I guess MJ will have eat his hat. He said, I think, that Kenderis would
never win another Champs 200.

He also admitted that he was wrong about that - something a boatload of announcers
should try.

You have to realize that it's the ATHLETES who are wrong, NEVER the on-air

Agreed .. While I understand that the Olympics is THE race of the year

winning the Olympics .. He won some important European races and had the best
overall season .. I've rated Kederis as high as #2 but could easily be
considered 3 or even 4 depending on your logic/view .. But #1 is a stretch ..

I agree. Level and extent of competition should also have alot to do with
rankings. Unfortunately, the 200m also suffered this year from a "transition"
type stage. MJ, Mike Marsh, Floyd Heard, Frank Fredricks are in the twilight
of their careers and succumbed to injuries. John Capel, Mo Greene, Coby
Miller, and the Brits are trying to arrive in the 200m, but just haven't
gotten there yet. Kenteris is a noteworthy runner and deserves a ranking, but
not just from one race. Opportunist is a word that quickly comes to mind...

Conway you are a genius. How do we rank the 200 this
year? Based on season results, Ato is number 1, MJ is number 2, and I would
probably go with Oba as number 3. All of which is arguable. If we
go with the OG theme, then KK takes top honors, followed by Ato, MJ and
Darren Campbell, and Oba. How interesting...

Exactly Darrell .. Probably the toughest event to
rank this year .. MJ has the times .. Kederis the Olympic gold .. Crawford was
NCAA champ and Capel the Trials winner .. And you can't forget Miller's whole
season (it wasn't bad) ... I have trouble with Kederis as #1 .. He won Olympic
gold ina let down race .. And MJ won nothing of significance .. I would
have to agree with Ato as number one as he had the most significant wins and
medalled at the games .. Then I guess Kederis # 2 off the gold .. Oba #3 off his
season .. MJ # 4 off his times .. Then maybe Campbell # 5 off the Olympics
...Capel # 6 off his Trials win and Olympic rounds (although I know they really
don't count) ... Miller #7 off his season .. And then toss the rest in the air
.. Curious as to how the voters (and others out there) see it ??

Allow me to chime in here. Considering this was a down year for the event and no one
in particular stands out I would think that greater emphasis would be placed on honors
won and the Olympic Gold Medalist won a pretty big honor.
For lack of any outstanding candidate I would give it to the Greek.

Now this is an interesting line of reasoning.
Kenteris won one race, ran one race outside of Greece, and you are willing to discount everyone else's season because his victory was the OG.

I do not think he has races to support his tremendous victory. Too many 19.8's, and 19.9's to outweigh.

We Yanks have always been well ahead of the rest of the world when it comes
