic format.

A second question: Is there any way to convert calibration files from
IIR format (as used by VVMic) into .WAV format (as used by X-Volver or
Brahmavolver) and vice versa?

Have heard good things about the Horus, too, but
never used it. A nice alternative (possibly a
bit mor affordable) would be three DirectOut
Andiamo MC feeding a dual MADI system, or two and a Mictasy.

Btw, nice usage of the word "few" there. Classy.
A quick calculation tells me you mean "seven or
so". That's the number of SM58s I use on a good

scared thinking of your usecase :-D

Well put -- except that 72/8 = 9!

Re: [Sursound] Big Pre-amps?

2018-06-05 Thread TON Eichinger

Hi Len,
get 2x Merging Horus, its audio quality is extremely good and its
affordable:

http://www.merging.com/products/networked-audio
You can do up to 96 channels of preamp and 96 channels of AD conversion
in just 4 rack units.
Connect them via a switch to a computer, it replaces a soundcard plushas
a headphone output on board.

The ideal companion is Merging Pyramix workstation
http://www.merging.com/products/pyramix/
http://www.merging.com/products/pyramix/masscore-native
It can record up to 96 track at 192 kHz, or 64 channels at 384 kHz, DXD,
DSD256

Cheers,
Othmar Eichinger

Re: [Sursound] Big Pre-amps?

2018-06-05 Thread Marcus Wrangö
Hi!

I would look into an AVB-solution from Motu, they have a 2U 16-channel rack
unit with digitally controlled preamps, a couple of those and a AVB-switch
would probably be a cost effective solution. I haven’t used the new motu
preamps but the AVB racks DAC’s sound great for price.

Best,

They use these at MCO 2 and 3 in the Netherlands. Many of the Metropole Orkest
albums that you hear are through them after a Neve VR legend.

[Sursound] Open-source Spatial Audio VST library - SPARTA

2018-06-05 Thread McCormack Leo
Hello all!

I just wanted to quickly share a link to a new open-source spatial audio VST
plug-in library developed at Aalto University, Finland.

The library aims to fill in some of the gaps left by other spatial audio VST
libraries. So we hope that they may prove useful to the community : )

Currently, the library includes the following plug-ins:

  * AmbiDEC: a frequency-dependent Ambisonic decoder for loudspeakers or
headphones; with SOFA file support.
  * AmbiENC: a basic Ambisonic panner supporting up to 64 input channels and
up to 7th order output.
  *   Array2SH: converts microphone array signals into Ambisonic signals;
includes presets for A-format mics, Zylia array, Eigenmike etc.
  *   Binauraliser: direct HRTF-based binauraliser up to 64 input channels;
with SOFA file support.
  *   Panner: a frequency-dependent 3-D VBAP panner.
  * Powermap: displays the relative sound energy for multiple directions
using Ambisonic signals as input; it includes PWD, MVDR, and MUSIC algorithms.
  * Rotator: an Ambisonic rotator, which supports head-tracking via OSC
messages.
  *   SLDoA: a frequency-dependent Direction-of-Arrival estimator, which
operates on Ambisonic signals up to 7th order.

For more information and for the VST download links, please see:
http://research.spa.aalto.fi/projects/sparta_vsts/

The source code can be found here: https://github.com/leomccormack/SPARTA

Cheers!

Leo

We found Antelope Audio's (https://en.antelopeaudio.com) MP32 32-channel
mic pre-amp, and its Orion and Goliath interfaces.

The interfaces come in USB, Thunderbolt and HDX versions, and are
expandable via MADI. 64 channels is do-able.

Has anyone used these? Any comments on sound quality and software
stability?
