David, please elaborate on this. My first reaction is that HTML solves a *lot* of problems in the world, in the sense that Web applications exist and do valuable work. Are you saying something like, "the front page of Google doesn't *need* HTML; except for the searchbox, we could do everything in SVG"? I hope not--I hope you're making some different point that I'm missing. - To unsubscribe send a message to: svg-developers-unsubscr...@yahoogroups.com -or- visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/svg-developers and click "edit my membership" Yahoo! As I haven't kept up with the exact source in play, I can't be certain; I suspect, though, that your JavaScript coding simply is mistaken. [svg-developers] I seek a 3D CAD-like development package
An academic with whom I work needs a development package. While I doubt that SVG is part of the best solution at the moment, it might be, and, in any case, this group is likely to know where I can better look. He wants to do what I call hydraulic modeling: he's (effectively) an economist who needs to visualize graphs of connected reservoirs, along with the flows between them. This is fairly routine stuff: networks or graphs of vertices or nodes, which can be edited visually. Crucial with him is that he wants viewers to be able to perform 3D rotations, so they can see the flows and reservoirs "on the back side" of the model. We'll need a little programmability at the nodes, so we can, for example, have a node flash red if its level hits an alarm condition. This is standard stuff. I've done things like this for over twenty years. I'm asking for help, though, because I'd love to re-use some standard, lightweight, Web package, so we can concentrate on the economic content. Is this ringing any bells with anyone? My guess is that there's a JavaScript-Canvas-based product "out there" already, and I just need to find it. - To unsubscribe send a message to: svg-developers-unsubscr...@yahoogroups.com -or- visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/svg-developers and click "edit my membership" Yahoo! I know mathematics, and SVG, but I truly don't see the connection you're making here. I suspect a lot of it has to do with "simple way"--no, it's a certainty that pathologic cases will break any such scheme you propose, but, yes, if you have information about the matrix that perhaps is obvious to you, but I don't apprehend, then useful visualizations are feasible. I'd love to understand better what you have in mind. [svg-developers] Request for help with Canvas and Flash
I'd welcome help responding to the comment from 'a1programmer' which appears in http://www.dzone.com/links/how_html5_will_change_your_software_development_a.html >. I am too inexperienced in Flash to follow-up with confidence on my own. More detail: the article in question (note that a1programmer seems to have at least one other, unknown to me, in mind) only touches peripherally on SVG. I write to this mailing list, though, because it's the home of the people *I* know who are best with Canvas and Flash. Also, when I write, "... welcome help ...", what I have in mind is that someone more expert than I writes on his own behalf. - To unsubscribe send a message to: svg-developers-unsubscr...@yahoogroups.com -or- visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/svg-developers and click "edit my membership" Yahoo!
