Re: Seeking Your Input

2015-05-28 Thread Lynn White via Talk
I would like that, whenever Windows explorer decides to crash that
Window-Eyes won't free up and nothing will work except pressing the
button to force a shutdown.

This is not good for the computer.

On 5/28/2015 3:18 PM, Ray Campbell via Talk wrote:

Hello Jeremy:

The top three things I would like to see in Window-Eyes are:
1. An OCR feature, where you could scan and recognize unknown graphical
images. Sometimes, there are items on the screen which are labeled with
images. At least one other screen reader has this kind of a capability.
Sometimes, you need to be able to find and click on these things.
2. Something that will allow someone using Window-Eyes to work with
TeamViewer and other remote support type programs, so that a Window-Eyes
user can remotely help someone. This would help people who are blind to be
able to work providing technical support.
3. For Window-Eyes to work with applications like GoToMeeting and Webex.
These are applications being used more and more in business, but to my
knowledge, no screen reader works with them. Both sides of these kinds of
apps need to be accessible, whetherr you are setting up a meeting or
participating in a meeting.

2015-05-28 Thread Chris Skarstad via Talk
If I had to have one thing different, I really, really, really wish we
could go back to the old way of selecting text on a web page. All of
the other screenreaders do it the standard way with the control and
shift and arrow keys. I understand that the f8 selection method is more
of like a sighted person does it, but I've often found it to be clunky
at best. Either that or it's operator error, I'm not sure. So that's my
idea. I don't know if selecting text relies on the way WE reads a
webpage, but it'd sure be nice to do it the same way all the other major
screenreaders do it.

Stop crashing and be more stable. Rather than adding on things, create a
product which works the way it is supposed to work. I can do things with
NVDA I simply cannot do with Window-eyes. Specifically, I can use NVDA on
websites where I cannot use Window-eyes.
Similarly, I can do things with Apple IOS and VoiceOver which simply don't
seem to work with Windows based screen readers. I have used Window-eyes
since Windows 95 came out in 1995. However, what I want a computer to do
is be useful.
Increasingly, I simply cannot stay loyal to Window-eyes when other screen
readers and other operating systems do tasks better and are stable.
What is with the speech going silent so much? I have to re-boot way way
too much!!
Also I have to use screen redraw more and more with each new version of
Window-eyes or I cannot use the arrow keys to read what I have written in
emails.
And please make the mouse simulation keys work. They worked in the
nineties with Windows 95, 2000 and XP. Now they don't work with FireFox at
all. What givbes?
Things get worse with Window-eyes over the years. I am so sorry to write
this.

because one has to close and restart the program frequently-a big

that's my idea. I don't know if selecting text relies on the way WE

other major screenreaders do it.

Re: Seeking Your Input

2015-05-28 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
Hi,
It would be nice to see an improvement to the Insert key layout app
that allows it to work properly with auto forms mode interaction on
web pages.
Right now, in order for it to behave properly with keyboard input on
web pages, control slash must be used to turn off auto forms
interaction.
While I certainly am glad to have a choice to use auto forms mode
interaction or not,
That would be nice to see resolved so that auto forms interaction
could be left on with either the default layout or insert key layout
respectively.
Right now, as indicated above, the insert key layout app as far as
keyboard input is concerned does not work properly so long as auto
form focus is enabled while using browse mode, but works correctly if
currently turned off.
Thanks Geremy for your feedback request.
I personally don't know of any other areas in which I use Window-Eyes
that I'd like to see improvement in,beyond the one I have now brought
to your attention.
Thank you for letting me provide my feedback, and I hope this helps
you behind the seens.
If there is some other way I may be of service, feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,

Keith

2015-05-28 Thread Michael Massey via Talk
I would like to see o c r capability because it is incorporated into other
screen readers. I would also like to have the ability to be able to have
the keyboard be able to interact with buttons that require a mouseclick on
such sites as Walmart.com or amazon.com payment sites. I would like
Window-eyes to be better at detecting error reports. What I mean by that is
that occasionally Window-eyes generates an error report causing the need to
shut down and reboot the computer. After the computer is rebooted, the
error report can't be found in the help section. If Window-eyes generated an
error report, why is it that sometimes an error report is not found after a
reboot?

RE: Seeking Your Input

2015-05-28 Thread Andre via Talk
Hi Jeremy,

I echo Ray's statements below. I'll add one more web site or component and
that's instant teleseminar, and go to webinar. So much is done these days
using these tools, and it's just not accessible as far as the interaction
with the host. So we can't enter questions to ask, or interact via chat
features, or read the info the host posts such as a simple web link.

