[svg-developers] Render dynamic graphs in SVG

2004-11-05 Thread Taras Bahnyuk

Hi guys,

Today I happened to come across the article about
rendering dynamic graphs in SVG.
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/library/x-svggrph/?ca=dnt-544

I post it here beacause I belive many of you will find
it interesting, and some may find it usefull too. I
wish I had it two month ago, when struggling with my
charts :-)

Greetings,
barmalini

RE: [svg-developers] Re: Re: SVG 1.2 feedback: SVGTimer Inteface - does this add anything?

2004-11-05 Thread Rick Bullotta

Personally, I like the "separation of church and state" that having a timer
interface in SVG would provide, eliminating yet another container
dependency.

The other thing I'd love to see in both SVG and ECMAScript is much richer
XML handling (Xpath support, for example)...

The speed issue certainly makes sense and may be a good enough reason to
implement SVGTimer given that it will be needed quite a bit.

In the bugzilla comments there was this from Brendan Eich:

"No, October 28th will see a new face-to-face meeting of the ECMA
technical group. I'll make sure this gets some attention there."

So does anyone know what happened there?

[svg-developers] SVG Transparency??

2004-11-05 Thread satnut28

Hi All,

Just wondering if someone can help me on this one. I'm trying to
display an SVG file with a transparent background in IE. I can get
it to work fine using the embed tag with wmode="transparent", but I
fine it takes a long time to render the images on my screen. I have
about 80 SVG graphics on screen. When I use the tag,
rendering speed is increased dramatically, but I can't for the life
of me figure out how to get the transparency to work. When I apply
wmode with the object tag, the whole images becomes transparent.
Here is the code

CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE!!!

SVG 1.2 requires DOM 3 XPath support.

Well I think the WG isn't generally lazy in "finding a way with existing
tools". What's already there simply doesn't work.

Rendering speed is slow because of the transparency, not because of embed,
you won't improve performance, transparency is really expensive!

[svg-developers] Html SVG Communication/ParseXML (Windows)

2004-11-05 Thread Adam

Hello all, I've been all over the place trying to find a solution for
this... here goes...

I have an html page with an embeded svg document. I want the html
page to "tell" the svg when it needs to go and fetch an update from
the server. The svg is updated with our favorite Adobe function:
parseXML.

Because I must use the Adobe script implementation, I cannot
use 'parent' or 'top' to reach the html page.

Any ideas as to how I can make that connection?

Below is a portion of the svg code (probably shouldn't need it
though...).

you've not explained why you "MUST" use the adobe script implementation,
there's no realisitic way to do what you want without doing so

There's a number of hacks of course, but nothing as easy as simply removing
whatever it is that is requiring the Adobe engine.

I was under the impression that the parseXML method could only be
used explicitly with the adobe script implementation...

Obviously, I was wrong. Problem solved. (been messing with this for

[svg-developers] link a SVG file into another SVG file?

2004-11-05 Thread pappy_byngtn

Is it possible to link a SVG file into another SVG file. So the root
SVG file will load/unload a external svg file when called? Similar
to changing the display value within a tag?

I have several large SVG files that need to overlay each other and I
am trying to limit the file size. Can anyone suggest a method or an
example?

You can use getURL to get your file, then parseXML and appendChild
to add nodes to your . You can remove these childs then.

As you speak from "large" files, you can have some problem, I use
large XML files and I see that IE don't clear memory used by
parseXML so performance decrease along operations. Perhaps there is
a method to remove nodes created by parseXML after appendChild ?

To see example, see some examples of load / unload widgets at
http://pilat.free.fr/english/svg_lib/index.htm
