RE: [svg-developers] Odd polygon behavior
Hi, Rerun- If you're trying to make the whole appear, simply use the attribute/value: fill-rule='nonzero' (default is 'evenodd'). I haven't looked at it closely, but I suspect that the inner path is going the wrong way (that is, deasil or widdershins) with respect to the outer path. Fortunately, you can't, because this mailing list doesn't allow to attach files to messages (or actually remove them before diffusion). "Fortunately" because the only people that send files are spammers and virus/worm spreaders. This file is obviously in the later category, since a .pif file is executable (a kind of shortcut to a Dos exe) and despite the reassuring pseudo anti-virus check message ("No, no, I am not dangerous", says the mad man hiding something behind his back...) you can be sure the file is harmful. Oh, and the virus sender impersonates the identity of a well known personality of the SVG world, to add more importance to the message... Elaboration. The hole in the first one is the result of an intersection, and not the second. I cut and pasted a hole I knew to work into the same svg file, replacing the one that does not to create the 2nd svg file. This way I was comparing apples to apples. [svg-developers] Ultra Lightweight SVGs - Static Background?
Hi there everyone. I'm doing some experimentation with SVG, for a possible future project. The project involves distributing SVG graphics to mobile devices, with an emphasis on keeping the files as tiny as possible. Co-incidentally, the only hefty chunk of XML will be for the background. (It's a map, on which is displayed different information.) Is there a way (preferably without Javascript etc, as we're trying to keep things generic and multi-platform,) to prevent the complex background lines from being reloaded each time? I'm uncertain how SVG is/will be implemented in mobiles in the future, and even more uncertain about if giving the browser a 'remember-this-layer-and-don't-download-it-again' directive is even possible. Please let me know if I'm just a dreamer. ;) Thanks in advance. - To unsubscribe send a message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -or- visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/svg-developers and click "edit my membership" Yahoo! [svg-developers] Object orienting SVG
Hi all. This is my case. I've recently made a stand alone text editor in SVG. This is supposed to be used as a supplement to an SVG application which requires the possibility to add commetns to elements. Multiple textboxes at the same time sal be possible which lead to this: I want to "objectify" my project with javascript. I've declared a class/function named textBox. This holds all the necessary attributes for a text box. I've also made a bunch of functions like textBox.addChar, textBox.delChar, and so on. One of the attributes in a textBox instance holds the SVG element and all it's children, for drawing the text box on screen with it's contents. To know which text box to handle the events (clicking, typing, etc.) I must somehow make a link between the SVG element that captures the event and the instance of textBox that represents the element. Are there any ways to make this connection? Thanks all. [svg-developers] Show a Java User Form when clicking on a rect
Hi! Is it possible to show a user form (written in Java) after a click on a rectangle? The user box should have some edit fields where the user can type in some data (e.g. data for a circle) and with this data I will draw a circle when clicking ok in the user form. How can I do this? Can anybody show me an example? Thanks tam - To unsubscribe send a message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -or- visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/svg-developers and click "edit my membership" Yahoo! It'll take a little while but an SVG validator that works better much than that is being worked on. The RNG that's in 1.2 will go a long way in helping > Even if DOCTYPEs don't have clear uses to you, why so strongly > discourage their use unless they are actively harmful? There's a bunch of issues, but just to pick a few: - they'll give false positives. This is true of all schema languages as none of them can express sufficient constraints, but in the case of DTDs they are so ridiculously under-expressive that the content models of some elements are really, really loose compared to what the spec requires. After DTD validation you still don't know that you haven't done something really stupid. - they'll give false negatives. This is quite seriously broken. If you rely on DTDs to tell you when something is broken, you might well end up spending hours trying to debug a document that seems perfectly fine only to realize at the end that it's just the DTD being wrong. This is not the fault of the authors of the SVG DTD, it is simply impossible to author a DTD that will not give false negatives. - they're namespace-unaware. You know better than I do that the number one mistake is to forget the namespace. DTDs won't catch that because they don't know about namespaces. - they don't wildcard. It is perfectly fine in SVG to introduce elements and attributes in other namespaces, and there even are extension points dedicated to that. Unless you modify the DTD, this will always give you a false negative. So when they say OK they really haven't checked anything, when they say NOT OK they might be on crack, and like all namespace-unaware things they're a dead branch of the XML tree. [svg-developers] defs and use parameters
Hello, I want to do define a structure and use that structure several times, each with a different set of parameters. Anyone knows how to do this? Example: The problem is I have no idea how I can specify the parameters? Of course this is a simple example and more special parameters will be used like stroke colors and even own defined tags (extension mechanism in Batik) Any help is welcome!