The ocr feature is definitely necessary for captcha in ie, and other
clickable images. Webvisum is only for firefox and there needs to be a
reliable ocr feature for IE and FF that's not dependent on a third party
tool. Any time our work productivity depends on a third party rather than
remaining mostly in our own control, that hampers our own work performance.

I'd like notification when a web page has been updated. So based on in page
links or some part of a form that requires user input, after that data has
been entered, I'd like verbal notification of what has changed on that web
page. Right now, it seems like we have to scroll back up the page to find
out what if anything has changed.

Thanks for listening.

CakeTalking is a Jaws script package. So there's no way Window-Eyes can
support it. It's an enormous undertaking that would have to be done
from scratch with Window-Eyes, just as with any other screen-reader.

Re: Seeking Your Input

2015-05-28 Thread Ray Campbell via Talk
Several thoughts. First, I agree, let’s go back to the standard way of
selecting and copying text from web pages. Second, one thing Window-Eyes does
that no other screen reader to my knowledge does is allow you to hit a hot key
and bring it back up when it stops talking.

One thing I’d love for WE to do that would separate it from the pack is to be
able to run when you’re installing or upgrading Windows. I don’t think any
screen reader does that.

Re: Seeking Your Input

2015-05-28 Thread Dave via Talk

Hello Jeremy,

My top three items?

Number one would be to make Win eyes Reliable. If Win Eyes stops,
and the Speech is gone, I am Stuck. I don't know if Win eyes is the
cause, or if the program I was using at the time blew up and took
down Win Eyes too, or if Something lurking in the Operating System
raised its ugly head and took down everything.

So, knowing there are other reasons for a system suddenly stopping,
and going quiet, at least make Win Eyes the last program suspected of
causing a problem.

Number Two would be solid support of MS Office, MS Word, Excel, Power
point, and I wish I wish I wish, some kind of support for Access, or
some other Database.

And my Number Three would be to have solid Support for Browsing the
Internet.Don't really care which Browser is chosen to make the
most Accessible, but being able to get On Line and to Navigate the
typical Web Page is very important. And since the Web is always
changing, and new methods of creating Pages, and displaying
information always changes, sometimes very rapidly, trying to keep up
with what is changing on the Web might be near impossible. So, do
the best you can for accessing the Web.

As a guy that worked for over 20 years at a Software Company, I found
that Window Eyes kept me Employed. It opened up doors for me that
otherwise would never have opened.

I do Stress the importance of Reliability over adding new
features. Of course, some features are required to have a
competitive Screen Reader. But, would rather have reliability than
some new tricky feature that someone comes up with that only a few
might benefit, but because resources were put on creating and adding
that extra feature, not enough attention was given to keeping Window
Eyes a Solid Reliable Work Horse.

Similarly, I can do things with Apple IOS and VoiceOver which simply

Window-eyes since Windows 95 came out in 1995. However, what I want
a computer to do is be useful.
Increasingly, I simply cannot stay loyal to Window-eyes when other
screen readers and other operating systems do tasks better and are stable.
What is with the speech going silent so much? I have to re-boot way
way too much!!
Also I have to use screen redraw more and more with each new
version of Window-eyes or I cannot use the arrow keys to read what I
have written in emails.
And please make the mouse simulation keys work. They worked in the
nineties with Windows 95, 2000 and XP. Now they don't work with

Things get worse with Window-eyes over the years. I am so sorry to write this.

Many web pages have dynamic content, and what is displayed can change as you
move your cursor or read-to-end does it. This can lead to situations where a
heading that once existed has been replaced by something else while you were
reading. You may need to go back to the top, search for some text, or use
some other strategy to get back to that place.

Subject: Shift-H

I have had this problem in prior versions of WE, IE Windows, where
sometimes, shift-h does not bring me back to the previous heading. H always
works, but not shift-h. I tried maximizing the window but that didn’t solve
the problem. Are there any other solutions?

Re: Weather Forecast site

2015-05-28 Thread Alan J Paganelli via Talk
The first time I had ever heard of it, I did the same thing with the same
results. Lucky for me my sighted wife happened by and said what are you
cussing about. I told her. Oh here's your problem, it's spelled with a U!
I can't say here what I said to her! grin

Thanks for the responses. I thought Wonder was spelled with an o, not a
u. My bad.
